  • I actually went UP my first few weeks. Give it some time; a week really isn't that long. After peeking at your profile, I see you're looking to lose 26 pounds. That tells me that you're probably not severely overweight. The closer we are to a healthy weight, the slower the weight come off (in many cases). For reference, it…
  • It's my understanding that most HRMs are not designed for that. They don't really give you an accurate measure of calories burned when you're not working out. However, there are several online calculators out there to find your TDEE (and most are quite accurate).
  • Since you mentioned it... I, too, am a seventh grade teacher. While I have (sadly) never ninja-bombed a student, I HAVE threatened some of them. Of course, I always remind them that, "Chick farts are nasty." I will often also point out that that I ate beans the previous evening. LOL
  • You know what they say about people who can't take a joke? Screw 'em!!! Good luck getting someone fired because your kid said they smell "stank azz," lady. Wow... just wow...
  • 1000 calories a day PLUS exercise isn't healthy. It's just not. Do you want to do this the healthy/safe way or not? It took me two years to lose 20 pounds because I did it the healthy way. Your choice, I guess...
  • If a kid's bored, moving them forward can sometimes help the issue. I would NEVER suggest moving a kid back due to lack of homework completion. As far as moving him ahead, I'd have some reservations. How can I tell what a kid knows if they don't do anything? It's a tricky situation.
  • I teach 7th grade. My advice would be to, as much as possible, focus on the positive. If he does one assignment, give him 15 minutes of screen time. If he does two, give him 20 minutes. Baby steps...
  • My plan for the new year is as follows: 1) worry more about me than others (new or otherwise) - nothing new here, but always good to keep in mind 2) befriend the "noobs" so as to help keep them motivated since WE ALL KNOW THAT THE BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY IS THE HARDEST PART 3) try not to get too sad when some of them…
  • This. Making changes to one's lifestyle can be difficult. Not to mention that they pay their gym fees as well.
  • It's not about "Santa." It's about believing in the magic of the season. Tell him whatever you want, but remember that if you tell him Santa's not real he'll likely tell all his friends. Then you'll have to deal with their parents. Read "The Autobiography of Santa Claus" as told to Jeff Guinn. It's amazing, and set up to…
  • This makes ZERO sense... both in reference to the OP as well as grammatically. If you don't believe in counting calories and don't need to lose weight, the why are you on this site?
  • One of my best friends teaches belly dancing. She is by no means overweight.
  • Yes. Seriously... well, 1270 actually. I'm only 5'1" and my TDEE is under 1700. If I want to lose 1/3 to 1/2 pound a week, I need to eat between 1200 & 1300 a day. Would I suggest this for my husband? Of course not! However, it works for me (slowly, but it works nonethless).
  • butter, unsalted
  • 1) faith in humanity restored 2) excellent point
  • Are you sure it's insects and not vermin? That being said mothballs might work, but they stink. You could also get some peppermint essential oil, apply it to some cottonballs, and place in/around your shoes & skates in storage. Peppermint deters insects, bats, mice, moles... the list goes on.
  • Losing a pet is tough, there's no denying it. I'm so sorry for you and your precious puppers. The only advice I can give is to hug and love your GSP as much as humanly possible and do what's best for her. ((hugs))
  • The good news is that if it currently zips, you're SOOO close! All you need to lose is a few inches. Maybe that'll help motivate you. Think of inches you need to lose and not pounds. :flowerforyou: You got this!!!
  • I count deep cleaning, not the daily/weekly stuff. If I'm lugging the vacuum up & down that stairs, scrubbing like a maniac, and generally working up a sweat, I count it. I wear my HRM when I deep clean to get a better idea of calories burned.
  • I weigh every morning and log on a calendar so I can keep track of fluctuations. I log ALL losses on here (even 0.1 pounds), and any gains over 3 pounds (I've found that's my "normal" fluctuation amount).
  • During the school year (I'm a teacher), I try to get up at 4:45 to work out. It doesn't always happen, though. Sometimes I do an after dinner workout, but that's not usually my best effort. :blushing: Summer, when I'm home, it's whenever I can fit it in. When I teach summer school, it's generally early-mid afternoon.
  • My day is almost complete. I now must eat my summer sausage sandwich. mmmmmm... porky-fatty-goodness

  • Perhaps it's a financial issue. As I was losing weight, I found myself sometimes wearing things that were too big because I couldn't always afford to buy new.
  • Oh, man! My tummy hurts from laughing! Thanks for the ab workout, everyone!:drinker:

  • First of all, it's only one day. It won't ruin your entire journey. Secondly, just be "good" the rest of the day. Eat well, and maybe get some exercise. We all make mistakes.
  • When I carpool... I drive about 300 miles every two weeks. I drive a '06 Cadillac STS. I spend about $100/month on gas. I know a more efficient vehicle would save on gas, but I live in Wisconsin and drive "country" roads to work. I need something with some weight to it that handles well when the roads are slick. When I…
  • You could always buy them to fit in the legs and have them altered to fit better in the waist.
  • I don't know... Have you ever dug in the ground to this extent? This is far more strenuous than yard work. I wore my HRM shoveling snow a few months back. I burned almost three times what MFP calculated, and soil is heavier than snow...
  • I would add that brand name has an impact on fit as well.
  • I had gotten to the point where most of my clothes didn't fit me. I spent and entire spring & summer with ONE pair of shorts that fit and ONE pair of capris that fit. I refused to buy new ones. At 5'1" with a small-medium frame, going up a size was NOT an option for me.
