No, but weight can be a very inaccurate way to measure fat loss
-
Low carb ate 79 calories per day less than low fat. Study lasted 1 year, so the total difference in calories consumed for the year is 28835 28835 / 3500 = 8.23 lbs. Actual difference between the two groups was 7.8 lbs So the math actually comes in very close, and in fact favors the low fat group by a very small margin.

I'm not sure it's really wise to make such a blanket statement, when the quality and intensity of for-sale workouts can vary so much. And in the long run, buying a few DVDs that can be used for years is significantly cheaper than paying monthly dues to a gym. While I get where you're coming from regarding weight training…

Would it be possible to add more exercise to the mix? I don't know if you're exercising at all right now, but you could add getting to eat another 300 - 500 calories a day could be very worth spending 30-45 minutes/day exercising.
-
So you rag on people who want a "quick fix", but then state in your profile that you gained 41 lbs of muscle in 24 short weeks, using some secret method that's not told about in mainstream fitness literature. Sounds legit.
-
Yeah, I'm doing this with my lifting now. It's definitely intense and effective. And the fact is, even though I'm eating just slightly below maintenance, my recomping is going faster then I would have expected.
-
Okay, there are some errors in this statement that need to be cleared up. If you're "eating at maintenance or even slight surplus" then you will stay the same weight or go up. So if you're losing fat, and your weight stays the same or goes up, then what's taking the place of the lost fat? If you can't gain muscle while…

I would disagree. For those whose bodies don't naturally regulate eating at a healthy weight, counting calories is just as good an idea as keeping a financial budget. For me personally, having pretty much reached my goal, I find that keeping track of my intake actually gives me more freedom than if I didn't. Whatever I…

First, to the OP, I'm curious... Your ticker says you have 25 lb to lose, but looking at some of your profile pics, you look about as trim as anyone could hope to be. Are those pictures current representations of where you are now? And if so, are you really trying to lose another 25 lb? In the bigger picture, I can see how…

Hey, do you have any inside thoughts on the fighter within? I was really interested, but the reviews have not been good. But the same was true for the fight: lights out, and that game has been one of my primary workouts for quite a while. I'm wondering if the bad reviews for fighter within was just another case of the…

Here's my routine. It seems to fit the criteria you're looking for. For starters, I have two 50lb adjustable dumbbells (stairmaster twistlock). I also have a few small fixed dumbbells (5, 10, and 20) and a pair of 5lb ankle weights that I put to use here and there. Also, I do dropsets for everything, which is where you do…

I hate to say it, but it would seem that your research method needs improvement. There's tons of scientific, study-based data out there. And absolutely none of the points you've listed are in any way necessary, or even beneficial, to lowering body fat. Sorry.

Actually, wearing fins will increase the resistance, giving a higher burn over the same length of time swimming.

Yeah, I think weighing daily is a good idea for a couple of reasons. It is less discouraging to see the number bounce up a little knowing that tomorrow it could bounce right back down. Rather than feeling like an entire week's worth of work was for nothing, it's more like a one day setback. After a while, seeing the scale…

First, anyone saying that some specific exercise exercise burns a specific number of calories is not taking into account the weight of the person doing the exercise. That's like saying a motorized vehicle gets 40 miles per gallon. Way wrong for a dump truck, and just as wrong for a Vespa. But just about right for a honda…
-
Why not? I do sit ups to work my abs, just like I do curls for my biceps, overhead presses for my shoulders, etc.
-
I would get the new one. If the number on a scale matters to you, than an inconsistent scale is only going to bring frustration in the long term. So what if this scale gives you a number higher than your current one. That doesn't mean you've lost less weight, just that according to your friend's scale, your starting weight…

MFP does take your weight into account. Not sure what gave you the impression it didn't.

The gazelle has no resistance built in. My brother in law has one, and just for kicks I got on it when we visited him for new years and gave it a try. It's way too easy. Once you get moving, the momentum takes over and you can just keep going with almost no effort. A cheap elliptical could be a better chioce, but as…

I should also add that I have been eating back my exercise calories. This makes it a lot easier, even when my base calories for the day approached 1200, because I exercise almost every day, and was eating more in the range of 1700-1800.
-
When I started with MFP, I was at 220 and wanted to get to 175, so that was 45 lbs. I started at 2 lb/week, and had no problem keeping that up. At 195, I changed it to 1.5 lb/week, and then at 180 I went down to 1 lb/week. The two weeks of Christmas and New Years I basically just maintained, but I'm just 3 lbs. from my…

While I don't want to push a one size fits all mentality, I think you're missing my point. As a species, we all need the same basic components to survive. Pick any human, completely deprive them of vitamin C, and you'll get the same result. No exceptions. What I'm really trying to say is that filling your stomach with…

Yes. And to add another layer, try to think of it this way. Feeling full isn't the answer. Feeling satisfied is. And that happens when you give your body the nutrients (both macro and micro) that it needs, even if you're eating less calories than you burn.

I've been using the PS3 since late May. Mostly with The Fight: Lights Out and Move Fitness, but also a bit of Sports Champions 2. It's been very effective. I really wish there were more competitive games available. I'm not really that interested in one's that just make you do a set workout. That' boring to me, and I could…

Okay, I guess that could make sense, although this is the first time I've ever heard that concept. But if this whole concept is correct, wouldn't that mean it would be impossible to burn fat without exercise?

There's something wrong with this. Glycogen stores last a lot longer than 1-3 minutes. the liver alone stores somewhere between 50-100 grams of glycogen (depending on which source is correct). That equates to between 200-400 calories. When endurance athletes talk about "hitting the wall", that's due to glycogen depletion.…

Sorry, but this photo comparison doesn't carry any weight. Considering the dramatically different lighting, and the lack of any real change to the silhouette, they could have been taken hours apart rather than months. Don't take this as any kind of insult, you certainly look fit enough. It's just that looking at these two…

I'm actually loving it. I love the control I have, knowing that I can eat great tasting food and not worry about gaining weight. I love the fact that if I want some kind of extra treat that doesn't fit into my calorie allowance, I can earn it by exercising. I'm really into cooking (especially gourmet), and I love coming up…
