That is an excellent point, thank you! Related: I try to track my intake very closely, but it is quite possible that as I progressed with my weight loss I became somewhat sloppy. In addition, I tend to keep a low deficit (~250 calories) which also makes poor tracking a more likely culprit in failing to lose, right? I have…

Saltines and flat Coke- also takeout matzoh ball soup or ramen from the cupboard. Soothing and easy to digest. Once my stomach's recovered a little, I try to introduce some yogurt in fairly soon; it makes my system re-balance itself a little more quickly. Mmm...probiotics. With cherry jam!

Yes! What has worked for me is *making sure I'm managing my depression as effectively as possible (meds, dr's appts, regular mild exercise I enjoy, light therapy in the winter), *trying not to blame myself for the inevitable setbacks, *trying to recognize when I'm using food to deal with feelings and caring for myself in…

I've got a kidney transplant (16 years! Whoo!), and while looking into best care for it, I found out that transplant recipients are at a much higher risk for cardiovascular disease than the rest of the population. So I decided to start changing my lifestyle a little to see if I could reduce some of my risk factors. Also-…

5' 10" here, big frame. I'm shooting for 170-175 eventually- currently at about 200, down from 230. I'm going /very/ slowly though, due to both health issues and my personal preferences, and I'm flexible about the final goal- I'm going to see what I can easily maintain within 10 pounds above or below that. Does anyone else…

Ah, this is a really good question! I could write a whole screed on it. I think in my case being fat-positive or body-positive and weighing less than I once did makes me that much more determined to speak out and stand up against gross fat-phobic ideas. Because honestly, body-positivity is what made me feel happy and…

Once a week, maybe twice if we count snacks or sodas or fancy coffee drinks. I feel lucky that I (a) enjoy cooking and (b) have the time to do it. I know things will probably get trickier when I got back to school part-time.

Absolutely not. Negative comments about my weight just did more to convince me that my body wasn't worth caring about. It wasn't until people said to me "hey, you can be a beautiful sexy worthwhile person no matter what your BMI is" that I had the confidence to interact with my body instead of trying to forget I was in it.

I just want to second the hell out of this. Giving myself permission to love and enjoy food- ALL food- has been (I think) the major factor in maintaining my lifestyle changes. (Well, that and portion control, reducing binge triggers at home...it's all connected.) 569 days straight on MFP and counting!

I've never worn tight-fitting pants because I've always felt too self-conscious and unhappy with my body in them. Got a pair of yoga pants this weekend. Size L instead of XL, and they fit and look GREAT. Hello, butt.

These are my favorite threads! I'm realizing that pretty much all my work pants are becoming way too big- including the smaller-sized pair I'd bought recently. Which is awesome, but also frustrating, because now I need to buy more!

I'm planning on going on maintenance for a week or two during the Christmas break. Will still exercise and log, but going to ease up for a set period so I/my body can rest and reset. For other days, I'll try to stay within range. I've had good luck taking small servings (half or quarter portions) of foods I want to try at…

Soup, delicious soup. I love soup. Boil broth, add veggie of choice (I like peas, but green beans/frozen kale or spinach/really anything will work), then crack two eggs in the hot broth and stir around until cooked. Om nom nom.

I'm thinking about this myself...Right now my initial goal is to get to 175, which would place me just barely into the "Overweight" category for BMI. In order to get there, I'll have to lose another 28 pounds. Once I'm at 175, though, my plan is to hold at maintenance for 4-6 months, then reassess to see how I'm feeling…

Oh man, I completely feel you. I have definitely had days where I get through the door and go "everything I can reach is going into my mouth RIGHT NOW". There are a couple of tricks I've found that help me out, though. I keep pre-measured snacks in my drawer at work (granola bars, 100 calorie cracker packs, mini bags of…

No, you are very much in the right there! High potassium is one of the many, many things folks on dialysis have to watch out for, along with stuff like high sodium, high phosphorus, low calcium, low protein...the dialysis diet is very complex, as I'm sure you know! But (a) food requirements change based on individual…

First off, I am not a doctor...but I am on meds for hypertension related to a kidney transplant. So I understand and cheer on your urge to protect your kidneys! Go, kidneys! The Merck Manual (http://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/cardiovascular_disorders/hypertension/overview_of_hypertension.html), which I've found to…

5'10", 205. Wearing (usually) size L tops, size 16 bottoms. Most of my weight is in my midsection, which makes it hard to find pants that fit well.

5.6 pounds away. I've been kicking around between 206 and 204 for the last two months, but I adjusted my net calorie goal down a little this week- I'm hoping it'll have an effect! And I started last May at 230. Been going slow and steady.

Depression runs in my family, so it's not that surprising in retrospect that I started having symptoms as a young teenager. Fortunately my illness is mostly managed these days (fingers crossed). I take Paxil daily, and I've been in regular therapy over the years; I'm not going regularly now, but I have my therapists'…

Oh my goodness, this is absolutely wonderful. Congratulations on your transplant- welcome to the club! :D It's great to see your smiling face again!

Just over here clapping, cheering, waving my hands in the air. I am a huge fan of the way you approach weight loss and maintenance, and your example continues to help me as I keep working towards my goals. Thank you!

One thing you can do is say how impressed you are with the work and dedication he's put in. Because that's true, right? This is a hard thing to do! There are other things you can talk about too- has his energy level increased? Does he seem happier or more relaxed? As far as body image goes, I think you just need to be…

I got an Orioles shirt at the store last week and decided to take a flyer on buying a large, instead of an extra large. I wore it for the first time today- it looks GREAT and I feel awesome in it. :D

Fabulous, thank you so much! :D I have been thinking about You Are Your Own Gym- I will definitely look into it now!

FIRST: I am not a doctor, and you should run any plans by your doc first. That said, I'd recommend setting your calories to maintenance or slightly above while you're recovering- at least for the first few weeks. Our bodies consume extra energy while they're healing! It's better to take 4-6 weeks now to allow yourself time…

I have always- /always/- had to squeeze to close the waistband of my pants. Now I have a few pairs that will slide way down on my hips if I'm not careful. What is this strange new feeling of having to pull /up/ my pants?! What is this "needing a belt"? :D

I went over goal a few days last week and really beat myself up about it, but kept pushing through. Today I checked my diary and I was less than 300 calories over goal last week. See, brain? It wasn't that bad!

From what I've picked up, yeah- lotion, water, and tending towards slower weight loss will tend to reduce skin sagging. And I've heard from folks on here that skin recovers slowly; it might take a few extra years for your skin to catch up with your weight change, but it should gradually improve. (Especially since you're…

I came down here to post this exact same thing!! Great book with a great author- I found it a fascinating read.
