Hi All - I'm kinda in the same boat as you all. I've definitely struggled with my weight ever since college. In 2011, I got on MFP for the first time and over a couple years lost up to 45 lbs at one point, although 30-35 lbs was more of what I could sustain. I ended up finding running and through that kept that 30-35 lbs…

I've never had issues with my toes being cold as long as I'm moving, but for hands, mittens are definitely the way to go, or mittens over gloves - it makes a huge difference for me!

All I'll say on the subject, is that if you DO wear it, you're much more likely to get your picture used as marketing for the race!

My first marathon went extremely well. I had a strong base before I even started training - 10-12 mile long runs every weekend. Then I did Hal Higdon's Intermediate 1 program where I did almost every workout. I think the biggest thing that made me enjoy the experience was not having a time goal. I wanted to run the whole…

According to the BMI, 109 it is about the lowest you would want to be, but it isn't underweight. I do, however, think eating under 1200 calories is unwise. As others have said, just don't eat at such a deficit. It's much harder to lose the weight when it gets lower like that so just take it slowly. And I too, always have a…

I swear not all runners are jerks  ... but yes please understand the difference between a 10K and a Marathon. A marathon is ALWAYS 26.2 miles. A 10K is 6.2 miles (and still an awesome distance). That being said - it's hard to offer any advice without any background. Do you run currently? If so, how far? Have you…

Congratulations! I'm going for a BQ this year as well!

I'm assuming you meant to type, "Fast" pace there... And so all I have to say is whatever you decide - don't even think about running "fast" for your first marathon. All training should be done at an easy pace (slow enough that you can talk), until you build up a strong enough base. Don't even think about speed until…

Very true. I ran my first marathon in 4:26:45 and felt awesome the entire time. I even negative split the second half! I just ran my 4th in 4:27:11 and the entire second half was MISERABLE because I was trying to run a specific pace at the beginning. I got cocky and thought I could hold a certain pace the entire time and…

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I ended up getting the "large pocket spi-belt": http://www.spibelt.com/products/spibelt/large-pocket-spibelt I've taken it on a couple of runs so far and I LOVE it! It is the first waste pack I have found that actually stays low around my hips (all my others ride up and I end up having to…

Congrats!!! That's an AWESOME time! I want to do another one sometime and try for under 12:00!
-
Love it!!! Yes...definitely want to do this next year!
-
Yes! If it weren't for the pickles and the aid stations having ice, I don't know if I would've made it! ;) (Bees and Wasps sounds HORRIBLE btw....good luck!!!)

Here's the race recap if anyone is interested: http://www.myalpineadventures.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-bear-chase-50-miler.html

Thanks all. That amphipod looks like it could be good. I also saw they have a spi-belt "large" that is supposed to expand more than the regular one. I just wish I had a running store close to me so I could actually go see some of this in person!

Thanks for all of your advice everyone! It was a long, slow day but I did it! Finished in 12:31:16....I was hoping for under 12 - but considering this was my first 50 and it was blistering HOT out, I'm just glad I finished - and enjoyed most of it. I will be posting a blog post sometime in the next week, so I'll be sure to…

Thanks al! Saskie - I like the idea of a treat, thank you! Hmmm now I just have to decide what?! :) Zekela - I did Pikes Peak in mid-August....and then took 3 weeks off....and didn't do much after getting back into it, which is why I'm worried. 2 weeks ago I did back-to-back semi-long runs (a 17.5 and then a 15.5, but…

I do space planning and interior design and typically work 40-45 hours/week (8am to 5-6pm) with the occasional days of working to 7-8pm. It can be tough. As hard as it is to get into the habit of it, I've found I'm most consistent with mileage when I run in the mornings - it's a lot easier to get it done - and then if I…

With over 300 days of sunshine in Colorado, I pretty much always run with sunglasses unless it's raining out (which is very rare). I am not a hat person - but I do wear a visor a lot of the time as well - I've found it helps keep my sunglasses from falling down my nose, haha. As for brand, I really like the "headsweats"…

Haha, love this!!!!! Thanks for sharing! Edit to add - the first one about hills is so me (well in road vs. trail running, I've only done 2 ultra's).
-
Definitely! Yeah someone on facebook said they were thinking people would get in with BQ-1:00 or maybe even less than that this year! We'll have to see!!!
-
I hope they keep it up for 2016!!!
-
-Qualify for the Boston Marathon -Run the Boston Marathon -Run a 100 Mile Ultra -Hike all easy and moderately difficult 14ers in the state of Colorado (which comes to 39 - I've got 7 of them done :)

Haha loved it!

I haven't done that specific game / can't use my Kinect anymore because my living room is too small, BUT I had "Your Shape Fitness Evolved" back in 2011 - it's what I first used when I wanted to lose weight - back before I was in shape at all and didn't like going to the gym, and I lost about 30 lbs. using it. I think the…

Steamboat does look like it could be a good one, and I'd probably be okay with the altitude. I just raced Aspen Valley which was 7800' and didn't have a problem (and of course living at 4500' helps a lot!). It's getting a little later into summer than I want, so it might be a good "second attempt", if I don't get it on an…

I've got a few left for this year: -Pikes Peak Marathon on August 17th -Denver Rock-n-Roll Marathon on October 19th -Rim Rock Marathon on November 1st Goals are: -Pikes - #1 Goal: Finish before the 10.5 hour cut off, #2 Goal: Finish under 8 hours -Denver - I'd LIKE to PR and go sub-4....however, I'm not sure how hilly the…
