Tell her in advance that you apprecite the gesture but do not want cake. Suggest an alternative. The Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches are delicious, and you can put a birthday candle in it!

Mine is open to friends. It's sort of the best of both worlds for me. Those I am on a fitness quest with can get ideas, if we eat together and one has calculated the values for a meal, that is helpful, and, generally, the fact that I know we are counting on each other weighs (pun intended) on my mind in making food choices.

I have found that I do better when I completely abstain from a few things - sugar and dairy. With the dairy, it is just because I like cheese so much and tend to overeat it. I am using soy cheese alternative and really like it. With the sugar, I have terrible cravings that others have described. If I have it, I want more…

I agree with that being too drastic. Put in all your info and see what your recommended calorie intake it. Don't go under that. 2 lbs a week is a healthy pace to lose.
