Rest day for me but I am here reading along, running vicariously thru you all and laughing hysterically @LoneWolfRunner @Elise4270 - Straight to surgery seems extreme. Hopefully you can manage it with alcohol. ;) @italysharon - I haven't been to Naples. I love Italy though. We spent 2 months there when my oldest was 1 1/2.…

@SonicDeathMonkey80 - way to go! I am positive you really helped make the marathon experience significently better for those two you helped at the end. Great job pacing! @skippygirlsmom - Go Skip! Fun medals too! @italysharon - beautiful pictures! Santorini is on my ever expanding list of places to visit. I've been meaning…

They are trying to do an economic impact report. Essentially they want to be able to quantify how much money their event "makes" for the city of San Diego. They then use this information to either help position themselves into a new city and/or help them stay in good graces with current cities. I.e R'n'R San Diego shuts…

This was me the week leading up to my marathon. I signed up for 3 half marathons! 1 trail at my favorite park and 2 road. 1 of the road HMs I signed up for just because they offered me a bottle of wine at the marathon expo! ;)

I don't race much however I would say that 5Ks are my favorite. Mostly because you get to run fast! I am starting to really love HM. I find that I can run at a relatively comfortable pace for the entirety and still be challanged. I haven't "raced" one in many years though and am looking forward to training and really…

@skippygirlsmom - Happy birthday Skip! I fully support you getting yourself a "birth" day gift as well. Enjoy! DATE ... MILES 5/1 ... 4 5/2 ... 6 5/3 ... 10 5/4 ... 3.5 5/7 ... 5.5 5/9 ... 8 5/10 ... 10 5/11 ... 6 5/12 ... 5 5/13 ... 7 5/14 ... 6 71/150 goal. Almost half way there!

Best of luck to you at Portland. I agree that watching a 5k/10k on the track is exciting. Well actually I love watching all track events (4x400m being my favorite to watch). My background is middle distance (800m/1500m) and I always admire the mental strength it takes to race a 5K/10K on the track! The nutrition part it…

I missed this when Elise posted it. I read his response to his kids school after Boston and was very impressed by it. Though in retrospect the letter was a bit arrogant. Hopefully he did not in fact cheat to get into Boston but ultimately that is his guilt to bear if true. And cheating certainly negates any "life lessons"…

It might be her overall mechanics/form. In HS I always had a bit of a hard time transitioning from soccer to track/XC. Yes you run a lot in soccer however the type of running is different than when you are just purely running. There is good chance that she just needs some time to get her running form back.

05/01 - 4 miles 05/02 - 6 miles 05/03 - 10 miles 05/04 - 3.5 miles 05/05 - REST! I think my marathon took more out of me then I originally thought. I struggled thru 3.5 miles last night. Mentally and physically. Thus I am taking today instead of tomorrow as a rest day.

I have to agree with treacton11 on this. If you are getting bored then perhaps you should stick to trails. Or find a really scenic road marathon and see if that helps. I know that I don't personally do well in flat city courses. I do much better with rolling hills and lots of scenery!

@ohhim - congrats on the great PR! @Wendy1Fl - awesome job! Especially for your first race @SonicDeathMonkey80 - great pictures! Looked like a fun time. 5/1 - 4 miles 5/2 - 6 miles 5/3 - 10 miles 20/150 goal. I overslept and didn't get a chance to run this morning. I will run 6 this evening though since my mom with have my…

@SBRRepeat - oh no! @skippygirlsmom - awesome job for you both! Congrats. 5/1 - 4 miles 5/2 - 6 miles 10/150 goal I did a bunch of stretches and that torturous stick thingy on my calf last night which helped. I will definitely be trying that foam roller video as well tomorrow.

Thanks for this. I think I missed it before. I will definitely try it tomorrow.

I am on the Central Coast in California in Monterey. I grew up here however I just moved back to the area about 2 years ago after living in in San Francisco for 6 years.

@SBRRepeat - take care of the ankle. Hopefully it is short lived.

05/01 - 4 miles 4 done/146 remaining! First run after my marathon last Sunday. Felt ok but my left calf is still super tight thanks to the stupid slopes on the road last weekend! I just need to be very careful on it as it is the same one I pulled last fall. Ugh.

I am going for 150 this month (35 per week with a *bonus* 10 miles in there somewhere. :P)

Marathon today!!!! 3:53:56 Big Sur An extremely hilly and windy course. The hills I was well trained for but the head wind was absolutely brutal! Even the overall winner was 3-4 minutes off his last years time. This was my 2nd marathon ever and my 1st overall. My mom was at the finish line helping hand out medals and the…

@shanaber - yes, taper weeks are tough. Rest day for me as well. @Training2BeFast - I am sure you will do fantastic this weekend! @4leighbee - Ah man. Sorry to hear about the stress fracture. I ran the SD Rock n' Roll Marathon as my 1st (and only, 2nd will be Sunday) marathon but it was 12 years ago and prior to them adding in the 1/2 marathon option. There will be a TON of people and thus plan for more time for everything (bathroom, getting your bib at the expo, the start line, etc). Also, make a clear plan…
