  • My first race this year will be Ironman Lanzarote in May, I was going to do a sprint in April but it filled up before I could enter. Looking forward to the race and scared at the same time as it's a tough one. Had a couple of rough months with family illness which meant I missed out on weekend training, but picking up…
  • Yes I was sprinting ( well race pace ) during the coached swim, no it's 11x25m then rest for 15 seconds, then 10x25m and rest for 15 seconds, then 9x.......so you only rest when you've done the 11 laps, 10 laps etc.. It's a tough workout, as you have 3 or 4 others in your lane and you are trying not get caught. Do you mean…
  • Hope the knee holds up well Drudo for your big week.
  • At the moment I'm doing two swim workouts a week - the first is purely for endurance. Warm up with 400m split into easy 100m, 100m kick, 100m pull, 100m easy. Then the main set with be steady 3000 - 3800m swim. 50m easy warm down. The second is a coached swim of an hour but last week the main set was…
  • Good luck Leesseebee. I hit all my targets this past week and came in at 11 hours of training topped off yesterday with my longest ride of the year at 65 miles. This week, work and family commitments will get in the way a bit so I'm going to have to take each day as it comes but by the end of the week I should have at…

  • Sounds like good goals, mine this week is all about the bike and getting my fitness built up 12 weeks out from Ironman. I've also now gone 1 week without coffee, which for me is a lifetime first! Here we go: Monday: tempo run 30 mins Tuesday:1 hour turbo pyramids Wednesday: 3000m swim and 1 hour run intervals Thursday: 45…
  • Good luck everyone with going long - it's a magical feeling when you cross that finishline and realise what you've just achieved. Did my first in 2007, less than 12 months after doing my first sprint - have now completed 3 Ironman races. Currently training for numbers 4 and 5 which I'll do 5 weeks apart this summer. First…
  • Well done on joining a club - tap into that expertise, and enjoy the friendship and competion that will drive you forward to get fitter and faster. Training with others is a great motivator.
  • cool good luck with the halfs ( love that distance ). Whcih Ironman are you doing then?
  • Hi All, Andy, 38 from the UK. Always struggled with my weight, no where near as heavy as I used to be but not nearly as light as I'd like to be ;-) Did my first triathlon in 2006 as a bet with a work colleague. Loved it, it was a sprint, went home and entered an Ironman ( as you do ). I did my first Ironman race in…
  • Just wanted to say Good luck.
  • I'm from the UK and will be doing two Ironman races this year amongst other things. Keeps me out of trouble. Never wanted to be a triathlete, only did a sprint as a bet with a work colleague and got hooked. Signed up to do my first Ironman withing 12 months. I do all distances from sprint upwards.
  • Good luck - which one are you doing? You'll love it. I'm doing numbers 4 and 5 this year with a 5 week gap in between. Did my first sprint triathlon as work bet, got hooked and did my first ironman 11 months later. Yep - nuts!
  • Agree with Drudo that eventually you'll need to do "brick" sessions where you combine two disciplines into one training session - last 1 hour bike and a 20 min run. I'd also advise that you visualize / practice your transition in your garage / back yard - just to get used to how you lay equipment out making it easier and…
  • Also extremely important with wetsuits that you get the correct size. Too small and you might get choked as well as not being able to complete your stroke properly. Too big and you'll take on too much water and lose bouyancy. Don't think anyone has mentioned lock laces/elastic laces - quicker transitions and you don't have…
