Hi Daisy. I started lifting weights in late June 2013. I workout at home, but during my 13 weeks of contest prep last year I was in the gym 3-4 days a week. I lift 3-4 days a week and do minimal cardio right now since I'm trying to gain again. I just started tracking again and I aim for at least 1900 calories though I…

Hey girl, it's good to see you again. Wow, you are looking amazing! I'm trying to get back into a consistent routine but it's been tough. I took measurements today hoping that will get me fired up and accountable. How have you been? What goals are you working on?
-
Back to tracking (after a three month break) and gaining weight. Good luck everyone!
-
^ that is some seriously impressive progress with your body fat level. I'm much better now, thank you. Taking pictures is extremely helpful. Measurements are as well. I'm going to repeat my DEXA scan next September and I can't wait to see how much lean mass I gain.

Grrr...got that stupid stomach virus after Thanksgiving. I lost several pounds from not being able to keep food down. I got it all back, and I'm officially back to gaining. I hate flu season! :(

Awww, thank you ladies. I'm actually 47 now. I turned 47 two weeks before I stepped on stage in May. @betterkimmer, I'll be very happy to keep you updated on the shortcut to size program. I'm starting it on Monday. I'm up to eating 2,500 calories a day and I'm starting to gain weight. I'll provide an update in a few weeks.…

Thank you ladies! @swimmer, since my competition in May I've been pretty unstructured in my workouts, doing three day a week full body workouts. I'm about to start Jim Stoppani's 'shortcut to size' program. :)

I'm happy with my legs and glutes, but I need to add more muscle to my back and arms.
-
I was down to 109 pounds in May. I'm still underwieght for my height and currently fluctuating between 113-115 pounds. I'm 5'7" but with a very small frame. I'd like to be around 120 pounds with about 18% body fat. That's what I'm working toward anyway. :)
-
Joe, I want to add muscle because despite being in the 1st percentile for body fat for both my age and 25 year old women which is really good, I am only in the 25th percentile for lean body mass, which is not good. I need more muscle on my frame, so that's the goal. :)

I was down to about 12% body fat back in May when these pictures were taken. My goal over the next six months will be to put on 4-5 pounds of lean mass. I'll be repeating the DEXA scan in April to see how I did toward that goal.

Starting the bulking process again this winter. I'm currently 16.3% body fat by DEXA scan done earlier this month.

Here's a good article that might lend some balanced input. The support groups here are a good idea as well. There's even a few for ketogenic diet followers which might also be helpful. http://www.modernpaleo.com/principles.html

Gotcha. I've never done a mass gainer. Good luck with your bulk.

What's the name of the disorder where someone has to label all groups of people? :drinker:
-
What exactly is 'bulking protein'? Are you referring to casein?

Wow, it's been a long time since I've updated this. I'll try to catch this thread up. I've started cutting now and decided to enter a NPC competition in a May. I'll be 47 when I step on stage. It's an absolutely crazy thing for me to do at this stage in my life, but one by one, I'm knocking down fears. Being in a bikini…

Hi ladies. I'm sorry I haven't been on here much lately. I continued to bulk until mid February when my coach mentioned an NPC competition in my state this May. After thinking about I decided what the heck. I'm going to enter it. I'm currently cutting. I don't think I have enough muscle yet but I know I have a lot more…

I'll post some of my pics tomorrow but you can see some of my recent ones at the end of this thread. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1088730-female-bulking-advice-needed

I followed the SS program when I began lifting. The book and program are excellent. Read it all the way through and follow it. Don't modify it until you've been lifting for at least a few months. The only thing I'd caution you on, is maintaining good form all the time. There is such an emphasis on increasing your weights…

That sounds like a great plan.

It really sounds like you'd be happier with either a recomp (eating at or just slightly below maintenance) or a clean bulk (300-500 calories a day above maintenance). If you have a hard time gaining weight like I do, you may have to eat more. Regardless, you have to lift heavy 3-4 times a week or your muscles will have no…

Thank you Molly. You are gorgeous! :flowerforyou:

Thank you ladies. I'm working my way back up to 2300 calories a day, and can't wait to see what 3-4 more pounds looks like. :flowerforyou:

Maybe you missed the difference. Let me show you what adding five pounds did to my body. :flowerforyou: 112.5 pounds 117.5 pounds

My story isn’t as impressive as many on here, but here goes. I started lifting in the 3rd week in June after being inactive and quite sedentary for several years. I was what is often called ‘skinny fat,’ that is a normal weight but a lack of lean body mass (muscle). I actually started at 112.5 pounds, and at the beginning…

Omg too funny. Sorry to laugh, but I'm glad you men have to suffer a little too. It's only right.  :drinker:

No. There's a reason humans are classified as omnivores and not herbivores. I prefer grass fed meat, free range poultry and wild caught fish instead of mass produced and farmed meat.

Thank you Sara! :flowerforyou: :smooched:
