Learning how to not be codependent is as simple as recognizing codependent thoughts and behaviors and stopping them. You should talk to your partner about this, because he might be able to give you feedback and / or reestablish and maintain more healthy boundaries. You should also try to find a workbook or something on the…

In San Diego, CA, at least, there is a pretty good chance of men being taken seriously when they come into the courts and file DV restraining orders. And the kids DO get put on those orders, so the fathers have 100% physical custody until the moms come to the court and file to get a custody order. Men should absolutely be…

Wow! You seem really angry, and not abusive AT ALL. Hope that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy works out for you. They use that on borderlines, right?

It sounds like you're being a supportive friend, and he's at least opening up to you about it, which is great. Just keep talking to him, maybe by bringing up more about your story to him... see what advice and support he gives you, and maybe it'll click with him... I wish there were more resources out there geared towards…

I worked in a DV clinic interviewing victims to help them write up their declarations to the judge for restraining orders. I think there is a lot more DV against men than is reported. A few things I noticed. Men in physically abusive relationships tended to stay, downplay the violence, and put up with it because they were…

Word of warning. Expect your moods and depression to get worse when you stop binging, and have a STRONG support network and strategies for developing your coping skills in place before you do so. Binge eating is a coping strategy, like alcohol, or drugs, or any addiction. The underlying cause is psychological distress. You…

No easy solution for flat abs. They just aren't as easy to achieve as infomercials would have you believe. Low body fat (lower than average or normal levels if you tend to store fat in your abdomen)+ no bloating (strict diet) + enough abdominal strengthening to make the muscles taught.

Juice. Milk. Broth. Meal replacement shakes.

I run. Or hit things. I mean... I workout. I used to binge on sugar, but I've broken that habit in the past few months. I'm trying to find other coping strategies. It's difficult.

Awesome! Backpacker here. Only one question: where are the grand canyon pics?

1) Easy to learn (remember handball in grade school?) 2) Awesome cardio (running, pivoting, jumping, explosive movements). To get the best workout, either practice by yourself or play with 1 partner. Teams for racquetball is sort of cheating.

Run longer slower. Get crackin on those pullups. I've done one, and they are super fun. People off all fitness levels complete them, and they are not competitive events. That said, you'll have the most fun if you can breeze through it enjoying yourself. So you should be able to jog the total distance of the course…

Tagliata de Manza, where have you been all my life? Damn, I think I'll have Italian tonight!

If your favorite dish is fettuccini alfredo, fa-get-about-it! If you're getting pasta, the correct portion is about 1 cup. Beware salad dressing and cheese on a starter salad; maybe better to go with a broth based soup like minestrone. Eat a few bites of pasta, a serving of protein, and save some room for cake! Oh yeah,…

I'd change "whatever I want" to "whatever I want within reason." Switch to maintenance mode and stick to moderate potion sizes, and you'll be fine. If you're going to be in CA, then there's loads of healthy restaurant options anywhere you go. Have fun!

I think she looks fit and great. If "too thin" is code for little boobs and narrow hips... I guess I'm "too thin" too. Not all women have an hourglass build, and I'm glad to see someone representin!

Five lbs in a month is actually really good.

Don't hate on Kasey just because she's adorable. My boyfriend and I train together in the boxing gym (where, yes, we do a lot of abs because you have to be able to take a punch there), and he can't make it through her 15 minute ab clips. It's legit.

I think that's medifast. It's like 500 cals a day or something ridiculous, and all the "meals" come in packets in a box.

That's how I started... well... that plus an random Pilipino yelling at me. That's the class, it's not modified for anyone. Even if it's your first day, you just jump in and try to keep up. You'd be surprised at what you can actually do that you think you can't.

We do these as the warmup and cooldown of every class, and sometimes thrown in on breaks. So, 6 days per week, 400-600 crunches, 200-400 pushups, 100-300 squats? Something like that. In sets of 50, 60 or 100.

There is no healthy way to lose 20 lbs in 2 months. You're pushing it if you aim for 2 lbs a week, and 1 lb a week is ideal. What do you need to get to that number for? If you need to make weight for something, you can fake 5 lbs of it by dehydrating yourself for the weigh in. (Don't tell anyone I told you that.)

That looks really good. Now go kill it!

If you're used to running with music, run with music.

You can get a little can of pepper spray (same thing as bear spray) on a lanyard and tuck it into your sports bra. The dog should give you some piece of mind too. Once your dog starts barking, I'd think a bear would be inclined to head in the other direction. Most bears are very docile, and avoid people, but their behavior…

I love blogilates. The burn you're feeling from using your muscles is totally different than "high intensity" cardio. Moreover, the old advice that you should do steady state cardio (should go at a conversational pace etc.) to burn fat, has been totally debunked by all of the studies showing that more intensity burns more…

When I have cut out a lot of carby food (to deal with IBS), I've found myself craving fat. Weird because I have never had or liked much fat in my diet. A high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet is very satiating. You have much less of an appetite, and more stable blood sugar. I never really got over the slump from the…
