You can use what MFP sets them at until you've done enough research to know how you want to set them in the custom settings. A lot of ppl go with a 40/30/30 split... 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein.

As far as "the different things you should have every day", that's where your macros come in (carbs, protein, fats, etc...). These help you figure out where you're doing well and where you need more or less of whatever type of food.

Hey! I'm also working on losing 100 lbs., down 25 so far. The key for me has been to take a moderate calorie deficit instead of dropping really low, then eating about every 3 hours or so. I've been dropping around 1-2 lbs per week. You can do this!

It WILL work! But do yourself a favor and if you can possibly avoid it DO NOT weigh yourself for at least 6 weeks. You may actually gain at first if your body has experienced some metabolic slow down and/or hormonal shifts. It is temporary and should drop off quickly. Best of luck to you!
