http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2011309/Broken-bones-depression-lung-disease-Why-skinny-bad-you.html Being underweight carries a greater death risk than being even moderately overweight. Although clearly obesity is the most dangerous.

[/quote] LOL what? I was 95-97 lbs and 12-14% body fat my entire life. I was diagnosed with skin cancer (melanoma) when I was a sophomore in HS. I survived just fine, if not better than most. I have Crohn's disease and well, I survived that too. I have supraventricular tachycardia and postural orthostatic tachycardia…

IKR; A juicy homemade burger with artisan cheese is SO much tastier than fast food. Not to mention healthier.

There is no way to get DHA omega three through a plant based diet. And iron absorption is very different and very much decreased on a plant based diet. So yeah, it is possible for someone to not feel bodily "right."
-
Well the simple reason is being slightly overweight is healthier than being underweight. Being underweight carries the same risk of death as obesity.
-
I know right! She looked gorgeous at either weight tbh. I wish that was true of me too!
-
It's not a subjective matter of whether someone "looks" gaunt to you or not. The bmi chart was developed by medical professionals. Almost no one is healthy when they are underweight by bmi, and she is EXTREMELY underweight by bmi.

First off explore the world of healthy food. Try new fruits that you've never tried before. Buy your produce ripe, luscious and in season. Go to a farmers market; not only will the food taste better, but you'll be more connected with it and excited to eat that produce. Try roasting your veggies (just 400 degrees with salt,…

Did you drink at all? Food never makes me sad, but I often get really depressed after drinking.

Potatoes are less processed and, if you leave the skin on, full of nutrients. Nothing wrong with the whole wheat pasta to mix things up though.

The best thing is to have a device which measures heart rate, distance, speed, and duration. If you don't have such a device, map your ride out on mapmyride.com and keep track of how long the ride took you. Then plug in your stats (height, weight, gender, age) to the calorie calculator. That will give you a pretty dang…

Coconut, quinoa, yams, bananas, blueberries, seeds and seed butter (sunflower seed butter is very good), maple syrup, gluten free oats, hemp-milk, fish, cucumber, eggplant, green beans, zucchini, grapes and grape juice, oranges, strawberries, buckwheat, olive oil, blueberry or strawberry jam, butter is actually ok for most…

Well not directly, however drinking something sweet causes your insulin to spike as your body prepares to process whatever you just consumed. When it turns out the body isn't going actually zero calories/carbohydrates (because it was a diet drink), blood sugar then drops quite low and can cause cravings. If you do struggle…

You're not eating anywhere near enough. 1800 would really be an absolute minimum for you. All of these calculations can be done via online calculators; you don't have to work them out yourself. Just google bmi calculator, tdee calculator, etc.
-
What makes you think it's your natural weight? May I ask what your ethnicity is? In most of Europe 20-25 is what is considered a healthy bmi. While there are people who are healthy at 18.5 it's actually rather rare (and usually involves someone of Asian heritage).

Woah. You just did exactly what you're criticizing her for doing. Obviously that lifestyle works for her (and waaaaaayyyyy before this was an internet sensation, I personally had great success with something similar). Doesn't mean it works for everyone (which is why she shouldn't generalize her diet as the "best"). But you…

At five eight and active there is no way you are going to gain eating what you are eating. You're not even close to what you would need to maintain.
-
For that kind of activity level certainly do not go below 1750. 2000 would be appropriate for recomp by estimations, but you will have to do some trial and error and adjust based on your body. You may very well even need more than 2000 to maintain with that activity level..I frankly think you are underestimating just how…

I have low bp and try to deal with it by eating a lot of salt (usually double the recommended , sometimes more) and drinking a lot of water. This is what my physician and i have worked out for me, I won't necessarily recommend going above like 120% of your daily value until you see the doc though as sodium is harmful to…

Hm. Maybe the Garmin is not calibrated correctly. I would try sticking to your calorie goal, logging everything exactly (food scale! not cups/tablespoons), and then only eating back half your exercise calories (to ensure they are not being overestimated) for a month. If you are still not losing you need to go see a doctor…
-
How long were you eating at that calorie level before?
-
Unless you are extremely obese and are in imminent danger because of this, I would say quitting needs to be your number one health priority. You may gain a few pounds, but you can then continue with your weight loss journey.
-
A deficit will cause you to lose. Period. The estimation may be off if you have some sort of medical problem like PCOS or hypothyroidism. If you weren't losing it was a) your calories were set too high (I doubt this since 1200 is very low again unless you have some medical problem) b) you were underestimating your…

There isn't much I don't like, but I'm glad I don't like: mayo beer (ugghhhh...shudders) And I only like crispy cookies! Melt-in-your mouth crispy cookie deliciousness. I don't understand why anyone would like a chewy cookie. And I can take or leave chips (both corn and potato) and steak. I don't dislike either of those…

THIS. I don't think anyone can say it is or isn't selfish without knowing your financial situation in some detail. If it puts a huge strain on your family finances, then yes it is. If you have money to spare and would be burning it elsewhere, probably not. The fact that you would have to take out a loan does seem…

No one's going to have a great body "for the rest of their life." Old age and its wrinkles+ sags are a reality. Just like handbags, outer beauty doesn't last forever. Not commenting on whether OP should or should not have surgery, just pointing out a reality I feel should be acknowledged.
