1,000 over my target, 500 over my TDEE. I have been on target for most of the week, and I expect to be on target for the rest of the week (no big leftovers at my house), so I should still lose weight overall.

This article from Runner's World, "Running v. Walking: How Many Calories Will You Burn?" (http://www.runnersworld.com/weight-loss/running-v-walking-how-many-calories-will-you-burn), concludes that the burn from running is about 50% higher than from walking: 158 calories vs 110 calories for the sample person cited. So…

I have that problem. The sun goes down, I start to eat, and then I just don't stop eating until I have consumed a couple thousand calories. I rarely have a problem during the day; it's always in the evening. One way I combat it is by eating at specific times each day, with those times get closer together in the evening. I…

Stomach line? Does your stomach live around here? What sign is your stomach? Does your stomach come here often? Oh wait, that's not what you meant. Never mind.

I thought women were supposed to wear them once and then sell them on E-Bay. Maybe I've been bidding too much....

I saw Santa at the mall, and I asked him to take away my fat. He said he only GIVES things, he never takes them away.

Several pounds up and down all day. I drink a lot of liquid in the morning, and I can gain several pounds before lunch. A couple of visits to the bathroom and I pee away the pounds! Overnight, I can lose as much as 4 or 5 pounds, depending on what I ate for supper and how quickly my body breaks it down.

OK, something is wrong here. First, you are probably confusing BMR (basal metabolic rate) with TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). Second, it seems unlikely that your TDEE is 2595 if you are sedentary unless you are much heavier than your picture suggests. When I started, I weighed 251 and my TDEE was around 2350. You…

Step 1: Log everything. The only way to change your eating habits is to document your eating habits, so you can figure out what needs to change. Step 2: Make some simple changes. Once you are logging, you will see some things that have more calories, or too much fat, or otherwise mess up your eating habits. You don't need…

This is pretty much what I did. I walked in the park one day for about 10 minutes, with no plan or thought of doing it every day. I came back a week later for another 10 minutes. Until I found myself coming back a couple times per week, and walking about 20 minutes. And then I realized I was coming back several times each…

I don't take cheat days, but I do find every so often that I have way more calories than my target. I had two of them this week, on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, we had a team lunch so I didn't really control the food choices, so I ended up with more carbs, and then more carb cravings. On Friday, I seemed to be just…

It doesn't really matter how I dress at work -- most of the guys wear jeans -- so I really only worry about whether they get uncomfortable. My pants were pretty much falling off before I went to the Thrift Store and picked up 2 smaller pairs. But I am on my third belt. This one is a stretchy mesh that doesn't have any set…

Please fill out your profile. Lots of people try to Friend others who have something in common -- age, weight loss goals, where you live, what you do for a living, hobbies, etc.

Remember that 3500 calories = 1 pound. So 400 calories twice, or 800 calories total, is not even 1/4 of a pound. You could go over by 400 calories every day for a week and still not be up a pound. You want to recognize the days that you go over, but also recognize how small the impact really is.

Well Zack clearly got the first shove and the first punch. Slater tossed Zach like a bag of flour and gets the takedown. Zach gets the escape. The teacher showed up way too soon before the fight really got going. On points, it probably goes to Zack, but if it had continued, it seems likely that Slater would have pummeled…

Not return any of them to Mall Security. I have a more cynical view of Mall Security than the rest of you seem to have. I expect that the folks at Security would just take the money. If the owner actually shows up, Security would say "It came back with no money" and the owner would never be the wiser. So I would probably…

I've been watching Christmas movies recently. (Tis the season...) In several of these movies, the lead female character finds herself in love with a man who already has a girlfriend. Indeed, the male lead is often engaged to some other woman. The moral of all of these stories is that the lead female character should forge…

You need to log fruit and veggies along with everything else. If I eat 1 apple, 1 banana, and 1 orange, I have consumed between 200 and 300 calories. Do that over 7 days and you have 1500 to 2000 extra calories. Not losing weight? No wonder.

I like bread, and I have struggled to keep it in moderation and not destroy my macros. Fortunately, I came upon a great bread -- Mahler's Flax-Soy low carb bread for diabetics. It has GREAT macros -- 85 calories, 10 protein, 3 fat, 6 carbs (5 fiber 1 sugar). They also have a variation of that bread with Cinnamon and…

For the same calories, you should have the same weight effects. For me, though, when I eat carbs, I tend to crave more carbs, and then I crave even more carbs after that, and I end up eating a lot more. So for me, the point is not that it's low carb, but that it's high protein and fat. With protein and fat, I stay full, I…

It is common to lose weight faster at the beginning because you lose water, muscle, and glycogen in addition to losing fat. You have gone through those things now, so later weight loss will likely be much slower. Don't compare your first 3 weeks result with any later results. There are some who insist that 20% below TDEE…

Hi BK, 3500 calories = 1 pound. MFP just calculates your caloric deficit based on the weight loss pace you stated in your profile: 2.0 pounds per week = 7000 calories = 1000 calories deficit per day 1.5 pounds per week = 5250 calories = 750 calories deficit per day 1.0 pound per week = 3500 calories = 500 calories deficit…
