Hi thanks for the other comments and advice! I managed to get a shift last night so earned some money for food for the week (yay) - we have a cheap supermarket called Lidl here and there's Aldi too so I'm going to see what bargains I can bag (hopefully).

Thanks for the ideas... I'm working my way through the cupboard and it's pretty bare!

I agree with ACG - just make your family's favourites and you can always bulk up your portion with veg or salad for far fewer calories :)

I'm curious as to when exactly sugar intake became pathologised as an addiction? I'm only asking from a pure interests sake... I'm doing research at the moment and everyone seems to come to the same conclusion - as far away as New Zealand and in Singapore. H :)

Seriously did someone quote ALL THOSE PICTURES on the previous page? Really people. No pic quoting means remove the image line from the post you're quoting. It takes 2 seconds. Loving the burrito! Had some glorious eats here in Singapore - I'll be uploading soon when I've got another camera cable (forgot to pack mine, like…

Also think about real-world applicability. Since when did you do blind shopping?

Actually, they don't. I'm a psychologist working in human health and nutrition psychology working within a food science company on a consultancy basis. I'm completely impartial in that regard. I do however know a lot about health claims and legislative matters, together with the consumer side of things. So, no. You are…

Working in food science, totally with ACG on this one. As much as GMOs are used to selectively include things, they also selectively exclude things. I'm not advocating highly processed food - that's an entirely different ball game. Show the evidence base on organic produce. A valid, empirically tested one.

My first ever bibimbap!! I had the kimchi - which I am officially in love with, and dried anchovies, and the whole shebang was just simply devine. Just call me a Korean convert! :)
-
Have you been to FairPrice Finest in Clementi mall? They have a fair selection of organic foods - it's never going to big as regular supermarkets I'm afraid, but they don't do a bad job. H

Awesome thanks guys! I'm going to have to try Korean for lunch AND dinner today as there's so many things there I'd love. Also as I'm a kimchi virgin, I think that has to be addressed haha. Cheers :)

Lontong I'm in Singapore at the moment and so trying to work my way around the food courts and Hawker's places. Does anyone have any 'must try' dishes for Singaporean/Korean/Indonesian fayre? There's so much stuff I'm at a loss of what to try! I had Nasi Padang for the first time the previous day (sorry no pic as my…

@HarDon - thanks for the recipe. I can't eat wheat/gluten but I'll have a play with almond and rice flour. Looks like a fun weekend treat to make :)

I'm in NZ so we don't get tilapia. I mainly eat salmon, cod, terakihi, gurnard and canned tuna for lunches, although I try to not eat too much of that because of the mercury levels. Does anyone know how much you'd have to eat to be at risk?
-
These look yum - difficult to make?

Had a lie-in and skipped breakfast and so made myself an awesome lunch! Scrambled eggs (3, size 6), smoked salmon (75g), capers, and spinach. It was lip-smackingly good!

*SIGH* Again? Seriously? Please for the love of humanity and the contents of my fridge stop pic quoting...

I would never let anyone tell me what to buy or what to eat. If they want it bad enough, they know where the shops are. I take care of my health because I plan on sticking around for a while. I think it's important not to pathologise certain foods. Carbs will not kill you. Sugar will not strangle you - it's about learning…
