I've got two words for you: PRE. LOG. On weekends (or anytime you anticipate having a hard time keeping to plan), don't just log your food after you eat it. Plan what you're going to eat for the day and log it FIRST, THEN eat your plan. If you need some discretionary calories to eat unplanned treats for a flexible…

I pre-log my food everyday and PLAN for a treat at the end of the day. That way I'm not depriving myself, I have something to look forward to every day, and I have an incentive to follow my plan all day to make sure I don't have to take the planned treat away from myself.

y'all, cat food is totally in the MPF database. They have both wet and dry varieties of Hill's K/D food. ::barf::

hot cocoa with milk (not water); toast and nutella or peanut butter. Maybe a belt of scotch.

Am I right in understanding from this that you usually eat the same thing every day? If you are worried about getting enough nutrients then you should really be willing to mix it up. But anyway, here are some specific ideas of things you can add: 1. Do you like bell peppers? I do! Especially if I am not getting enough…

Does your doctor know that you'll be doing at-home yoga without the benefit of an instructor to watch your form and give you feedback? Because if you've got disc problems, yes proper form can strengthen your spine, but improper form can actually cause damage to the discs. Given existing back trouble, you really should be…

I have serious problems with stick-to-it-iveness too, if I let myself stop then it's crazy hard to start again. My "trick" as I want to try new things is that I don't replace my current routine with the new routine (at first). I keep doing my old routine while I "experiment" with the new routine as "extra exercise." Then I…

Fitnessblender.com (also a channel on youtube, but their own site is more easily searchable and has more info on each workout) has tons of workouts that will kick your *ss. Everything from beginner stuff, low impact stuff, up to gruelling tabata and HIIT workouts, plus some yoga and pilates and other stretches.

For what it's worth, my scale (a digital one, placed on a hard surface) does that too, though just by a matter of about 2 pounds. Just a matter of making sure I stand very still on it in the exact same position as much as possible every time for a consistent reading. It doesn't matter if the "heaviest" or the "lightest"…

Grown-*ss native speakers of English who don't seem to know the difference between possessive and plural s (there's no apostrophe in a plural noun, people! this is not advanced stuff!)

Hahahaha LOL remember everybody, disagreeing = unsupportive and is therefore REPORTABLE.

I, for one, am shocked -- SHOCKED! -- to discover there is sugar in Nutella! If I can't trust somebody's ADVERTISEMENTS to tell me what's healthy, then what CAN I believe? Also, won't somebody think of the CHILDREN?!?

Hmmm, something for me to ask my doctor about, I'm due for a visit soon.

48 tsp = 1 cup, which is a little on the sweet side for a 4 egg white (i.e. approx 2 egg) recipe, but not the worst I've ever seen. Considering there are chocolate chips in the recipe for even more sweetness, it seems like it would be safe to reduce the sugar by 1/3. Which, interestingly, would likely put the calorie count…

Yes, this. The thing is, sure it's possible to generate a "healthy" deficit and lose 2 pounds a week with diet alone. BUT it's a BUMMER, man! Raise your hands if a doctor or nutritionist has ever devised a meal plan that includes suppers frequently composed of "3 oz broiled skinless chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice, 1 cup…

I like them a lot, but would need to invest in an HRM to know if their calorie estimate is accurate. I assume it wouldn't be accurate for me, as I am way fatter than average.

Bump for the replies. OP, I'll share my experience in answer to your question about how long until you start seeing results, since I am also an exercise newbie and have have been monitoring my results with some interest. I am 43 yo and obese (currently at 299 pounds). Especially for someone who has never been into…

I'm in the same situation as you in that I'm trying to up my protein but would prefer to get it from eating food than drinking a food replacement. One thing I'm doing right now is making an Indian lentil / chicken stew that per giant (dinner-sized) bowl has 60 g of protein (!) with 528 calories and 11 g of fat. I eat a…

Eh, once I cut way back dairy fats (to control the bad saturated fats in my diet), I found that I have to work a little to keep my dietary fat levels up to a comfortable proportion. My MFP fat goal is set to 30%, but I often find I'm struggling to keep it up to 20% (which is my personal minimum -- I think anything below…

When I finally got my gallbladder taken out, the entire thing was crystallized and the size of a chicken egg. My doctors were legit IMPRESSED. Also, having gallstones without any symptoms is perfectly normal and does not normally require treatment or extreme lifestyle changes. But if you have pain, yeah, you're gonna have…
-
Do you have access to another doctor for a second opinion? Because I actually exacerbated my gallbladder problem by eating TOO LITTLE FAT (apparently a gallstone formed on the bile duct because it wasn't getting used enough, and more crystals formed from there). This was back in the 90s when people actually did try to…

Check the bagged salad area of your market to see if they sell broccoli slaw. If they don't, what you need are thick fresh broccoli STEMS, which you can julienne or -- better yet -- shred. I was surprised to find that peeled raw broccoli stems are themselves quite a tasty veggie snack (if you've ever tried raw kohlrabi,…

My thoughts on peanut butter are erotic ones. That's perfectly normal, right? RIGHT?

But you forgot the best one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ubVVnWglk&list=FLR-vlbSxTLOatZavwc8HcRg Tom Hiddleston is welcome to teach me about delayed gratification ANYTIME.

Hi Serena. You have certainly lost a lot of weight so far -- congratulations! It must feel wonderful to have achieved such success. From what I understand, eating at ANY deficit for a long period of time -- which you have -- will tend to suppress/damage the metabolism. So in addition to just plain spending fewer calories…

I think what he is getting at with "inaccurate" is not your height and weight, but users' goals and activity level. There's a general feeling among many of the most dedicated MFPers that the "sedentary" activity level is appropriate only for a very, very small minority of people. Yes, most of us work desk jobs, but most of…

Fat people know we're fat. We know it's unhealthy. And we know most people hate us for it. Seriously. So, do you think that internalizing that hatred is constructive and helps us get and stay motivated to get healthy? Or does it tend to make people hate themselves enough to keep being more and more unhealthy? "Everyone…
