Yeah, this. I was all ready to be annoyed by the article, but then the author made a bunch of valid points. Good advice in there for beginners, especially.

Damn vanity, giving me nightmares. *grumble*

We're almost done with this thread! I've seen some legit points here, and even though a lot of people interpreted this essay differently than I did, it's given me a lot to think about. Thanks for that. I can definitely see why this essay might disturb, sadden, and frustrate people. For the rest of you, well you know. :)…

Look, I don't think we should be celebrating the author's mental health issues, but what I think is important here is that she is finally refusing to be defined by other peoples' definitions of healthy and beautiful. She is getting help, she is working on these issues. She only 'quit' if your definition of healthy and…

This is cute.

Dude. People knocking at the door is no joke. Have you seen The Strangers?? haha. Seriously, someone knocked on my door the day after I saw that movie and I panicked, turned off the lights, turned off the TV, and called my husband from the bedroom. I have always been weird about answering the door (you know, because it's…

Okay, another weird thing: I am super paranoid about walking over manholes/sewer grates. Since I was a kid, I have been convinced that they will fall through as soon as I walk over them. I try to get over them quick if I have to walk over one. It's silly, but I can't be convinced otherwise!

Heights! Me too. I was fearless when I was a kid, but now that I understand how *dying* works...yeah, heights are not my friend.

Right. Also, adding photos....because look at those LEGS.

LOL! For years I was convinced that one day I would open up a stall, only to find a murdered corpse sitting on the toilet. Movies have warped my precious mind. :)

So as long as we're doing gross bug ones......

Totally had that one. I have teeth nightmares all the time. Sometimes they are loose and I try to push them back in, sometimes they come out and there are new teeth underneath. Occasionally they get knocked out in the dream, but usually they are super loose and falling out. Creepy! I hate it!
-
Knocking out my teeth. I have nightmares all the time where my teeth fall out or get knocked out, and it freaks me OUT. haha. I check daily to make sure they're not loose!

One of the best compliments that I ever got was from a student evaluation (I am a grad student, so I teach intro college lit courses): "one of the funniest and most personable teachers I have ever had. She made me enjoy English, which is usually my least favorite subject." So, that. I think I'm pretty funny and personable,…

This thread kind of got weird. lol

So, I haven't been here *that* long, but I can honestly say that I don't see this happening very often. Every once in awhile, someone will be a tool about lifting heavy vs. cardio, but most of the time, posters are just encouraging it because the OP is worried about how their body looks. It's not rocket science to say that…

Dun dun dun. Somebody's busted.

We can all be friends! See, everyone? MFP can be full of awesome people. :drinker:

In for the drama.

Recently I've been sucked into some of the more negative threads, but I am totally thankful for the gracious, awesome community here. People have been infinitely helpful and supportive when I have asked for advice or help. MFP has also inspired me to do a lot of research and reading about nutrition, calorie deficits, etc.,…

I log all day long, usually after I eat something. The only time I pre-log is if I know for sure that I'll be eating something later and I don't want to forget how much of everything I'm having. Example is when I pack a lunch for the next day and I log it right then while it's still fresh in my memory how many grams or…

MFP is an amazing resource. Counting calories (and weighing my food) has totally changed my outlook on portion sizes, and reading some of the helpful threads here have helped me figure out how much I should actually be eating. If you stick to it and don't kill yourself whenever you go over your calories, you'll do great!

You look great!

That picture!! Hahaha.

I am glad that other readers actually picked up on this. She's still a work in progress, and she's getting help for her issues. One of the benefits of getting help is being happy with yourself. It's kind of amazing that we're tearing her down for that.
