  • I don't exercise much and have lost weight. Use the recipe feature on this site, put your ingredients in and voila it does the math for you. Does it take time to log your calories? Yes, yes it does. If you think there is an easier way to do it, I am afraid not. I log every bite I eat and weight every item on a digital…
  • Hi Lauri, I am a sugar addict as well. Been on here for 6 months now and so far, so good. This site has been amazingly helpful for me, the food diary mostly. I have done every fad diet known to man, so I basically ignore the forums regarding dieting advice and simply eat at a calorie deficit. Though I do confess to…
  • My sister's doc told her to never walk around without shoes on or shoes with adequate support. Absolutely no flip flops and no bare-feet, even around the house.
  • Did anyone say that "women fared better in the past?" I don't recall any single person making that particular argument. It would be moronic if any one had in fact made that statement. I had a high school history teacher who said the worst mistake men ever made was giving women the right to vote. I also had a guidance…
  • Wouldn't this list apply to anyone and everyone who posts a comment on any subject? The depth and breadth of self-importance and self-righteousness on any given post is kind of breathtaking. Unless troll specifically and singularly means someone who posts things just to stir the pot, which would probably include about 75%…
  • Nope, not dying. Cold and dead, no chance for resuscitation.
  • Pardon me, hypothetical question, my bad. I hardly ever post, so I don't know where you come off saying I am so fond of them, but I have seen many of your other posts, so I guess I get the snark. I don't have an answer, no one does, as you so graciously pointed out, it is a hypothetical and any answer is the same. However,…
  • I should probably clarify, I am female, wife, mother, grandmother. I know my husband and he would never get on that boat in place of a woman. If we are on a bus and a woman is standing, he gets up and gives her his seat. He isn't a misogynist, it was just the way he was raised. I am not some pampered little diva either, I…
  • \ Well you've got me there. Even though I am a middle aged lady, I guess I am naive. It never entered my mind to assume automatically that someone helping me with my coat or picking up the check is doing it because they perceive I am weak. I always just thought they were extremely polite. Hey, I grew up in the late '70s…
  • Here is the real question, if you were on a sinking ship would you want chivalry to be dead or alive ladies? If you have been arguing that chivalry is a misogynistic ideal, then I am guessing you would want an equitable way of deciding who drowns and who gets in the lifeboat that has nothing to do with gender.
  • I have a feeling this particular poster will at some point meet someone who has tremendous appreciation for his code of ethics. I don't find his outlook sexist, perhaps a wee-bit old fashioned and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
  • Umm, who is defensive towards you? You are stating your opinion and others, myself included, are simply stating our opinion, just because it is different than yours does not make it defensive. Personally, I have not used all caps in any post nor did I say you were a teenager nor did I "lie," I directly quoted you each time…
  • If I may interject, I suspect it is a raging case of thinking it is the appropriate feminist response. Slightly off subject, I wonder how men appreciate being portrayed as completely inept idiots in the modern age. In commercials and t.v. sitcoms you are portrayed as bumbling fools who could not live a day without the…
  • I don't think the idea of honor and being polite are in any way misogynistic. I don't care if the "idea" of it came during a time that was misogynistic, that does not negate it's value. However, I admit to being a lot older than you and raised in a much different society where being polite was a virtue. I think the current…
  • You are only quoting the first definition. Also, "an honorable and polite way of behaving especially toward women." You're welcome.
  • Yes you count them. The calories don't disappear by cooking. However, I don't know anything that needs 2 Tbs of olive oil to cook. I usually use 1/2 or 1 Tbs.
  • "an honorable and polite way of behaving, especially toward women." If this is what you mean, then no, it isn't dead. Most of the men I know are absolutely both honorable and polite. It isn't about opening a door or picking up the check, it's about your overall attitude and behavior towards your fellow man. While there are…
  • I don't really exercise and have lost steadily without it. However, I do know it would be in my best interest to include it in my daily routine for better overall health. My mother lost 40 pounds with zero exercise and has kept it off for about 20 years now, so yes, it is definitely doable.
  • If you don't want to eat it, throw it away before you get home. It sounds like it would have been thrown out anyway if it is end of the night food.
  • So what? If you like low carb and paleo, congrats. It doesn't work for everyone. It's not required that you spend every waking hour seeking "proof" so you can "convert" everyone to your way.
  • Thanks for the info. I live and die by the latest celebrity fads.
  • I like BBC America. My favorite show is Top Gear. They are irreverent and hilarious in ways that are not allowed on American t.v.
  • You are not alone. I have lost 45 pounds and am only down 2 sizes. I don't see a significant difference other than I look "less puffy."
  • I just do calorie deficit. I have tried low carb and am unable to stick with it.
  • I like the KISS method of dieting. I log my calories and stop eating when they are gone. It' s crazy how the weight then "magically" comes off. I tired low carb, it was unsustainable long-term. This time, I eat what I want and I like it.
  • Was the random blood sugar fasting? I think you need to take the 3-hour Glucola test or get blood work (A1c) to get any real idea of your blood sugar issues.
  • But, it is a deep and meaningful statement. Life would be greatly diminished without the addition of a nice juicy steak at least once a week.
  • There is a planetarium (Ruben H. Fleets Science Center) at Balboa Park that my kids enjoyed going to and it didn't cost a ton of money. Best food and service I ever had was at Croce's (Jim Croce's widow runs it). It is kinda pricy but the food was incredible.
  • I realize language is a living and changing thing, but "nucular" just sounds wrong and uneducated to me. Perhaps it is my dislike for certain politicians (former president and one particular vice presidential candidate) who use that pronunciation that makes it so annoying to me.
  • I poured a nice bowl of Grape Nuts one day, ate a few bites and then noticed some stuff floating on top that wasn't Grape Nuts, it was weevils. I can't eat Grape Nuts to this day.
