I usually skip breakfast. I like to have calories to play with later in the day.

27 years and counting. Got married way too young and the running bet was we would make it 5 years tops. We were stubborn and decided to allow no one to win that bet. It's not always easy and it is not the "happily ever after" they try to sell in fairy tales but in my case, definitely "worth it."

Hey me too, maybe we know each other:wink:

I eat white potatoes at least twice a week and rice (usually brown) at least twice a week. I have had no problems losing weight at all. However, I am in no way a poster child for extremely nutritious eating.

I don't even worry about sugar. I switched my log to show fiber instead of sugar. One piece of fruit will put you over on sugar and that is ridiculous. I don't use a lot of added sugar so I simply choose not to worry about it.

I just started taking 2 Tbs a day of unflavored gelatin powder in a cup of tea, as I have read that it can help with skin elasticity. I can tell myself I am not being crazy since it is also commonly recommended by docs for joint pain. Lotions with collagen don't work as the molecules are too large to be absorbed through…

I am 47. I eat a TON of carbs and I have lost 10 inches in my waist and 8 inches in my hips since I started counting my calories and logging at the end of May 2013.

Twice a day Vanilla Coke Zero or Diet Dr. Pepper. I don't drink coffee (no crazy reason, I just hate the way it tastes) so I have to get my caffeine fix somehow. It hasn't hurt my ability to lose weight and I like it, so I am drinking it.

For anyone who asks the question "why aren't I losing weight, I log everything and exercise every day" they need to watch those 2 videos. Therein lies the "secret" to why they aren't losing weight. They don't need to "eat more" and they aren't in "starvation mode." They are underestimating what they eat. Thus the…

Excellent article. This ties in nicely with an earlier thread where the person decided to actually weigh all of her food for a day instead of using cups/spoons/packaging info and found that the actual weight/calorie content of her food was many more calories than she had been logging. If you aren't losing weight, you are…

Like others have said, genetics plays a HUGE role. I have known many people who are extremely healthy, exercise constantly and eat right and their "bad" cholesterol won't budge without meds. I highly doubt it's the eggs.

In a few years there will another one to add to the nutrition lies, but it will still be 13 since one of the lies is in your list - that gluten is bad for everyone.

Nothing by Orson Scott Card. Unless of course you are okay with homophobic right wing ideology.

Yes, white rice, white noodles, potatoes. It's all about calories. Oh yeah, and beer, tequila, wine.

Touche, but old age isn't a curable "disease" obesity is.
-
Obese people cost 40% more a year in health care related expenses than a "normal" weight person. As a rule they do not pay more for health insurance than a "normal" size person, i.e., there is a cost that is spread to people who can push away from the table. Statistically obese people call in "sick" to work more often and…

The best chilli I ever had in my entire life was made with venison.

I don't lie in mine. For me the whole idea of logging in the first place is to be accountable. If you "lie" why waste your time logging. However, that isn't to say my diary is filled with nutritious food, veggies are a rare occurrence, but I do log everything.

I 100% believe in personal accountability. Ronald McDonald dealing his Big Mac "crack" on every corner didn't make me fat, I did that all by myself. The idea that someone who cooks delicious food (no, I am not including McD in that category) is somehow immoral or unethical is completely ridiculous. Lack of self-control is…

I wasn't going to say anything but the whole "ignorant" and "educate themselves" comments irked me. You are right that many people do need to educate themselves, and that would include those who think any one particular food is inherently evil. I don't post often, but zealotry gets my goat a bit.

edited, cuz I need to "educate" myself regarding the "quote" function

I started on MFP 5 months ago and did not exercise (AT ALL) to lose any of my weight. However, as my weight loss has progressed I now have only 1400 calories a day so this past week I have been trying to add 20 minutes of low impact aerobics most days to earn some more calories.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to. All of the stuff you read on here is OPINION. Figure out what works for you and ignore all the noise.

At Jimmy Johns you can ask them to pull out the bulk of the bread (like hollow out the bun) and it reduces calories by a ton. Jimmy Johns is the best sandwich place, hands down.

One meal. If I do more It messes with my head. Not everyone is like that though. You have to figure out just how far over the precipice you can lean.

Laurel on Arrow. I have no idea why, but when I see her face I want to punch her. Abby (Angie Harmon) on Law and Order, oh how I hated her. I realize it seems lame to "hate" a fictional character but, in my defense, our brains don't know the difference between fact and fiction, at least that is what my in depth research on…

Cheat "days" mess with my head. I can have 1 cheat meal every now and then, like every 6 weeks or so. However, I like what I am eating on a daily basis. I simply cook my favorite meals in a lower calorie way. I don't really feel deprived enough to think a "cheat day" is necessary. In the end this is a lifestyle change,…

Exhibitionism comes in all shapes and sizes. In my opinion writing all over yourself and going out in public in your underwear has nothing to do with "loving yourself," it has to do with a burning desire to be noticed at any cost. Besides, she is focusing on outward "beauty" herself and so is still pushing the idea that…
