  • I've lost 24 pounds and I don't see any real difference either but I do feel a difference in my knees and back. Also, I have been tracking inches instead of just pounds and I have lost 1-1/2 inches off my waist, so I know that the hard work is paying off.
  • People seek out support for a position that they already hold. On this site throw out any scientific data that indicates diet soda is bad for you and go with anecdotal evidence that "hey, I lost X amount of weight drinking it so it must be fine."
  • Agree with OP, it is a set up for failure to try to force yourself to eat food you hate. I have done too many diets where I forced myself to eat certain foods, or worse, eliminated other foods completely. I always failed on these diet "plans." At this point I simply count calories, it's the only thing that works for me.…
  • I do it based strictly on calories in/calories out because that is the only thing that works for me. Each person has to individually find what works for them. I get annoyed when people think they have found the holy grail of weight loss because there isn't one, there is no one size fits all weight loss plan. I fully admit…
  • I have 100 pounds to lose (I'm down 20, so now it is more like 80). I have to say I disagree with the post above that you have to radically cut things from your diet. I eat pretty much whatever I want within the calorie goals I have that day. You have to find what works for you. Some people are able to completely eliminate…
  • I asked this question a month or so ago and got flamed for it. I quit drinking anything with artificial sweetener this time around (been on the diet roller coaster many times) and I have indeed noticed a difference. I feel better, less energy fluctuations (crashing) throughout the day and I am losing weight faster. I have…
  • Seriously, who has time to get in the weeds with tracking every single nutritional value. I work, I go to school and I have a family. I stay within my calories and try to keep an eye on sodium. There are even a couple of days every month where I will go over and I'm fine with that because this is life.
  • Shelled pistachios, they take time to eat and satisfy crunchy, salty cravings. I have a serving of those and a piece of dark chocolate every night. Also, 15-20 cal Popsicles and 40 cal Fudgesicles. Also, if I just need something "junky" Del Taco turkey tacos are my go to. I fully admit my entire strategy is nothing more…
  • "Wrong" who gets to decide that? Weight loss is a crazy thing, there is not a one size fits all answer to it, so it's pretty hard to determine what "wrong" is, isn't it?
  • LOL, okay, I guess I'm crazy. Like I said, I have always believed it's calories in/calories out and nothing more. I do know that my sweet tooth hasn't been driving me nuts though and I don't feel hungry ALL the time like I usually do the first few weeks. I forgot this was a hot button issue, been off this board for a few…
  • I was on MFP 2 years-ish ago and lost 44 pounds. Then I simply stopped logging on a daily basis until I didn't log at all and, even worse, I stopped getting on the scale. A year later I stepped on that scale and had gained 35 pounds back. No real "trigger," I just got lazy and made excuses. I got back on MFP in January and…
  • I was doing MFP a couple years ago and lost 44 pounds...then I stopped logging and stopped getting on the scale, a year-ish went by and 35 pounds had "magically" reappeared, so I started logging and stepping on the scale again in January. Lesson learned, I have to weigh myself frequently and log diligently. Just keep…
  • Weigh and measure everything and log everything accurately every single day. It is that simple. Radical changes tend to lead to failure. I kept it simple this time around by just counting calories based on the MFP goal calculator set to lose 1 pound per week.
  • I just checked mine. I always thought I was an apple, but nope, I am a banana. I agree with the others who stated that diets based on body shapes or blood types are BS.
  • Yep, I gained a few. My main plan is to shrug it off and not get emotional about it. I am simply going to get back to logging everything and get some exercise going on. I expect it to all come back off relatively easy with little wailing and gnashing of teeth.
  • Well, I have to agree with the article on a couple of points, for instance, the whole idea of "exercising" in stilettos is idiotic. While all exercise has inherent risks, most of those mentioned in the article increase the risk of injury by a significant degree. Overall the article focused on some pretty stupid exercise…
  • I kinda don't believe in "cheat" days. Certain days and events I just eat and don't worry too much about it. I don't binge, I just don't freak about every calorie. I try to stick close to maintenance those days but if I go over, oh well, it isn't the end of the world, it's 1 day. I belong to the "it's a lifestyle change,…
  • You can eat anything you want, it's as simple as calories in and calories out. If you want to lose weight you simply have to log every calorie you eat and make sure you weigh and measure properly. If you want super easy where you have to do nothing, you might check out one of the programs that delivers food to your door.…
  • Scrooged and The Year Without a Santa Clause.
  • I make mine using diet lime coke. It clocks in at 193 calories. I use 0.5 ounce each of tequila, captain morgan, vodka, gin and triple sec.
  • Be your own Jennie Craig. It's all about measuring and weighing your food and staying within your calorie goal for the day. If you don't have "time" to cook on a daily basis, just cook up a big batch of food on your weekend and break it down into serving sizes. It ends up being less expensive, you control all ingredients…
  • Agree, I always log it as 1 cup cooked rice, which is 205 calories. 1 cup of dry rice would make about 3 cups cooked.
  • I was asked 26 years ago and I still vividly remember it. I wasn't even that fat back then, maybe 20 pounds overweight. It seems to happen to the ladies who are only a bit overweight. It is a very rude and obnoxious question, especially if another woman asks because it is probably meant to be catty. Guys who ask are…
  • Did she really eat the equivalent of 1 cup of dry rice? That's a lot of rice in one sitting.
  • 2 pounds in 2 weeks sounds about right. I am taller, 5'6", and weigh more than you (a lot) and eat in the 1200-1300 range most days and I do not do a ton of exercise, and I lose about 1 pound a week.
  • Yes ma'am, I lost 65 pounds a few years ago and then gained every bit of it back plus 20. I got "back on the wagon" in May and have found it much easier actually to lose weight this time. I don't know if it is "for good" this time, but I have stuck to it longer than ever before and even the holidays haven't really caused…
  • I weigh myself every morning but I only log it on Friday. If I don't get on the scale daily, I tend to backslide.
  • I accidentally left the butter out of my banana bread once and didn't even add applesauce, just the bananas were enough and it was delish.
  • 1. You have to log everything and weigh every bite you put in your mouth. 2. Exercise is NOT the key to weight loss, diet is. 3. If you think to lose weight you have to suddenly begin exercising 6 hours a day and radically alter your eating habits with some fad diet, you are much more likely to fail.
  • Mine is open, I don't think I fit IIFYM description because I kinda don't give a rat's butt about macros. I just count calories and stop eating when they are gone, don't care where they come from. I also don't exercise much. I am the poster child of all things to do "wrong" while trying to lose weight and yet it is working…
