Keep us posted! I hope you see things regulate, too. My bleeding for even *just* 10 days is a major PITA, so I feel for you.

Estrogen is the one I've always heard, which would explain why my estrogen-dominant self would notice such a positive effect on my cycles as my relative level of estrogen is decreased. Maybe that makes sense that less estrogen in your system would lead to heavier flow -- taking estrogen-based BCPs or other hormonal…

Check out KHS...they have an entry-level fatty with decent components for about a grand. right now you could snag one for cheaper as places clearance them out. Or even look for used. We bought my Salsa Mukluk 3 used for a grand and it already has great components.

That's not my personal recommendation, that's pretty much standard across the board from the medical community. 1200 for adult women of any size, 1800 for men. Regardless of height, a person's organs and bodily functions still require a bare minimum # of calories.

To be fair, if the vast majority of what you "gained" was water and you didn't actually ingest 28,000 calories, you'll probably not have lost much time/loss at all once it clears out. I'm still holding onto 4 extra #s a week later, but I'm also dealing with TOM/AF issues at the same time and waking covered in bed…

Yeah, I'm thinking I need to pick that up, though what I have seen has me under the assumption that he's mainly writing for lifters and less for aerobic/endurance athletes. I'd love to see what others have experienced applying CKD to training for running and cycling races.

Another way to get more fat is to look for greek yogurt made with whole milk. It can be tricky, since SO many of them are still low or nonfat. Greek Gods has a really good whole milk one. Walnuts are also a good fatty snack, as are pork rinds. I am in love with a chili lime pork rind our local grocery chain carries -- 0…

I've got prescription sunglasses. I have too many allergies and too severe an astigmatism on my left eye to do contacts...gotta wear sunglasses for on my bike as eye protection and even while running they work well to keep wind from irritating my eyes.

I'm definitely not good about drinking enough. When I do I feel like all I do is run to pee every 20 min. I have a ton of type 1 friends (I ride and fundraise for the JDRF), so I should see if one of them would lend me a spare BG meter for curiosity's sake.

It's not exercise-related. It's a standing from a seated position thing. My BP has always been low, but particularly so when my calories are under 1500 net and I'm losing weight at an acceptable rate. 1200 is the absolute lowest I can go before I find myself grabbing chair arms and walls. Hyperglycemia is high blood sugar.…

Too few calories can definitely exacerbate low BP -- I know this due to my own low BP episodes. If I don't eat enough I'll see stars.

We don't know enough to know IF her calorie level could have led to the fainting episode, but everyone's quick to jump all over the EMS workers for what they may/may not have done wrong in the situation. No one is looking at the potential role the OP played in the scenario. SOME people can fast...and I imagine the ability…

The fact that people CAN do anything doesn't make it necessarily safe or healthy. There are people who have lost weight eating only McDonald's (google it) for a solid month, but that doesn't mean it's a wise idea.

In looking at the OP's log I have to wonder if the passing-out could have been due in large part to simply not eating enough calories. There are an awful lot of days in the past couple of weeks where she ate only ~800 calories. Most nutritionists will agree that an adult woman of any size or activity level requires a…

I've long wondered about this and CKD (I just don't know any runners/cyclists who do this, which makes it tough to bounce ideas and experience off of anyone. It seems like much more of a weights/HIIT/Crossfitter deal). Kinda thinking this is the year I should give those a whirl. Once I hit peak Summer training I'm…

Hmmm...these are all pretty solidly aerobic efforts, though. I read the Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance a while back and know there's at least one Western States 100 winner who is a low-carber...but these are still aerobic athletes. For races like 5k, short distance bike time trials, and cyclocross it…

DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness. So for those who never plan "cheats," do you do any sort of higher-intensity aerobic activities? ie running races of half-marathon distance or shorter, 5ks, cyclocross, etc. By racing, I mean not just showing up for a participation medal and run/walking, but all-out effort for the…

Yeah...I recall someone explaining that for every gram of carbs the body requires 3 grams of water to process. Whether that's the exact "formula," I don't know...but there sure does seem to be some "weight" to that explanation. I've been so prone to edema since my pregnancy with my 14 year old, so low-carb was a pleasant…

Breast tissue isn't all adipose or we'd not be classified as mammals. My boobs are very dense and cyst-prone, so weight gain/loss has never had much bearing on them (they're definitely the last place I lose). Years ago I lost a bunch of weight and ended up a 34DDD (at my largest I was a 40H-I while nursing...shrunk to a…

My mom (and several of my friends) are convinced that my diet is unhealthy because it has no bread/grains. Meanwhile I am eating 4-6 servings of veggies EVERY day, ample protein to fuel my workouts and maintain my muscles, and eat almost no pre-packaged/processed/convenience foods. My mom is concerned that I'm missing out…

I got these BAD when I was a high school track runner. No one else I knew had pain like this. It's not like a side ache/stitch or gas pains (I've had those, too...this is a different beast, entirely). At age 30 I had my tubes tied post-kid and was diagnosed with endometriosis at the same time (there was suspicion of endo…

Look at the offerings from Velocity and Rolf. I have a Seven Mudhoney that I'll be using for both road and CX/gravel with wheels I can easily swap on/off depending upon where I'm planning to ride. The Rolf Vigor Alpha will be mounted with slicks for the road and the Velocity Aileron with CX tires. I LOVES me my disc…

I've done egg drop soup (essentially chicken in broth and I stir in scrambled egg while it's boiling)...extra ginger added really helps settle the gut. And diet ginger ale.

Never fear, the bacteria that makes yogurt yogurt...feeds off of milk sugars (lactose -- which is why lactose-intolerant folks like me can eat relatively large quantities of the stuff without any issue. Same with cheese). I generally assume about half (at least) of the carbs in yogurt are eliminated. Especially with REAL,…

+1...I add some sugar-free sweetener and a tiny bit of vanilla extract to mine. It tastes almost like cheesecake!

I always lose without trying when I'm riding a lot. I'm out there too long and having too much fun to have time to eat much. But I'm not on a boring-as-sin nowhere bike indoors, either. I can't tolerate that for much more than an hour. You can burn crazy calories doing The Sufferfest workouts indoors. They're really…

This. And there is nothing like a run to give me thinking time away from the distractions of computer, phone, kid, chores that need doing, etc. Even if I'm listening to music I get a nice block of time to just mull stuff over. I can't do that on the bike, since I have to be so much more aware of my surroundings and road…

For years I would try to start running, but it always sucked. When I started C25k nearly 9 years ago I had an epiphany -- the first 2 miles ALWAYS suck. Why did none of the runners in my life tell me that?! I never would have spent my 20s fat if I'd had that knowledge on my first try and had a goal of getting past the…

Not quite, but I'd like to see your studies... If you don't like running, don't run. I don't like indoor workouts, so I avoid them as much as possible. I don't like garbanzo beans, so I don't eat them. Find something you do like and do the heck out of it!

This guy does cyclocross. No one really has a place to say that they are too big to be a BAMF. Believing that one is too heavy to do...whatever simply prevents us from ever changing that status. It doesn't allow us to exit our comfort zones. I'm asthmatic. Some asthmatics refuse to be active at all...in spite of the fact…
