Sorry, um, no. I'm not even sure what you're talking about 10 calories per gram -- gram of protein, or gram of protein-ish food? Because the former is simply untrue -- protein is 4 calories per gram -- and the latter is absurd. The amount of calories in a food by weight is going to be driven at least partly by whether it's…

No there is not a specific weight limit to how much the food you eat in a day should weigh -- that would be absurd. People who advocate weighing food do so in the interest of counting calories accurately. So if indeed you buy a package of food that says it is 300 g, but you weigh it and it's 400g, first of all SCORE, 33%…

I find just storing cut avocado with cut onion works just fine. There's a teeny bit of browning, but nothing to worry about. And browning doesn't affect the flavor. thekitchn.com/the-best-way-to-keep-cut-avocado-fresh-126950 FWIW, I never do any of those sweet dessert avocado things: it's always going on a sandwich or eggs…

I'm all for stricter logging for people who aren't seeing the results they expect, especially regarding portion control and scaling way back on eyeball guessing. That said, after 3 years of logging one thing I've learned is not to sweat it too much over weight variances with raw fruits and vegetables, eg apple cores.…

When I want a nutrition boost at night I get an english muffin (110 calories) with a little peanut butter (90 calories), and if I've got the calories for it, a half serving of fruit like banana, apple, or raisins on top. When I only care about protein (most days!) I eat plain greek yogurt with seasonal fruit for a night…

The idea that you "should" eat frequent small meals is a myth. The key is simply to find an eating pattern that helps you stick to your goal. Everybody is different. Some people find it easier to stick to their goal if they eat frequently but keep to smaller meals each time they eat. Other people find their goals easier to…

I used to be Class III obese. Of course I was self-conscious about it all the time. But. Here's some stuff to consider to maybe take the edge off: 1. Honestly, most people in the world have better things to do than even NOTICE you, much less "stare at" you. 2. However, yes, there is indeed subset of people in the world who…

I bought a scale 3 years ago that did this. I complained to the manufacturer and they were quick to suggest it was a flaw in the scale and they replaced it for me free of charge. New scale worked fine.

What is this even? What exactly have you got against those of us who read food labels? THAT'S WHY THE FOOD LABELS ARE THERE. We don't want to be dummies.

Yes, I dropped half a shoe size by losing weight. It probably happened after 60 lbs or so. My total loss ultimately was about 180 but I didn't keep dropping shoe sizes tho lol. Just the first one.

Undereating to the point of malnutrition is not healthier than eating a slice of pizza as I'm sure you can agree. No one is making you eat pizza and burgers or cookies or whatever other foods you have unreasonably demonized. It is easy to get to 1200 calories even if you're uptight about only eating "healthy" foods.…

I agree brown rice on the stovetop is tricky. Maybe the oven trick is okay for people who don't mind heating their whole oven up and are unwilling to get a rice cooker. But otherwise: RICE COOKER. Absurdly easy, foolproof, fewer dishes to clean, easy to clean, doesn't waste electricity or heat my whole kitchen up…

Talk to a doctor, not the internet, about your child's health. Also, be very careful to avoid making 13 yo girl overly body conscious. Girl have enough of that pressure and don't need it from their parents. Check your own motivations. Listen to your child's health professional on this topic.

Eyeballing will only get you in trouble. Measuring cups are better than eyeballing. Weighing is better than measuring cups. FWIW, weighing is easier and faster than measuring cups (at least, once you get the hang of it), so saying you "don't have time" for something you haven't even tried is not going to fall on super…

Savory bacon + cheese + corn + scallion pancakes, with BBQ sauce on top. {drops mic}

Greek yogurt. Read labels though since in the US that's not a protected term and anyone can call their yogurt "greek." Some manufacturers just put thickeners like gelatin in regular yogurt to make it thick, and that won't help you as much from a protein perspective. For a high protein yogurt you want a strained greek…

Generally speaking I just wouldn't sweat the sugar goal in particular. MFP's default is just so hard to achieve unless you really really care about it (seriously, if you're generally quite close to goal, then half a banana one day could throw you over, which is absurd). Unless your doctor has referred you to a nutritionist…

Most raw foods have more water in them than cooked foods. A chicken breast that weighs 6 oz before being cooked loses water and weight (but not calories) while being cooked, so it has a similar number of calories to a much lighter piece of cooked meat. It /becomes/ a much lighter piece of cooked meat -- it doesn't get more…

You didn't say how low your calories currently /are/ which could potentially make a difference in whether anyone tells you it's okay to cut your calories further. But assuming you set a reasonable calorie goal in the first place, then yeah, if you're finding that by cutting back drastically on carbs makes you naturally…

I've always had fantastic dental and oral health (magic teeth!). When I first moved to a new city, I started seeing this dentist who was referred to me by a colleague. The first time I went, the hygienist really brutally /hurt/ my mouth doing the cleaning. That had never happened to me before, but I shrugged it off…

1. Take advantage of your recent foods list, your favorite foods list, the "copy to date" function, the "copy from date" function to make sure that the foods you eat on the regular are logged consistently. 2. When you log a food that you know you haven't eaten before or recently (i.e., aren't in your recent foods list),…

OP: you've said you're over your "goal" for carbs and sugars, but haven't given us any information about what those goals are or how you arrived at them. Based on that I'm guessing you're just going with the defaults that MFP has given you and you have not gone in and manually tweaked your macro goals? If that is the case,…

I also love FitnessBlender to pieces, I've been using them for years. And yes, I also wonder what kind of assumptions they are using for their calorie counts, because I've used a variety of fitness trackers and HRMs for all their workouts and which tend to come in at half of what FB's low end estimate is. They give a range…

"Per chicken breast" is an extremely inaccurate way to log chicken breasts. I have bought chicken breasts that weigh in (raw) at 3 oz, and I have bought chicken breasts that weigh in at 18 oz. The average I get over the counter at my grocery (not packaged, but definitely not organic) is actually about a pound (very busty…

I am a former Class III obese person, having lost half my bodyweight, and I have kept if off for a year so far. I ate and continue to eat oatmeal and bread and corn and other cereals such as polenta or farro and bulgur. Eating those foods does not magically prevent weight loss. What can prevent weight loss? 1. Setting a…

I've been in maintenance for about a year too, and my shape has continued to change for the better (more defined facial features, abs, legs, bust leaning out and tightening up). Some of that could be unrelated to weight loss (e.g., I'm middle-aged so hormones; I only started working out 3 years ago after a lifetime fitness…

Doesn't it really depend on where you set your macros? Everybody does not follow the same goal proportions.

I found that when I wanted to gradually extend the length of my long runs, I got slower -- and not just on the long runs! So yeah, I'd suggest slowing down a bit for a while. Here's another thought: I don't know how many times a week you run and whether you change up your paces and rotate in different training types, but I…

lueece, are you certain you are experiencing muscle pain and not joint pain in the shoulder? Like, a twinging feeling when you move, as opposed to a meaty ache? Is it on both sides equally or one side only? Is it different on your dominant side than on your weak side? Sometimes I get joint pain in one of my shoulders…

Ah, you're right, I overlooked that. But I guess you didn't make it to my second sentence either, where it was made clear I was a lot more than her first sentence, since her comment about fist clenching was later in her post. We all make mistakes. Glass houses, dude.
