  • It's what others have said. The FitBit estimates how many calories you burn just for living. You do burn calories while you are sleeping, so that is why it is showing you that. It's based on the FitBit calculation of your basal metabolic rate (BMR, based on height, weight, age). Of course, you burn more calories when you…
  • I'm more of an afternoon person.
  • If it happened on the job, you may be covered by worker's compensation that will help offset your copay issue. You really need to speak with a doctor about this. http://www.workerscompensation.com
  • Yes, I find that definitely helps. I recently got a Fitbit, and I started getting off one stop before my usual public transit stop, etc. It has definitely made a difference. Although diet is the thing that makes the most difference.
  • Feel free to add me. I log every day.
  • I'm not sure how MFP sets its recommended sugar goals, but when I do research on overall recommended sugar amounts I've seen that the only goal that is set is for added sugar, not naturally occurring sugar. Not really sure how good my research is, but on that basis I ignore any natural sugar and just focus on limiting my…
  • I've had to give up: Alcohol (not a big issue, as I was never much of a drinker anyway) Soda ( a bit harder) Coffee (this was a killer!) But that is because I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's, and those things trigger me. Fortunately, if I avoid those I can eat most things, even raw fruit, vegetables, and whole grains!
  • Brown rice isn't a terrible choice*. It's a good source of insoluble fiber, which we need in addition to soluble fiber and our other nutrients. As long as we are getting enough of the other nutrients, brown rice is a good addition to our diets. It helps "sweep" away the bulk, as any insoluble fiber does. *Unless you have…
  • How accurate is your current calorie counting? Are you sure you're eating only 800-1,000 calories a day? I'm absolutely not saying you are lying, but you may be underestimating. Are you weighing your portions or guesstimating? BBC clip re: underestimating caloric intake. The woman in the clip underreported by 43% when she…
  • I don't do paleo, but I do use some paleo recipes. Often for breakfast I do the following: 1/2 cup almond milk 15 grams of chia seed powder 3 grams of cacao powder 1/2 tbsp of agave nectar 1/2 cup blueberries of 1 cup strawberry halves Mix everything but the fruit together and let stand for at least 10 minutes. Once the…
  • Eggs were a shocker for me too, but in the other direction. I was like "one large egg has only 70 calories? Sweet!"
  • Ooh, also, the first half of Camelot is a great musical. The second half really ruins it.
  • Wow, this is hard for me! I love musicals. I think Gyspy, followed by Guys and Dolls, and then Carousel.
  • I alternate between the Vibram and regular training shoes. I find that the Vibram helps with my balance, as I can really use my toes!
  • First, what others have said re: not ruining your diet plan because of one off day. Second... If you're not used to getting that much fiber every day, do yourself a favor and drink a lot of water today! The average banana has 2.6 grams of dietary fiber, so you just got 18 grams of fiber from the bananas alone.
  • Big time Doctor Who fan! I also love David Tennant and Tom Baker, in that order. My third favorite Doctor was Jon Pertwee, though. Really looking forward to Peter Capaldi taking on the role. Hoping for a Comic Relief sketch where he plays Doctor Who in character as Malcolm Tucker.
  • I'm not a runner, so I can't speak specifically to runner's stomach. But I do have Crohn's Disease, so am v familiar with your GI system going out of whack. So here are a couple of tips for dealing with that: 1. What greypilgrimes says re: it taking time to figure out what foods to avoid. Different things trigger different…
  • Yay Fitbit! Definitely count me in too. Love my Fitbit.
  • Slender Kitchen has a category of healthy slow cooker recipes: http://www.slenderkitchen.com/healthy-crock-pot-recipes/ The few I've made have all been quite good.
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk 3 tbsps of chia seed powder 1 tbsp of cacao powder 1/2 tbsp of agave nectar 1/2 cup of blueberries (or other fruit of your choice) Mix everything together but the blueberries and let stand for 10 minutes. Add blueberries and eat. 213 calories, 10 (!) grams of dietary fiber.
  • It would depend on why they brought it up. If it was, in fact, a contributor to health problems (and this goes for overweight or underweight), then I think doctors should bring it up, but in a non-shaming way. If the person is in otherwise good health, then I don't think it's necessary. IMO, the important thing for the…
  • You say you want support, and I believe that you do. Yet in looking at the pages of comments, more people have been supportive than not. You have only engaged directly with those you believe have not been supportive. I think you should consider why that is, and what dysfunctional patterns you are repeating. I'm not saying…
  • I don't know if anyone else has yet posted this, as I haven't read all the pages of comments. But try reading this book: http://www.amazon.com/Will-Ever-Good-Enough-Narcissistic/dp/1439129436/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375658810&sr=8-1&keywords=will+i+ever+be+good+enough It's called "Will I Ever Be Good Enough: Healing the…
