Whenever I go on vacation or have a big family gathering (like Thanksgiving) coming up, I set my calories to maintenance. That way, I don't go crazy with food, but I'm not stressing about every little treat either when I'm supposed to be having a happy birthday or a romantic vacation. You have to find a happy medium. If…

Break it up into smaller goals. When I started, 200 pounds seemed overwhelming, and I was jealous of everyone who "only" had 10-20 pounds to lose. So, my boyfriend said, "Well, then just try to lose 10-20 pounds. Don't think of it as 200. Break it into chunks." So, I made some mini-goals for myself, and it's been so much…

I had a similar job (delivering pizzas), and I kept all kinds of finger foods in my car so I wouldn't be tempted to get drive-thru or eat pizza. I had a few little baggies of cheese cubes, apple slices, almonds, celery with peanut butter, raisins, and stuff like that. Sometimes I'd roll up lunch meat with a slice of…

Nuts are a healthy fat. Fat does not make you gain weight. Calories do. Nuts are GOOD for you, as long as they aren't salted. Lay off the "nuts are bad" mantra.

Have you had bloodwork done? Do you know if you need those products? Have your doctor check you for insulin resistance and have them check your hormone levels as well. IF you have insulin resistance (not all women with PCOS do), then there's an extended-release Metformin that is much easier on the stomach. I've been on it…

Never say "only" when you say you've lost X amount of pounds. Every pound is a victory. Every single pound. You look great!

Start small. Don't go crazy reducing calories and switching to all lean meats and veggies just yet. This is what I did: 1) Cut 250 calories per day for a couple weeks 2) Cut 500 calories per day for a couple weeks 3) Once I did that, I stopped drinking regular soda and switched to diet 4) Started phasing in more water and…

I just finished W1D2. It's fun, but I wish I could go faster. (I know that will come with time and more weight loss.) I'm pretty thrilled I can run for a minute without stopping with breaks in between. Last year, I could hardly get out of the recliner, and walking across the apartment made me tired.

If you are insulin resistant, make sure your doctor does bloodwork to check your levels if they haven't already. I was put on Metformin and had to switch to a low-ish-carb diet (about 100 per day). Even with medicine, restricting carbs, and exercise, the weight loss is verrrrry slow. I lose .5 - 1 pound per week, if that,…

Me too! I always want to honk and give them a mimed high-five, but I don't want to embarrass them or startle them. So I just think, "You are awesome," and keep driving. I think that when I see *anyone* running, walking, or biking, no matter how much they weigh. It's so great to see people getting off their couch, whether…

Mmm... cake... Don't skip it on your birthday, or at a wedding, etc. It's a special day, not every day. If you're worried about stuffing yourself, just eat lightly at dinner and then have all the cake you want. Don't even worry about it. Chances are, you'll still come under or close to your maintenance calorie range. Happy…

I couldn't see it at first, and then I took pictures and saw a huge difference. As you said, wearing smaller clothes helped too. When you see yourself every single day, it's hard to notice changes. My boyfriend didn't notice either, but then he saw my pictures and it was obvious to him too. Take pictures every time you…

Whenever I have to work on Saturday, he has the house clean, dishes done, and groceries put away before I walk through the door at 6:00. It's awesome.

4. They have insulin resistance and have to eat 100 carbs or fewer per day and get sick and tired of people asking them, "Why are you doing low-carb? You know that sucks, right? You're going to lose so much muscle! Carbs are GOOD for you!" 5. Unsolicited comments from people who see a random board post that has nothing to…

This. Exactly.

Hi Tom. I'm sending a friend request. I was terrified when I started too. It was so hard to face everything and look at the long road ahead. But you know what? After a year, it's habit, and I'm so proud of myself and what I've been through. I promise you'll get there too. :) I started out just walking as far as I could,…

Do you have scripture quotes that come up through your headphones every few minutes, or do you run and then have a bible study, or...? This confused me. :) It sounds like a nice group, though.

I just started yesterday. I'm already excited for Day 2. :) I didn't think I'd used my muscles that much, but then I walked upstairs to my apartment tonight, and I was like, "Oh, THERE you are..." I did an upper body workout since I didn't want to be too sore tomorrow. I'm taking the rest days seriously. I logged it as X…

I read that a year or so ago, right when I first started losing weight. I really like it. :) And as you can see by the title of this thread, I don't take offense to it. ;)

That makes me so happy! Did you like it?

The cues aren't on the playlist. If you download "C25K Free" from the Apple Store and turn your music on, you'll see the songs with the little arrows right in the C25K app. That way, you can have the C25K app active and still switch songs if you want. To find songs that fit the tempo/pace you want, you can check out JogFM.…

A friend of mine recommended the Zombie version last night. I found an iPhone version, so I might try that when we get back from our vacation. We're leaving this weekend, so I'm going to have to repeat Week One anyway. I just couldn't wait to try it. I miiiiiiight do it while on vacation, but my boyfriend reminded me we're…

Haha. I'm not "endowed". I wish! :) I wear a 40C right now. Even at my heaviest, I was still a B or C-cup. That's good feedback for any other heavy ladies who might want to start running, though. I'll bookmark it and pass it along to friends who might want to check them out.

I decided to do it at the little track because I didn't want to fiddle with the treadmill every 60-90 seconds. Plus, if I need to slow down a bit or something, I can just slow down instead of hitting the speed button for the millionth time. Once I can run at a steady pace, I might switch to the gym. Being outside is so…

I should have mentioned that. :) I'm using the C25K app. It lets me listen to my own music at the same time, right in the app itself, so I don't have to switch between the app and iTunes. I made a playlist of songs that fit the tempo I want to focus on right now, and it really helped.

I eat around 2000 calories per day and lose pretty steadily as long as I exercise. I try not to go below 1600-1800 net calories (that's my "sweet spot" for weight loss).

Oh, and those dogs ran with me for parts of the running portion. It was pretty funny. :) Their owners kept apologizing, and I just waved them off. I love dogs, and they weren't getting in my way or nipping or anything. They were just having fun and playing.

That's a really good point about the shoelaces and feet swelling. I noticed my left foot felt a bit numb when I got home, so I'll remember to lace them a bit looser the next time I head out. Thanks!

Your muscles retain water to repair themselves, so if you're weighing in the day after a workout and your muscles are sore, there's a good chance the scale will be up. Try to weigh the day after a rest day, before your workout.
