I watch Netflix on my phone while doing cardio. While doing strength training I just listen to music. It doesn't distract from the fact that you are working out, but it does help pass the time instead of just staring at a spot on the wall for an hour.

I am also from Chicago and trying to lose. Have not been doing the greatest. My weight keeps going up and down even though I am working out 4-5 days a week. Hopefully all the snow we had and all the shoveling the past couple days will help me next time I get on the scale

Well the fitbit measures steps, not distance. If you take a lot of quick but short steps that keep your heart rate up but don't cover a lot of distance, the fitbit should still be pretty accurate.
