It's only been about a year and a half since I bought my first "official" pair of running shoes...and I now have 7 pairs...with only 1 being officially retired. Yeah. I may have a problem. I have: Brooks Ravenna 3 - retired Brooks Ravenna 4 #1 - almost retired but not quite (350ish miles on them) Brooks Ravenna 4 #2 - my…

Do it!!!

I thought it was only the Half Marathon that goes through the Zoo?!

Good luck!!! I haven't run a 50 miler, but I did pretty much put everything but the kitchen sink in my drop bag at my 50K. I thought I had it organized...but NO, I was digging through trying to find this and that. Definitely keep it simple. I like the idea of putting any extra clothes in a zip lock or something so they're…

I probably posted on this board awhile back, but I did finally get my 2014 schedule finalized through October. I'm intentionally waiting to actually register for November & December in case I start to get burned out (don't want to sign up for more long races if I don't think I can handle it). (Oh and my goal for 2014 is at…

I finally got a comment!!! The comments on the Runner's World website are pretty funny also. I guess a lot of people thought it was real and the actual Badwater had to make a statement about it. The fact that Run Disney races are pretty much the complete opposite of ultra's just makes it hilarious to me.

I just run slower than I normally would in a race setting. If you're worried you can't do that, maybe look into the Galloway approach and have set walking intervals? Or if you wear a heart rate monitor, watch it to make sure your heart rate doesn't get too high?

Thanks for posting the link - I am officially in and have a "yes" under the qualified portion! Whew!

I'll always run on the sidewalk over the road if it's available and free of snow/ice/sprinklers. In the summer, I swear no matter what time I go for a run, the sprinklers in the park adjacent to my house are ALWAYS on, and they go right over the sidewalk. Drives me CRAZY. So then it's like I have no choice but to run on…

I love Dailymile (I would agree with one of the above posters though - on how I don't like how it rounds my miles in the summary - but just FYI it doesn't do it in the weekly progress reports). I love seeing my miles each week, month and year! Great way to see my progress! I'm up for more friends as well -…

I would totally do it...if I could ever manage to lose my stomach flab...that's my one area that I still hate! So giggly. But if I had a nice set of abs, I would totally do it!

I love even mileage! If I have the time, I will always go the extra distance to hit my next mile....I'm just weird like that :)

Alright...even though it goes against most peoples recommendations, I think I am just going to do the Ascent... The 50 Miler is important to me, and I think I will still get the same out of just doing the Ascent, than I would the marathon without potentially injuring myself prior to the 50. Plus, since I live in Colorado,…

I've been trying to buy the "healthier" lettuce mixes to make salads with - such as kale and spinach blends...and as much as I try, I just don't like it. I feel like I'm eating leaves and grass...I think what I hate the most is that the stems are so long...that's the worst part. I'll stick with my romaine, thank you! Also…

It's ~7800 feet of gain because you start in Manitou Springs which is already at high altitude. I live in Colorado, so I've got lot of access to mountains and high altitude :)!!! I guess I'd say I'm mostly worried of injury on the downhill - especially since I've got an Ultra the month following. One thought I have is to…

Yes! So excited!

Haha true - but for the Ascent it's via a nice comfy shuttle (although it would also probably be very stinky...as I've noticed the last couple times I've had to shuttle back with a bunch of sweaty runners crammed into a small space, lol).

In my opinion, If you're already a size 6 - you probably don't need to lose any...but if it will make you happier on the big day - don't hold back. You can always alter it. I bought my wedding dress at my heaviest weight of 170 lbs. I was 140 by the wedding. I had to have to taken in twice. But I definitely don't regret it!

Congrats! And seriously awesome job running in those conditions (both being sick and having to deal with rain!!!). I am impressed! As much as you want to sit around and do nothing (at least - that's always how I feel), I agree with the advice to walk! You will be sore, but I think walking around definitely helps with…

I really like Nike Pro with Dri-Fit: http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/pro-sports-bra/pid-828416/pgid-282969

I am looking for any motivation I can get to get back on track. I hit my goal weight in May of last year, kept it off thru early fall...and then all those holidays hit...and I gained about 8 lbs back, so here I am again! Trying to stay motivated! I know I can lose it, but I do have to work at it. SW: (Starting weight): 170…

That's when I would say "You can walk a mile in 10 minutes? Let's see it" As annoying as it is, I think most people just don't realize what pace a long run is...after I finished my marathon, an older lady asked me "What was your time?" I said "A little less than 4 and a half hours" (I ran it in 4:26, which is a 10:11…

Yes - it still surprises me how many people don't know how long a marathon is and/or think it can be multiple distances (and very SHORT distances)..it is and forever will be TWENTY SIX POINT TWO MILES! Also, the whole "you're going to ruin your knees" kills me...seriously...I could also ruin them doing other things…

I'm not catholic, but I am Christian, and like the reasoning behind it, so I typically do give something up. Last year I gave up soda, and was actually pretty successful at it. This year I'm thinking either chocolate (one of my biggest weaknesses), or maybe all fast food / coffee and then try to do something good with the…

I haven't been the biggest fan of my Brooks Cascadia's (despite LOVING all my Brooks road shoes), so I'm looking for a new trail shoe. Will definitely have to check the Hoka's out the next time I make it into a running store, as I keep hearing about them!

I'd agree with Zen...it just takes awhile. I am not to a point where I can run a marathon at a 9 minute pace, but I have done a 10K at 8:16 pace, and a Half Marathon at 8:54 pace (those were still pretty hard for me though, I really had to push myself). That being said, I still do my long runs at a SLOW pace. Between 10:30…

Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one who hates paying race fees! And yes - I probably wouldn't even think twice if they just added it to the race cost...in fact, I'd probably be stoked thinking they didn't have fees, and be more likely to sign up. And I would agree, Active is the devil! Haha...I too almost signed up for…

I know it's easier said that done, but definitely don't compare yourself to others, and don't feel like you have to run fast all the time. That was the key to me really getting into and sticking with running a year and a half ago when I started. I used to not even be able to run for 5 minutes without stopping, and have now…

Totally cool - but sad that they aren't going through Colorado!

Less calories and more protein: 1 cup of non-fat greek yogurt is 120 calories, plus it's got ~20 grams of protein. Usually even light dressing is around 100 calories for only 2 TBSP, and doesn't have any protein.
