I am an "apple" and I have done Atkins a couple of times in the past. I did lose a lot of weight while on it but that was because after a point I just could not bring myself to eat another bite of meat and so had a huge calorie deficit every day. The only thing that I think will work for me is a simple calorie deficit. I…

I have been searching all over to verify if insane itching is one of the peri-menopause symptoms. I am 47 and the constant all over itch started about 2 years ago and has now evolved to the point where I get giant hives in any spot on my skin where pressure is applied. At first I thought I was having allergic reactions to…

No, not entirely. I have cut sugar down when I can and I use more whole wheat flour than white but I still use both to some degree. Losing weight is hard enough so why make it harder by eliminating gigantic groups of foods. I have only been actively trying to lose weight for about 8 weeks at this point but I think I am…

I know there are a lot of "macro" trackers on this site but honestly the only thing I worry about are calories (maybe sodium but that is because I retain water like crazy). Maybe eventually I will worry about the other numbers but for now all I can handle is straight up calorie counting.

To: MyChocolateDi (forgot to use the Quote function): You should be able to find it in the baking aisle by the evaporated milk, dry milk, etc. at the store.

There is only one sure fire way to lose weight and then maintain it and that is to change your lifestyle permanently. Crash diets don't work long term because that diet will end and in that process you have done nothing to retrain yourself on how to eat in the real world. The people on this board who preach moderation know…

I switched sugar for fiber in my diary since I was sick of seeing the big red number in my sugar column every day. You can barely eat 2 pieces of fruit a day without going over and that is ridiculous. Unless you are a diabetic or have some other medical condition, I would ignore it.

Atkins. I hate that diet with every fiber of my being but I have found it to be the quickest way to lose weight. I was never able to stay on it longer than 6 weeks but I lost 25 pounds in that 6 week period of time. Of course, I gained every single pound back within a couple of months of reentering the bliss filled world…

I lost steadily for 4 weeks then had a 10 day period of time where I only lost 2/10 of a pound. Patience is a virtue in the weight loss game. At the end of the 10 days I started losing again. I just stayed the course of eating my allotted calories. I anticipate these mini-plateaus will happen many times in the next year or…

I am not one of the "eat more" people either. Looking at a few pages of your diary would indicate you eat out a lot. Personally, I found the only way I can lose weight is to cook from scratch as much as possible. I work 2 jobs and have only 1 day off a week so I know how hard it is to find time to cook but I just do not…

Your grandmother and mother won't be living with whomever you end up with, you will. Don't ever choose based on someone else's expectations of what is right for you. Having said that, when in love people tend to be blissfully ignorant and a cold objective eye can be a lifesaver. Based on what you have said though, grandma…

I use low fat versions of pretty much all dairy products and I still drink a diet soda a couple of times a week. Other than that I try to just make everything from scratch to eliminate all of the preservatives and additives, which I think are potentially far more harmful than any "real" food. Besides, packaged "diet" foods…

Thanks for sharing. I could not agree more with the content of that article. I, for one, am very tired of the daily "it's going to kill you" chicken little meme.

I tend not to cook with specialty type items and I honestly don't even know what PB2 even is:ohwell:

Just cut a few calories the rest of the week to make it up. Some days you go over and some days you don't, if you watch it, it evens out in the end.

This issue with the chemical that Pepsi uses, if you investigate further, the studies were in rats and they estimate a human being would have to drink 1000 Pepsi's a day to get the toxic amount of the chemical and even then it MIGHT cause cancer. Of course, I am a Diet Coke/Diet Dr. Pepper fiend and have decided to live…

Just visited the website and while I won't be making these chocolate bars the oopsie bread that is on there is happening. Thanks for posting that link.

Yes, I lost about 40 pounds on Atkins but then could take it no more. Carbs and I were meant to be together. I went on Weight Watchers afterwards (well after a few dozen Cinnamon rolls) and lost additional weight. As long as you have a calorie deficit you will lose weight regardless of the diet, it's just math. I…

I made this for dinner last night and all I can say is yummm. Though, I did add a little minced garlic and some red pepper flakes to mine. I was Jonesing for some Chinese and it hit the spot very nicely.

Yup, I stepped wrong, hit the non moving part of the treadmill with one foot, went down onto my knee on the leg that was still on the moving part and it shot me backwards into another row of treadmills behind me. All I could do was kind of lie there and laugh for a minute. I banged my knee up pretty good but with some ice…

That is not great advice, sorry. You do realize that an untreated UTI can lead to serious complications, especially since you have no idea which organism is responsible for the UTI. I would at least get tested to see what the organism is causing it. I had one that was E. coli and no amount of cranberry juice or "natural"…

That article was full of very good advice. For me the key has been not to "deprive" myself of so-called "bad" food. I simply come up with a healthier version of them. I just had a greek yogurt and light cream cheese cupcake that had 87 calories and it was completely satisfying. I don't consider it a "substitution" since it…

I don't quite believe in starvation mode leading to weight gain or plateaus. Many years ago I wound up very ill and was maybe consuming 500-800 calories a day and in the space of 2-1/2 months I went from 126 pounds to 108 ( height 5 feet 6 inches). I sure didn't gain weight or plateau during that time, it was a steady…

Wish there were more people like you. I can't tell you the number of times I have gone out for a walk and had people scream at me out their car windows that I am a fat cow (usually much worse than that). It happened to my 27 year old daughter a few weeks ago while she was out walking for exercise after having a baby. It…

I save at least 1000 for dinner and after. Breakfast is 200ish and lunch is 200ish. I have learned that the evening is the roughest part of the day for me so I make sure I leave lots of wiggle room.

There isn't a right answer to this question. You do what works for you and it takes trial and error to figure out what that is. Having a splurge meal (within reason) once a month works for me. A gigantic blowout binge day or weekend messes with my head (clearly I am one of those people who has an "unhealthy relationship…

I stumbled across the below link the other day. I think a lot of it could be tweaked to be healthier. http://www.ringaroundtherosies.net/2012/02/freezer-cooking.html

I haven't had a cheat yet for this particular round of dieting but when I do, I will log every single bit of it. Just because you don't log it doesn't mean it didn't happen, you can't lie to your body. I got fat in the first place by lying to myself about how much I was eating. You know the typical fat person who says "but…

I just pulled a batch of cheesecake "cupcakes" out of my oven. They aren't too sweet but very creamy. They don't taste as rich as a "real" cheesecake but they are pretty good. I will probably add more fruit next time to amp up the sweet factor a bit. I don't recall where I got the recipe. According to MFP recipe…

There is a show in the UK called Secret Eaters (check it out on YouTube) and if the people on that show are any indication, people grossly underestimate the amount of food they are eating. Also, when I was on Weight Watchers they had us do an exercise where we would put "little bites" into a baggie (you know when you are…
