I do a Spin Class as my cross training once a week. I've heard Spin or Elliptical are some of the better actual "cross training" for runners. When it comes to strength training, I've heard things like squats and lunges are better than heavy lifting... But this is all just what I've heard, I am no expert.

I think I'm one of the rare few who actually likes my Implanon arm implant. I did have spotting for the first couple months but then it went away and now I don't have anything. I can actually feel where it is in my arm, so I know it's not lost or anything (and I would know to go into the doctor if I couldn't feel it…

Am I only one who is confused on why it would be a "long pour" - if she asked the term "do you sell" - wouldn't it be something like "can you do"? Do you SELL implies it's an object/thing that can be bought. If it's just pouring the coffee in a certain way, then obviously they would be able to do it - she would just need…

Amazing progress and story! I've also had a huge lifestyle change in the past couple years (took me a little longer than you!), but I love being healthy and active. I still have yet to get into lifting, as I've found running to be my passion...but your pictures totally make me want to start doing more of it! You look…

Cherry Coke Zero is my favorite!! Moderation is my answer to everything...

You could always do both - a couple days a week go for long and slow, and then a couple days do more intense/short interval. I know for me, when I train for long races, I do 1 long, slow run per week, a few medium length runs, and then 1 day of speedwork - which is very similar to intervals (short runs at a fast pace…

Not yet, but I have thought about it and I totally want to!

I know people will cringe...but I use the Sugar free creamers, which are only like 15 or 20 calories for 1 TBS (if I remember correctly). And I've never had trouble losing weight with artificial sweeteners...so I figure all is fine in moderation.

After losing 30 lbs 2 years ago, and then an additional 15 this winter/spring, I finally hit my goal weight in May and have been attempting to maintain ever since. I've never been this thin in my adult life, so it is a bit of a challenge for me to maintain. I have had a lot of slip ups where I eat like my old self and gain…

Awesome - and lucky you for winning! I am always entering to win race entries...no such luck so far, but maybe someday! I love running and am training for my first marathon in January, with a few other races leading up to it - a 17.1 mile mountain run on September 7th, a Half Marathon trail run on September 12, and…

I've never understood everyone's "running outside if harder than inside"...maybe it's because I didn't start running outside until I had built up more of a running base, but I HATE running inside on treadmills. I end up staring at the mileage and time counters and it feels like to takes way longer! So, IMO, running inside…

I also keep thinking this - honestly, your HRM seems like it could be off if it's telling you that you burned 1500 calories in less than 2 hours. It of course depends on your size and fitness level, but honestly, I would calculate a MAX of 600 calories an hour (or 100 calories/10 minutes of strenuous exercise).

Yes, I know I could get a headlamp (actually I have one)...but running alone in the dark in the freezing cold of winter just isn't that enjoyably to me. I do run outside on the weekends and in the summer though. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...I'm just letting the OP know that I did very well on my first half…

My first half marathon was in March, and I live in Colorado, so all of my weekday runs were on a treadmill (due to lack of light in my off-work hours). I didn't have any problem. I think, as long as you're doing a majority of your long runs outside you will be fine! Put the treadmill on a bit of inline (1-2) to simulate…

I bought the Garmin Forerunner 210 w/ HRM refurbished on Groupon for $150.00. I love it, except sometimes I have trouble getting it to connect and charge on my computer. I went for the 210 over the 110 because in the winter I run on the treadmill a lot, so my plan is to buy the foot pod eventually.

I would race every weekend if I had the money...of course the ones I'm looking to do are only between 10 miles and about 17-18, so it's not as hard on my body as a full marathon... But I'm sure once I start doing marathons I'll be in the same boat...I love racing!

10 minute mile isn't slow for a marathon IMO...that's what I'm hoping to do it in. Or maybe even slower - I've decided since I'm running my first in Disney, I want to actually enjoy it...so I think I'll just be taking mine easy and since it's my first I won't have a time to beat yet! But as for training, how soon are the…

Thanks, will definitely have to try this!

It took me a lot longer to lose weight once I started getting closer to my goal, but it was still do-able. I ate around 1400 + ALL my exercise calories, which typically means about 1800 per day. Now I'm maintaining at 1600 + exercise (so about 2000). I'm 5'-6.5", started at 170 lbs, now 125.

I need it too! Please post the recipe!!!

In oatmeal with shredded coconut sounds DELICIOUS! I love coconut...will definitely have to try this!

You totally can become a long distance runner! Just go slow - that's what I do! BUT, to answer your question, you should be able to run a half marathon doing a walk-run method - just make sure the HM you sign up for doesn't have really stringent cut off times. Typically I think most have around a 15-16 minute/mile (or…

We don't have a Dunkin Donuts anywhere near me...but I love their donut holes! All the flavors - glazed, powdered, cinnamon sugar...yum! We also don't have a Krispy Kreme...so pretty much no good donuts anywhere...but I think it works out well for this whole fitness thing!

The main thing I learned is that a trail run is really a "rike" - you run and hike it. You power hike the uphill sections and you run the flats and downhills. Now don't take the fact that you're only hiking the uphills to mean you don't need to train. You want to get some good uphill training in so you don't have to stop…

When I was really young I think I tried almost everything - gymnastics, swimming, dance, softball, tennis, track...But I usually only ever got 1 season out and then I quit. I did play volleyball from 7th grade to 11th grade...didn't do it my senior year because I knew I would end up sitting the bench the whole season... So…

I do love me some five guys! It's a really good thing the closest one to me is 5 hours away... But I eat turkey burgers and/or veggie burgers at home when I'm wanting a burger but don't want to ruin a good day!

Of Monsters and Men! I'm obsessed with them right now...an early morning run with them in the background = pure bliss!

I ran my first 5K in July, and then my first Half Marathon in March, so about 8 months. I definitely think you have time and it sounds like you have a pretty solid base! Do it! EDIT to add that I used a Hal Higdon plan modified to fit into my schedule. I'm also going to use his plans to train for my first marathon in…

Awesome story and great progress!! I was like you in that, I was maintaining at a pretty good weight for awhile, and then I got really into running - and wanted to lose 15 more lbs just so I could get faster! And good news - I did lose those 15 lbs and I have definitely been getting faster! I did have to start logging…
