Interesting, okay. I'm now searching about eating below BMR - I had just sort of taken it as a Serious Thing, my metabolism is slow anyway due to my health condition so I probably panic a bit about doing things 'wrong'. As in my OP I don't mind having a loss of 0.5/1lb, was just wondering if that's where I'd be with a 280…

Yes, and my doctor said similar about being linked to autoimmune issues. I am better off limiting wheat particularly, but I go for a number of gluten-free products. I'm fine with dairy but have to limit soya products - as in larger/noticeable quantities, like soya milk, I'm fine with small amounts of soya. I'm also better…

Don't know exactly about the direct impact of med changes/stopping and starting, but in general hypothyroidism does affect periods and can wreak all sorts of havoc on your cycle. I have a hypothyroid friend who was always regular, went on the pill and remained regular (in terms of break weeks and bleeds at that time), then…

No vit. D either?! I know about calcium and iron needing to be spaced away from meds, also caffeine, and as per intructions I leave about 0.5-1hr between taking meds in the morning with water and eating/drinking other than water. But I hadn't heard that vit. D interacted too!! As for the original question, I do: high…

Not myself, but I have a close friend who is also hypothyroid. Her TSH went from somewhere around 2.0 to nearly 7.0 in less than two months earlier this year :noway: Unfortunately the docs didn't know how to explain it and they just adjusted her levothyroxine (increased) and it leveled out fairly quickly. However I just…

25ug is a h8gh strength. Typical D dosage in vits is 5ug, 10ug in prenatal. 25ug is the amount recommended if you live 8n a sun-deficient (!) area.

Vit. D deficiency is common not only in hypothyroid patients, but also the general public. It depends on the region and the typical workplace there, but overall many more people are staying indoors, working at screens etc and so get less exposure to the sun. As a result they tend to become D deficient as they're not…

Best of luck to you! I have found so many helpful tips on here and a lot of motivation so I hope it's the same for you. I have a 6 month old and had put on weight pre-pregnancy due to thyroid issues, so there's even more to shift now! I'm also about to start on Zumba at home and will also be trying 30 Day Shred in due…

Both my husband and I take it in different forms for different reasons. He has hydroxocobalamin injected every couple of months for pernicious anaemia (his body doesn't absorb B12 naturally). I take a high strength B Complex vitamin daily due to slightly low B12 stores and low energy levels (all related to an underactive…

:O This could be me. My goal weight is 130. I was 130 about 6 years ago. 6 years ago I thought I was fat. I have compiled a little folder of pics of me - about one for each of the last 8 years - showing how my figure has changed. At 130, I now see, I was SLIM. I was also fit through exercise. People used to tell me I…

Yep. It was actually listed in the guide/leaflet for the first brand of Levothyroxine I was prescribed (doesn't seem to be in my current one but this leaflet is smaller). It mainly mentioned that it is best not to have high caffeine products (eg coffee) when taking your meds. However it's up to you and how you feel as to…

As above re: the ranges - best practice is now 0.3 to 3 for normal, under 2 for optimal. Some doctors still use the old 0.5 to 5 range but that doesn't make it correct also, just outdated. The key with hypothyroidism is actually symptoms 'trump' levels. Loads of people have 'normal' levels but persistent hypo symptoms. So…

Oh, saw the title and was going to say 'Salter'...! I have this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Salter-Design-Electronic-Platform-Kitchen/dp/B000ZNM51O/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1370872464&sr=1-3&keywords=salter [couldn't find the model number so just linked] I've had it for 3 years and replaced the battery once so far…

^^ This. Many congratulations on your baby and upcoming wedding! But I agree with just staying healthy and using shapewear for the day if you want an immediate 'change' in size or shape. At 3 months pp I was proud if I had clean clothes and brushed my hair...! So hats off to you for going full on into such a wonderful…

Ditto above on frozen yoghurt. I always have chocolate frozen yoghurt (if you're in the UK, it's Waitrose Love Life). It's so very tasty, and creamy, and chocolatey. 139cals for 100g which I think is great  Ben & Jerry's also do frozen yoghurt versions of a number of their ice creams (I think they're labelled…

I like Colombian-style lentils, I found a recipe online: http://stuartoswald.com/2010/08/lentejas-easy-lentils.html My favourite however is dal. We usually use a mix of pulses but I don't see why you couldn't also try it with just one type of lentils. It's easiest with a pressure cooker. 1 onion; 2 garlic cloves; palmful…

First off - many congratulations! Secondly many of the posts above have already given great tips, but I just wanted to add one extra thing on the point of calories and eating. Advice varies between countries - I'm in the UK, and when I was pregnant sometimes I would be looking at American sites that had different…

Thanks for the links and the info so far, if there is anything more I should know then it would be very much appreciated

Have you had your levels tested recently? Granted this isn't the most common thing to happen, but I was having some real issues with sleep earlier this year. I have hypothyroidism, but turns out I went hyper for a bit. This was brought on by some major changes in my life - baby was only a month or so old - so with all the…

Hi there, I also know how frustrating that can be :( First off, I wrote a mini-essay (!) on hypothyroidism on another thread, if you want to have a glance: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1007033-underactive-thyroid-feel-like-i-can-t-lose-weight-pleas Not an exhaustive or authoritative account by any means, but the…

I also have hypothyroidism, taking same level of meds. Unfortunately, hypothyroid patients will usually have very slow metabolisms - even if FT4/TSH levels have normalised as far as blood tests are concerned. Here are a few things that I have picked up since I have been diagnosed, learned through online resources, my GP,…
