Yes, yes to the above points. Eat more protein and fat for longer lasting energy. Make sure you're getting enough water, potassium, magnesium, and salt. Salt isn't all that bad if you keep it in ratio with potassium. Your body definitely needs it if you've been working out a lot.

I also had this problem when I tried Atkins. Either it was too much too fast or very low carb isn't my thing. These days I just try really hard to substitute and cut the portions of carbs and focus on the not binging part. Do everything you can think of to keep from binging! Would it work to simplify the diet to include natural and whole foods, with an emphasis on vegetables, and with olive oil as the main source of fat? I don't have a recipe but my first food ideas were ratatouille and vegetable lasagna.

hmmm.. Salad! lots of leafy goodness small amounts of shredded vegetables blender dressing = more leafiness + oil + vinegar or lemon juice + spices (garlic salt and pepper) my low-carb additions aren't vegan: usually egg and cheese.
