I was also curious about whether it would be breaking the fast. Seems there are several camps on this: the "all or nothing" type and those that believe small amounts of calories can be consumed during a fast. Still reading up on it, so for now I'm in the latter camp. The spoonful of coconut oil was recommended in the…

Forgot to mention, if you tend to get super hungry before lunch time, try eating a spoonful of coconut oil in the morning. It works for me. But keep in mind, if you start to feel nauseous or dizzy or some other bad side effect during the fast, then go ahead and eat asap. You don't want to mess with low blood sugar.

The main benefit of intermittent fasting is that it is critical for removing pathogens (like viruses) and waste products from within body cells. Autophagy is a biological process by which the body rids itself of waste at the intercellular level. Autophagy peaks at around 16 hrs of fasting and is greatly suppressed after…

I have started eating PHD, and I can say that it is the first "diet" that I actually love. I love the way real food tastes (rich and yummy), I love the way my house smells every night when I cook real food, and I LOVE the way I feel now. Yes, popcorn smells good. But steak cooked with butter and rosemary mixed with the…

I have a tiny success story (but HUGE to me) after just a few days of doing Primal: Normally, after I eat on a SAD meal, my heart skips beats, races, and I get palpitations that take my breath away. It is particularly bad after a highly processed meal. Even though I'm used to it, it is still kind of scary. I just started…

I just straight up fell off the wagon. One minute I was doing great with Primal and the next minute I was stuffing a brownie in my mouth like I had never eaten before in my life. It happened that quickly. Then the brownie led to a slice of pizza the next day, which led to a cheeseburger... It was so out of control and kind…

Shelled hemp seeds taste very grain-like and are best eaten raw (i.e. no cooking). They are nice and soft but still crunchy when they are raw. I do eat them and they are quite tasty. I use it to add a slight crunchy, grain consistency. good for coating things. just don't cook them at high heat. BUT they are pretty high in…

Wow, JUST the inspiration I needed today. 20 lbs made a huge difference!

I'd say "no" if your goal is being skinny. I'd say "yes" if your goal is being healthy. Often, the two come in the same package, but not always. I've been skinny (like really skinny: 130 pds @ 5'10") and people treated me so much better better than they do when I am fat. I was more successful professionally. But I wasn't…

Nice to meet you. I think alot of us struggle with this. We have this image of what we once looked like, and think happiness cannot be achieved until we reach that weight again. But let me tell you, if you don't love yourself at this weight, there is a chance that you will continue finding things to be unhappy about at…

Hi Vanessa, Nice to meet you. I think alot of us struggle with this. We start eating good for a few days and then we get off track and end up having to start all over again a couple of months later. Here is what is working for me: start slow! For the next 3 weeks, your only goal will be to track your food. It doesn't…

"Will power and self discipline", as people typically use these terms, are merely healthy habits learned through training. It isn't some mystical power some people possess and other, weaker, people lack. Ok, lifting a car off a child might be an act of will power rather than habit. I am incorrect in saying no one has will…
-
I don't believe it is about self control. NO ONE has will power. Successful people are just people with healthy habits. Someone else mentioned that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. I 100% agree with them that it is about habit\. I would make you goal simple: track your food for 21 days. Don't worry so much about…

Oh yes, I have dealt with the soul crushing experience of regaining lost weight. I lost nearly 100 pounds around 2003, gained back 60 by 2008, lost 30 by 2011, and gained back 50 by 2012. It is devastating, embarrassing, and discouraging. I have all these clothes from various weights, and before tonight they were all still…

Welcome! And congrats on the new baby!

Hi there! Welcome! I LOVE roller skating. Love, love, love it. Such a great workout too. Actually, better get to bed. I've got roller derby practice in the morning!

Welcome! Nice to meet you! Curvy girls rock!

Yes, yes, yes! This is exactly right. The last few days have been hard. I'm still on my blood sugar roller coaster and am craving sweets (a craving I've given in to). Because my calorie count has been so high, I've thought "maybe I shouldn't track today." But I tracked anyway because the numbers aren't that important…
-
Thanks for your post. I totally understand your "roller coaster" journey. I've come to see my eating behavior as a disease. And kind of like a diabetic has to monitor his blood sugar everyday, I have to track my food intake everyday. I view food tracking as the only effective treatment for this disease (for me anyway). And…

Wow, you look so much younger now! And I think alot of that has to do with the fact that you look so happy in the after. Great job!

Keep going! You doing great! I will keep my prayers out for you!

Oh, and I didn't eat out or have "cheat days" very often (may once every few months). Some people build in cheat days into their week, but I'm beginning to question the wisdom of this. When you have a cheat day, you can easily go overboard and offset your whole week's worth of work. But more importantly, when you "cheat"…

In the past I've had tremendous success cutting out all added sugars and limiting processed foods. The weight melted off so fast my family staged an intervention (I had lost almost 100 pounds). I was eating plenty, just not sugar or processed foods. They thought I was starving myself, but I wasn't. I tried to go back to…

Like watching the clock rewind. You look great!

Excellent job! This was just the motivational story I needed to start my week. Thanks!

Great job! I read somewhere that all carbonated beverages cause calcium to leech from your bones, causing deterioration (particularly in women). So your skeleton is very happy with you!

I will pray for you! I have several people I really care about addicted to various substances (and am not a stranger to it myself), and I've seen how easy it is to relapse. I always say that "I may not be strong, but God is. And through God, I have the strength to stand strong against my addiction." Regardless of your…

Wonderful story. I bet your late wife is cheering you on in heaven. God bless you and your family.
