  • Love it!! :)
  • I know... I had 2 surgeries in 2 days.. one was gallbladder, one was some liver/duct-thing they had to clear out. Anyway... I am an emotional mess and hardly able to put 2 straight thoughts together right now. Sorry for the panic. Thanks much. Thanks for this.
  • This is all very good to know-- thanks. My diet "before"-- mostly low carb, went keto in June- had occasional high carb binges that lasted less than 24 hours. Right now food of any kind is so unappetizing. Blech. I am starting to eat a little here and there- so far today I had an egg and I just had some protein pudding…
  • What are "bile salts" and where can I find them?
  • I am so glad your hubby decided to take care of himself. When I had bariatric surgery 18 months ago I begged my husband to go low-carb with me. He agreed--- and he and I lost about 285-290 pounds combined. I lost 135- he lost the rest! It has been a HUGE help to me to have him eating the same way I do, and also it has been…
  • I always feel so badly for people who are giving lengthy liquid diets pre-op. :( Hang in there dearie! And yes, you WILL lose weight post op as long as you follow the guidelines. No worries!
  • "Dense"-- chicken, pork, beef, fish as close to its natural state as possible (not processed). "Lean" means it is low in fat (skinless white meat chicken, lower fat cuts of pork and beef, etc). When I am behaving I eat a low carb, high fat diet so I get to eat fat in my meat (YAY! No nasty dry chicken breast for me!!). :)
  • As someone who IS an addict (alcohol and prescription drugs) I can tell you my experience with sugar is so close to how I used to feel when I drank/used that I very much consider myself addicted to carbs. In the three plus years I have been in recovery, I have been experiencing a gradual awareness of the impact sugar has…
  • Thanks for the 411! Took care of that tonight. Because it IS annoying!!
  • Hmmmm. I have not had plastic surgery, but I can tell you at 18 months out I can eat almost like a "normal" person. I can eat 6-7oz of protein AND a salad or 1 c. of veg. If I am not really paying attention, and eating to stuffed (rather than just satisfied) I could probably eat more. My strategy is to stick with dense…
  • I am 18 months out. Initially, very little hunger (first week or so). After a few weeks, I did experience hunger, but not nearly as intensely as pre-op. By 4-6 months out I was experiencing hunger, but again, it was not as intense as in the past. I also got full eating between 1/2-1 cup of food. The further out I got, the…
  • HOLY SCHMOLIES!! Wow! What a transformation!!! :)
  • That is FABBY!! I had that happen... and then I lost another 35 pounds and I can't wear them again because they are too loose (oops!). No big, though. I'm still happy! :)

  • Pat, you are RAGING AWESOMENESS!!! You are an inspiration to me and OODLES more folks here on this board. YOU ROCK!!! :)
  • Lookin FABBY!!! :)
  • I had a similar experience with "non-dieting" in that I thought the idea was I could eat whatever I wanted, in any amount I wanted-- and I gained a LOT of weight. But what I failed to put into practice were the other aspects of non-dieting/intuitive eating. I was not asking myself if I was truly hungry. I was not exploring…
  • I did not do much as far as making changes pre op. I lost just enough weight to convince the insurance company to approve me, and then promptly gained most of it back in needless "food funerals" (eating all of the things that would be "off limits" post op) once I was approved. After the surgery, I did everything I was told…
  • I can relate to resenting "diet food". Been there- done that. As long as I had that resentment, I was unable to stick to my food plan- I was just too angry. Maybe a slower approach would work for you? By that I mean trying out an occasional low carb recipe-- maybe a few per week-- and eat the way you prefer the rest of the…
  • I have a lengthy history of disordered eating (compulsive eating, binge eating and also restriction) and I have found meditation, yoga and other mindfulness strategies to be an integral part of my healing process. I cannot say I never overeat or eat compulsively, because I still do sometimes- but my binges are far more…
  • I am nearing the end of a 30day yoga challenge at the Bikram yoga studio where I practice-- otherwise I would join in! I LOVE yoga and have found it tremendously helpful in gaining strength and health. Enjoy!
  • I feel the same way- only it is about kale. I have always HATED kale. Last night, I gave it a try sauteed in some bacon fat. It was DELICIOUS. And I will be doing it again soon. So funny how tastes can change. :)
  • Ups and downs definitely happen. Since I have committed to LCHF as a lifestyle, I feel less anxious when I "jump ship"-- ok, so I had an evening binge, or I had popcorn at the movies, or whatever--- if I choose, I can make my very next bite LCHF. In the past, when I was "dieting" the being off-plan would go on for DAYS…

  • I find I do not have to worry about cals if I stay within my macro guidelines. Some days I eat 1400 cals- other days I eat 2400-- I eat based on how hungry I am. If I eat carbs, my cals can be way higher with a lot more hunger and I feel like poo-- so for the most part, I prefer staying on track just because I feel so much…
  • I am 18 months out, at goal and I have mine set at 2000, but I don't care if I go over. My macros are as follows: 50g carb (11%), 100g protein (23%), 129g fat (66%). I have days I am way lower on cals--14-1500, and days I am higher-- I go by how hungry I am. My main concern is not to go over 50g carbs-- the rest I do not…
  • Egg salad. I dip pork rinds in it. YUM. I also LOVE spaghetti squash--- I roast a big FAT one on the weekend and then just reheat as needed. My preferred way to eat it is with salt, pepper and butter. SO GOOD! Sliced home grown tomatoes with basil and mozarella are delightful, too. :)
  • YES-- THAT is how grits should be eaten! YUM And I hear you on the cake. LOVE IT.
  • I <3 yoga and I am a big fan of it. Also, there are crap TONS of resistance-type workouts on YouTube. I am sure you could find a few that would work for you. My suggestion?- keep it simple. Just a few exercises at a time at first. None of that "Insanity" workout stuff where you are ready to DIE. lol Be good to you-- and…
  • :( I would be SO sad if I had to give up coffee. LOVE it. Glad you found out what the problem was, though.

  • You are just a doll! TY. <3
  • I would KILL for a cupcake right now. Not just any cupcake though-- there is a specialty bake shop not far from where I live that makes the BEST, monstrous vanilla w/ buttercream cupcakes.... UGH.
