Check this link out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation Here's an excerpt So basically if you figure their numbers down to kilogram weights then at the low end you're looking at 3.563g/kg is the upper limit of what you can digest on a daily basis. So... some numbers for the not so math inclined... 100 lb =…

Yes you can get too much protein IF you get too little fat and other nutrients. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation That said, let me quote off that page: In other words, assuming you're healthy other than weight... if you weigh 80kg (176lbs) you can safely metabolize at least 285g of protein a day... EVERY day.…

Calories in vs calories out. I've drank a 2L of diet coke a day for a week at a time in addition to my normal calories and still lost the exact amount I expected to lose (eg: same as I'd have lost drinking water.) The artificial sweeteners aren't nutritious for you but they are generally regarded as safe by peer reviewed…

This is the harsh, but true answer. They're basically concerned that if you followed their general advice on exercise and such that you might die due to being unfit. Which is why the general advice on all diet programs and exercise programs say, "Consult a physician before embarking on a new diet and exercise regime."…

Yes. Absolutely, if it passes your mouth, it counts as whatever calories it has. Sub in any other word for olive oil... "Is it really necessary to count all the calories from __________ that I use?" Words: olive oil, sugar, bacon, soda, etc... You'd never ask that about bacon and it's LOWER calorie than olive oil. I tend…

Have you tried to juice a chicken breast? Try some soybean even... its absolutely horrific. Many of the high protein veggies do NOT juice well.

Because it's another "diet of the week" solution. It is NOT feasible for 99.99% of people on an ongoing basis and short term solutions just result in regain and juicing is worse than most. Drinking some juice in your diet isn't bad... I like some fresh carrot, apple, celery juice... sounds weird, tastes great! That said,…

QFT. Portion control is a huge issue for almost everyone I've met. Also- over counting calories burned is a huge issue as well.

Let me see, how to put this... I prefer girls with significant "junk in their trunk." or to say it another way, much like sir-mix-a-lot "I like big butts and I can not lie." You do not have a big butt. You have an average butt in both width and depth. You're a good looking woman with good proportions, don't stress it.…

Ignore it. People are afraid of change in others around them... that if they change size too much they won't be the person they know anymore. Sometimes they're not very wrong.... it changes the social dynamic and it also makes people self conscious of themselves. As someone who's lost many hundreds of pounds yo-yoing over…

Yeah, good luck with that. >_> Excess red meat consumption isn't great for you, but anyone blaming it for obesity hasn't bothered to read anything but vegan promotional blogs.

Nicotine isn't in and of itself harmful to humans - but it is addictive, the tar from the burning plant matter is another matter.

but but but its not organic that means its automagically bad for you!

Yes, however at least if it's peer reviewed and confirmed independently you have a lot better idea if the information presented is valid. The larger problem is, most of the radical claims AREN'T SUPPORTED in any way shape or form by any science. They're based off blog posts that agree with what a person wants to believe,…

"Excess" protein by most studies starts well above 30%... not 5-12%. Do you have studies to back up your "optimum" numbers that aren't biased? Could you post them please.

Eggs for breakfast, Greek Yogurt replacing sour cream or regular yogurt, and Lean Meats (turkey, chicken, fish), are a huge help! The powerbar with 20g of protein peanut butter isn't terrible tasting, but probably not as bio-available as some other proteins.... 210 calories.

Generally speaking you should be eating back SOME of those calories, if you ate them ALL back you'd likely gain weight because the calorie calculations are horrendously inaccurate. If you know you are going to be working out like that you should likely compensate during the day for the expected expenditure.

Ed is one of the good guys on here, he generally does his research and keeps current. Also a huge inspiration to a lot of us with a lot of weight to lose.

There is a lot of scientific study on the effects of aspartame, rather than rehash it all here, I'll just dump a link to the american cancer society and quote a bit of relevant information: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/athome/aspartame Basically, TL;DR - It's considered safe as long as you're…

Everything in moderation is a sane and healthy way to eat that is maintainable for most people. The problem comes when people aren't eating in moderation, they're eating everything in huge quantities. Edit: Nice website sales pitch there though. Think I'll pass on their diet plan/pills though.

I'd head more towards a normal ketogenic diet than atkins specifically were I going the keto route again. Personally, i find the restrictions hard to maintain long term so it's not necessarily the best of plans for me. On the other hand one of my friends has lost and kept off over 80lbs and for him it takes -0- effort…

I've lost 60+ lbs in 3 months (years ago) eating nothing but ****ty fast food (and I don't mean ordering the good stuff like salads) to prove a point to a cow-orker on a fast food is the root of all evil kick (nee: you gotta eat healthy to lose weight). As long as the calories are measured accurately (99% of the time what…

Oh man, I've had some doozies... I'd guesstimate upwards of 15-20k over a day? dozens of times in my life. I grew up on a farm and there were days I ate 15k calories for 4-5 days at a time and LOST weight (It's absolutely staggering what 13-14hours of stacking/throwing/mowing 80-90lb bales of hay in 95 degree weather…

There was a study (and I can't seem to find it at the moment -- sigh) done not too awful long ago and the summary was basically: 1) There is no difference in weight loss or recidivism rates between those who eat breakfast and those who do not normally. 2) The only time there is a difference is when someone who didn't eat…

There are a lot of people who believe you can't lose weight if you eat processed food. This is a falsehood. If you're highly diabetic of course, bread is a less good option. If you've got normal blood sugar, it's not terrible. That said, if it fits in your macros and calorie goals, it's fine. If it doesn't, it's not. All…

Exactly the same thing that causes women to cheat. Insecurity, lack of general decency, and being self-centered. I don't cheat, but I've known plenty of women who do regularly... several who have never been faithful more than a few months in any relationship. I've known guys who do the same. *shrug* Selfish idiots will be…

100lbs in 4 months, well lets do the math. 120 days, 3500 calories per lb, 100lbs. 350,000 calories / 120 days BMR - 2916.66 Calorie Deficit per day.... which unless you're morbidly obese or insanely active every day you really have no chance to hit it. Lets figure you're 260 lbs (160 goal, 100 lbs+) and 5'6"... 25 years…

Freeze it! :)

This. It's all about the calories when losing weight. As you get closer to goal weight it becomes more about the macros and maximizing your health in a given caloric range, but that's an evolution along the way. McD isn't as bad as many make it out to be though. People want to demonize them because of their own lack of…

Just as a heads up, you must have time to rest... 4x a day is a lot of exercise and once your weights start going higher you will need to do the recommended every other day to let you body have time to rebuild the muscle that is getting damaged (that is how muscle is built.)
