Find a legitimate specialty running store and have them watch you run on a treadmill. They will help match you with the right type of shoe, then will bring you various models of similar shoes to try so that you can select which ones are most comfortable on your foot.

Here's a perfect illustration of why the same woman with the same body fat percentage is likely to be healthier at the heavier weight: http://www.leighpeele.com/body-fat-pictures-and-percentages (scroll to the bottom) Even at relatively high body fat a lot of us have blood work that tells a different story than our…

Have you been fitted for proper running shoes for C25k?
-
Yup. My MIL's fiance is a healthy, thin, VERY active type 2 diabetic. Diagnosed only in the last few years.

Is the pain soft tissue or deeper? Could a stress fracture be a possibility?

Another thing to keep in mind with these scales is that they depend upon a person having ideal hydration and not being used immediately after a workout and consistently used under similar conditions. A lot of people don't use them as instructed...so even the best electronic impedance device can read way off.

The best measure, but a PITA and relatively $$ is a water displacement test in a lab. I know very few people who have gone to the trouble. The calipers are good, assuming the person doing the measurements is using the calipers correctly.

[/quote] No...a 5' 120# woman with 31% bodyfat has the same *percentage* (note, we're not talking about the difference in actual weight) of bodyfat as a 5' 130# woman with 31% bodyfat. Her BMI is what has changed, not her percentage of body fat relative to her weight. 31% is 31%...regardless of age, weight, gender, height,…

BMI ≠ body fat. Read what you said above. You claimed above that the same woman with the SAME bodyfat % was healthy at one weight, but not another. If she is heavier, but is also carrying more muscle (which would explain higher weight and same BF %), then she will only appear "overweight" based upon BMI (which could in…
-
Wait, what...? A percent is a percent. Assuming that the # is correct (with any testing method), 31% is on the high end of healthy for any woman, regardless of height or weight. If a woman of a given height loses weight but her BF remains stable, then she has lost equal amounts of fat and muscle and water. If she loses…

Is there an athlete setting on your scale? The one we have has that setting for a person who typically works out for 10 hours+/week. These scales tend not to be perfectly accurate, but that sounds way off. Ours always shows a reasonable figure and the relative changes seem spot-on. I'm built a lot like you (same bra size,…

Try a different med. I LOATHED Advair...I had every nasty side-effect. Switched to Qvar and it makes a huge difference. I really recommend a steroid in MDI packaging that allows use of a spacer device. More of the med will get into your lungs, that way. Same with use of a rescue Albuterol inhaler.

You have heavenly weather for running in the rain. No special clothing needed, simply avoid cotton.

Oh, I loves me a pig roast!!!

This. Well, except for the running. Cannot wait to get this blasted cast off on 1/4 so that I can run, again. As soon as my wrist and hand are strong enough I will be biking, too, even if only on the trainer for a while.

I have been lactose intolerant for probably close to a decade. I can eat cheese and yogurt, since they are cultured and the bacteria eats the lactose. I'm OK for a reasonable serving of ice cream, too. But a glass of milk...nope.

And 26 gels?! Ewwww....

I think certain kinds of racing lend themselves to keto very well, at least from what I read (haven't been able to put anything into practice with the bum arm)...marathons+, endurance cycling, etc. I expect that I will end up doing more of a CKD sort of diet depending upon race goals. Cyclocross will almost certainly not…

I have to remind myself that the water increases typically precede a loss...in the past week I gained 2, lost 2...and then another 2. For 3-4 days I was stressin'. :embarassed:

This. Also, that is a cunning hat!

I'd say that anything I drink feels about 50% stronger, at least. And wines that never gave me hangovers before pretty much all do.

THIS is SO true!

I should pick up that book. Years ago I really liked the pro-LC editorial he wrote.

Where in Scotland? My DH spent 11 months in Aberdeen during his 3rd year of college. Amazing place!

Heh, go look at my pics. Broke my right wrist last week...

Interesting stuff. I am really curious about how to handle anaerobic efforts, like cyclocross races and mountain biking with uphills at high effort. I suspect that I may be doing the ketogenic diet more for base building than race season.

Thanks for setting this up, SKA! Heh, so 5 days prior to starting LC/keto I busted my right wrist (typing sucks!) mountain biking, so until I get my cast on Fri there has been no exercise (making me crazy, but I am really uncomfortable in a bulky splint). Planning to resume running ASAP and will join a little local gym for…

My mother was a sen. I was a son. My first name is Kirsten. My siblings also have Scandinavian names and we don't tan. We have a cat named Thor and another named Erik...the Red (though we quickly changed that to "the Rude," because he's a brat). Uff da! :drinker:

I stumbled across that site and thought it looked interesting. I should bookmark. The same friend who recommended the book mentioned superstarch. Gonna have to research that more.
