Activity trackers track step-based activity—including the treadmill. The Charge HR and Surge will track your cardio class. If you have a different model, log non-step exercise either in Fitbit (that's what I do) or in MFP—never both.

You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn—period. So step one is learning to log everything you eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging works. Once you're accurately tracking your calories in, an activity tracker like Fitbit can help you track your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure), the calories…

This is a good way to do it. The other thing you can do is use your pedometer info to decide which activity level to choose.

Fitbit Zip is US$60. You can probably find a used Fitbit on Craigslist. Or ask your friends & family if anyone has one they're not using. When you connect your accounts, MFP adjusts your daily calorie goal to TDEE minus deficit. (I personally wouldn't waste my money on anything that doesn't sync with MFP.) Fitbit…

Activity level is everything but exercise: work, commuting, housework, yard work, childcare… Choose one, give it a couple of weeks, then reevaluate your progress. Have you read the Sexypants post? So much good "how-to" information:…

Your Fitbit burn is TDEE—way more accurate than any online calculator. The only way to gauge the accuracy of any device is to trust it for a few weeks, then reevaluate your progress. I eat back 100% of my Fitbit adjustments, lost the weight, and have kept it off for more than a year. But you still have to log everything…

Click on the adjustment in your exercise diary to see the math MFP used to calculate it. It will say how many calories MFP expects you to burn every day (activity level minus deficit) and what MFP thinks your Fitbit burn will be at 11:59 p.m. tonight.

Your adjustment changes throughout the day every time you sync your tracker, but if you delete a previous day's adjustment it's gone forever.

Taking thyroid hormones or insulin or statins is not a failure—it's a marvel. You can take these medications and feel better, be healthier, and live longer. I'm not saying don't try changing what you eat. But if you do and you still have high cholesterol, take the meds.

If you're losing 400 calories every night, verify you have both MFP & Fitbit set to the same time zone: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/timezone https://www.fitbit.com/user/profile/edit Did you recently connect your accounts? My adjustments were wonky at first but they got better—as if MFP was "learning" my routine.…

If (and only if) you enable negative calorie adjustments, you'll be eating TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) minus deficit. With them disabled, you never eat at a true deficit on days you burn fewer calories than your activity level. (But negative calorie adjustments never put your calories below 1,200.)

It sounds like you have an activity tracker connected to your account (like Fitbit). Look in your exercise diary for a calorie adjustment, and click on it to see the math MFP used to calculate it. It's the difference between your tracker burn & your MFP activity level (sedentary). Your adjustment changes every time you…

Your high cholesterol has nothing to do with your thyroid—and is less about your diet than genetics. I have vegan friends who take cholesterol meds.
