  • The less you have to lose, the slower it comes off. A 2 lb loss in a month is a good loss. That is 1/2 lb per week and is a good healthy amount. Hang in there and be patient. You can do it!
  • Thanks! I haven't really felt like a runner but I have been running further and further than I ever thought I could. When a friend of mine asked me if I was going to go jogging I remember thinking, no way, I don't jog, I run... but I wasn't ready to say it yet  . Soon, I will!
  • Hi, I'm new to Bridge to 10K. I did my first 5K on January 1, 2014 and have been training for 10K since then so I guess that's my January/February goal. My first 10K is March 9 and I can't wait. I did download the Gipis app that you all have recommended for the training plan and am enjoying it so far...although it does…
  • That's so awesome. You inspired me to take a look... 38.9 miles. Nowhere near 100 but I started in October 2013 so I expect to have a 100 mile month soon :). Way to go! Keep up the running!

  • Why not go half and half? One slice of bread and half of that Kit Kat. Then you get the best of both worlds... more fiber to fill you up and more chocolate since life always demands more chocolate!
  • Way to go! I just ran mine on January 1! Pretty awesome accomplishment. Now you deserve a pedicure!
  • Great ideas on here! Thanks.
  • Thanks for letting us know about this. I was already planning on running on Saturday but this is a great cause to highlight. What a beautiful family and a sad story.
  • Don't feel guilty for wanting to make a healthy change in your life. It will give you SO many more Enjoyable years with your husband! And we need to make time for ourselves! As to fitting it all in, it does seem overwhelming at times but the key is to make the time for YOU. You will be so much happier and healthier for it.…
  • You can try pre-packing some good snacks so when you do get the urge, you have something ready and portioned out. You can also try going for a walk or doing some activity that distracts you from the boredom and stress so you don't reach for food.
  • I just RAN my first 5K on January 1. I finished at 34:03. Amazing. I was so thrilled to finish. However, I never really got to that awesome feeling where the running starts feeling better and better (like I have during my regular runs), but I think part of it was the gradual and then more painful incline at the finish. I…

  • Way to go! It's a great feeling! Keep it up! I finished C25K two weeks ago and have been working on running faster now... I'm also hanging around the 12 min mile mark give or take... my first 5K is on New Year's Day! Can't wait!
  • There are several insanity groups. Go to the groups forums and you can find tons of people! I was gonna include the link but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Good luck! I am dying to try it too but my apartment is way too small for it right now and am waiting until I move.
  • Wow... that was pretty funny. Even if he hadn't won any races, why would you ask a runner if they've ever run before?! Unbelievable.
  • I just finished C25 K this week! It's a great feeling knowing how I struggled when I first started. I signed up for my first 5K for January 1. Can't wait to get out there and RUN! I think I will start the 10 K training after that... just trying to decide which app to use for my training. I've heard good things about…
  • I like Strava for tracking my runs. I also like RockMyRun and FitRadio to vary my music. Still exploring other apps. Love the ideas!
  • It is so worth it! I love having more energy to play sports with my daughter! If you can, get a jogging stroller. Then you can take her with you when you go! All you need is 30 minutes...and it will make a big difference in your mood and energy, which is always important when dealing with a baby  Good luck and go for…
  • It's been 20 degrees or less in DC and I like to run along the water where it gets extra windy. I find that putting a hooded windbreaker on top of my running gear makes a HUGE difference in my comfort. With that, my under armour fleece pants, and long sleeved shirt over t-shirt, I was quite comfortable. Good luck to you. I…
  • I like to have a small snack of nuts (100-120 calories) about 30-60 minutes before my workout and then have a regular meal afterward. It gives me enough energy to make it through the run but not weigh me down. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:
  • Awesome ideas. Thanks!
  • I'm at the same point in C25K and have started experiencing hip flexor pain too. I'm definitely trying out these stretches. Thanks for the timely advice!
  • I didn't think I could be a run, although I've always been a walker... I'm on week 7 of C25K and running great. I think anyone can build up to running, but it's certainly not for everyone -- I'm just talking interest here. Having good running shoes designed for your feet is important. You can go to a running store and get…
  • If you like using apps, FitRadio and RockmyRun are good and have many free playlists of high tempo songs, grouped by genre... Good luck! :flowerforyou:
  • Fantastic story. Very inspirational! Thanks  :flowerforyou:
  • I went running today. It's 36 but feels like 29 with the wind. I have to say I'm not sure I can run in colder weather than this... I decided I need warmer leggings and gloves...maybe that will help me handle colder, I'm just not sure. :noway: :grumble:
  • Protein bar recipes sound great!
  • I'm up to 1.5 minutes...on my way to 5 minutes by the end of the month. For the person who mentioned how you build up to doing more, I'm doing a 30 day fitness plank challenge that has you start at 20 seconds and do a little more every day to work up to 5 minutes, resting every 5 days. Check out 30dayfitnesschallenges.com…
  • Thanks for all the great ideas. I'm investigating different reflective devices since running at 6 am or 5:30 pm, it is pitch dark and most of my clothing is black and not reflective. Do you prefer getting a vest or using the reflective tape or other options? Just curious about what would work best. Thanks!
  • That's what I was thinking of! Thank you! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
  • No, it was an "official" study following people's eating throughout the day... Thanks though!
