  • I think you need to split this down to smaller goals because of course 80lbs will seem very overwhelming. Maybe set yourself rewards for every 10lbs dropped? That will make it a lot more manageable. I think the first thing everyone needs to do when they decide to sign up here is to realise that weight loss takes time - it…
  • If you are eating LESS than your daily calorie allowance AND working out like a maniac AND not eating back your exercise calories your body is in starvation mode. No if's and but's, you are eating too little to sustain your body!
  • I didn't know he had a weightloss book? I may have to check it out. I have read the Paul McKenna "I Can Make You Thin" book and whilst it is very interesting [and well worth a read IMO] it didn't help me at all. I did however find a lot in the book resonated with me so I have since read it again - not as a weightloss tool…
  • Yep - last cig was on 8th May!!
  • I stopped smoking 12 weeks ago after reading Allen Carr's "Easy Way To Stop Smoking" and I have not gained a single lb. Granted I haven't actually lost anything either BUT I am pretty much at goal weight anyway (3lbs to go!) I didn't actually mean to stop smoking LOL, I had been given the book many years ago and as I felt…
  • I have different tips depending on the Cuisine but in general if you stick to the following food stuffs: Appetisers: • Juices • Clear broth-type, boullion, consomme, vegetable, lentil, bean or pea soups • Gazpacho • Vegetable gumbo • Tossed garden or spinach salad • Fruit • Steamed seafood • Peel and eat shrimp • Fresh or…
  • If you add breastfeeding to your food diary it minuses out calories in respect of nursing.
  • sorry - duplicated my post!
  • I kind of agree. I also think that there is a difference between using food as a reward and actually wanting to eat that 'slice of cake'. If you have successfully overhauled your lifestyle then you should still be able to occasionally have anything you want? The problem of course is when people cannot moderate their intake…
  • Indeed !! I have had to give myself a real kick up the bum this week as I so easily could have gone completely off the rails. My Mantra to myself has been * You know this lifestyle change works for you * You know you feel better when you eat well and exercise more * You know that you are here for the long haul * Don't give…

  • I agree with posters that say your hubby is an adult so he really should get a grip and at least try to find a few veggies / salad stuffs / fruit that he likes. He can of course still lose weight without increasing the amount of veggies he eats but personally salad and veggies are the biggest part of my daily food intake…
  • I was 134lbs when I started and the same height as you so I have always been on 1200. It doesn't matter whart I set my MFP goals too (1lb or 0.5lb) I am still on 1200 calories! I eat back my exercise calories though so on the days I do manage to exercise I eat anything between 1300 - 1500 depending on what I have burnt.
  • Here are a few pointers I could find online! Chinese Dining Chinese cuisine is typically a healthy option but high fat surprises lurk on every menu. By reviewing our recommendations and making low fat choices, you can enjoy a variety of Oriental specialities. Strategies Top 5 tips • Do not ask for prawn crackers or rice…
  • Unless you plan to never go out again you have to get used to eating out at some point. Granted it is best not to eat out too much (I limit myself to once per week, twice occasionally) and I wont eat out just for the sake of it. I make sure when I do eat out it is a treat. Chinese is not the most diet friendly cuisine. If…
  • Interesting - can I ask where you got this info? MFP puts you at lightly active if you are a nurse or work the shop floor but in your description above I would fall into lightly active (and get an extra 120 cals per day?)
  • I never manage to eat dinner before 8pm !!!
  • Wow - does this mean you'll never be able to go to a restaurant again?
  • If you have no self control at all then you will struggle but it is possible to go out to eat, pick healthy options and not feel deprived. Here are some things I try to do when I eat out... * Opt for just a main course (or even a children's sized portion if possible) * If I have more than one course I share my dessert and…
  • It has to be my OH! I have kept my weightloss quite private as I don't want to 'bore' anyone with it (most of my friends are pretty slim and not at all concerned with their weight!) other than that I am pretty much my own support network !
  • Eton Mess - a little cream, some halved strwberries and crushed meringue. Less than 120 cals.
  • I am thinking that I need to up my calories - 1200 is not working for me any more. It's scary though!
  • Yep - eat clean, drink lots of water and exercise in the days beforehand. Avoid anything that bloats you (alcohol always bloats me!) Pick a bikini or costume that suits you, but most importantly go along and have fun. I believe the statistics are something like only 2% of women are happy with how they look in a bathing…
  • Pretty much this. The 1229 cals was to lose but the 1530 is to maintain. I always eat my exercise calories so would continue to do so. I believe it is quite common to gain a little when you go to Maintanence
  • Everything in moderation? Diet is a horrible term - it implies that the "changes" are short term !!
  • After a terrible weekend (my worst ever since signing up here in Feb) I decided to really throw myself into things from yesterday! A new week, a new month seemed like a good time to get back into the driving seat so to speak !
  • Stop it now Mike otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts! I know that I can fluctuate by several lbs throughout any given day. There is nothing more demotivating that seeing a gain and for that reason alone I do not weigh-in daily. Start trying to limit yourself to every other day? But aim for once a week. Weigh at the same…
  • I've not had a baked potato since I signed up here (and I used to have them a few times a week) As a carb they are pretty high in calories for me (and I have to have them in a fair amout of olive oil and sea salt), I choose other more "efficient" carbs these days!
  • It depends on your body shape. Some people are naturally thin and have very boyish figures. I am not naturally thin - I have boobs and hips and want to keep it that way!
  • This weekend was bad, in fact it was the worst I have had in the whole six months I have been on MFP. BUT today is the start of a new week and I will take all the positives I can 1) I am very close to my goal weight 2) I am still a non smoker and have not gained any weight in the 12 weeks since I last smoked 3) I had a fab…
