Absolutely. On my 416th days of tracking and I'm down 24 pounds so far with MFP and increased exercise. (I'm intentionally losing slowly, 1/2 lb/week.)

I want to second all the things that sparklefrogz says above- especially about measuring yourself against your own yardstick! I used to feel worthless because I couldn't do what I thought of as "real exercise"- running, heavy weightlifting, kickboxing. But I'm gradually learning that any kind of movement counts, especially…

Ohhh, this looks /delicious/. Thanks for the recipe!

I absolutely love reading everyone's NSVs on here- I particularly love seeing how they're all so different! Keep it up, everyone! My NSV is that I was able to do five push-ups from my knees last night. A few months ago I could barely dip down a few inches and come back up.

1) 32 2) 5'9" 3) Started at 230, now at 206 4) Exercise on average 4 days a week, 30 mins/ day. Usually I do two days of cardio (uphill walking) and two days of pilates, yoga, or light weightlifting. 5) 1930 6) Tips: start with small changes, then build on your success. Be patient, kind, but extremely persistent with…

Love John Oliver, love this.

A) What equipment do you use? Currently: Incline walking treadmill, exercise mat, light dumbbells; may get a kettlebell and resistance bands in future B) Do you use any dvds, insanity, 30 day challenges etc? Yes, most of my routines come from Fitness Blender (via youtube or FitnessBlender.com) C) How heavy do you lift if…

Chris Hadfield! Astronaut and all-around awesome guy. Plus he has a great Dad moustache.

Jumping in because I'm really interested in trying this too! I love dried fruits and I'd like to try making my own lower-sodium jerky if I can. (And I didn't even think of kale chips- that would be great!) What are folks' experiences with the beginner models? I've been browsing around and the Nesco Harvest 400 seems to…

Like many others here, I have some foods that I just don't keep in the house anymore- the effort of not eating them is too much for me to handle (I am looking at you, potato chips). When I do decide to treat myself to them, I go out and buy a single serving. That might be a viable option for you. I also really agree with…

Mine is SUPER similar. I, too, wait to record losses, just because I know recording increases bums me out and isn't reflective of what's happening or helpful to my mindset- though of course, YMMV. I also heard a great point made on here months ago- if you're a woman, monthly hormonal changes related to your menstrual cycle…

All the responses here are like sliding into a sweet bubble bath of pure win. Ahhhhhhhhh.

YES WALKING. Walking, walking, walking! One of my favorite things to do. And I want to also second bah_bug's great suggestion of finding things to do with your hands if you're at all inclined! I learned how to crochet and knit a few years ago, and it helps so much on a bunch of levels- it keeps my hands busy so I'm not…

It's good to see so many folks here providing support and tips. I'm going to chime in with a few things I've found helpful too: * First of all, take the best care of yourself that you can. See your doctor and your therapist as often as you need to. Making a big lifestyle change like we're doing takes a lot of mental…

I have had exactly the same problem when I have gaps in my SSRI supply (plus, you know, horrible crippling depression). /Please/ don't go cold turkey off these drugs, you really need to taper them so your body can gradually pick up its own production of serotonin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSRI_discontinuation_syndrome…

Gonna second everyone here saying that you need to look very carefully at the source of your information. Any schmuck can set up a website; look for information from reputable government organizations, universities, or peer-reviewed journals. A good rule of thumb is to ignore anyone who says something too extreme ("never…

Vanilla yogurt for my afternoon snack. Nice and soothing for my grumpy tummy.

Leftover pizza at work. I'd just finished lunch, but it was free and god, that delicious smell...I had one and a half pieces. They were succulent, but my stomach and areas south informed me within about ten minutes that I was in deep trouble. Would not repeat.

These are my favorite threads. Very favorite. My NSV is that yesterday I hit 365 consecutive days of logging on MFP! And I logged on every one of those days (with the exception of 13 days off after an appendectomy). 22 pounds down about 40 to go!

Pilates! That is an excellent idea- thank you!

Yes, this is just what I needed- feeling a little glum after an apparent weight gain (I'm sure it's just a blip, but still). I went to the bargain store this weekend and found two cute pairs of shorts for less than $15. And when I tried on the one marked 40-in waist, it was almost too big! WOOT! Keep 'em coming, everyone-…

Bump! I've just started using tofu- usually I buy firm or extra firm, then crumble it into a pan and treat it like ground meat. I've got a sensitive stomach, though, and I've found that I can have a bad reaction to it- does anyone else deal with this? How do you get around it? I've been trying to pair it with rice in…

That is absolutely fabulous! Congratulations to you!

Thirded! I would also add: a big change is made up of many small changes put together. Make small changes that you can live with for a long time; then, once you've mastered them, make more small changes. They all start to build up!

Logging daily, no matter what. Making small changes that I could maintain long term. Using slip-ups and mistakes as an opportunity to learn, instead of a reason to beat myself up. Finding exercise that I enjoyed doing (it was out there! I was amazed!) Patience and persistence. Make it easy for yourself to succeed.

First off: this is all purely anecdotal, so take with a grain of salt. (Or a tablespoon of creamer, if you'd like.) I find I do best when I stick to one cup of coffee and one serving (12 oz) of diet soda daily; however, I personally think it has to do more with the fact that I drink more water that way. And when I drink…

Instant oatmeal (Market Pantry Apple Cinnamon reduced sugar), one of those little snack boxes of dried cranberries (1 oz), about 1 cup of coffee with 1.5 tablespoons of flavored creamer. I'm thinking I'll make baked oatmeal muffins later this week though. Mmm...oatmeal. ::om nom nom nyom::

Weirdly enough, I have the opposite problem- I have a little too much potassium in my blood (due to both a kidney transplant and medications I'm on). High-potassium foods include tomatoes, potatoes, beans, yogurt, bananas, dark leafy greens, dried fruits, most citrus fruits and juices, avocados, and pretty much all nuts,…

An automobile tire! Sweet.

Just want to second these! I love to cook, and I started to buy a lot more low-salt and no salt added ingredients, just so I had more control over the sodium content. Fortunately there are a lot of good options available that can be easily substituted in. And you can add salt at the table if your food needs it, but if…
