I use Optimum Nutrition whey protein and casein protein. It's one of the best values I've found. The casein protein is about $1 per serving and the whey protein is about $0.77 per serving. MetRX is also fairly inexpensive.

I know this post is a bit old, but I just fell in love with these. I also like Hansen's Diet Soda. Amazon has the variety pack of the Sparkling Ice for $7.75, which is about $4 cheaper than local grocery store

I hope you find a way to feel better. Losing excess weight is definitely a good start. It's good to start out making small changes. The other stuff will come with time.

I might get criticized for this, but when I first started out, I used caffeine pills to help with hunger. Eventually I got comfortable with feeling hungry, though.

Add a tablespoon of baking soda to make it easier to peel.

I like the reduced fat wheat thins. 130 calories for a decent size serving. Something salty and crunchy with a little bit of fiber.

Mix chia seeds into greek yogurt.

Start with small changes. Unless you have an underlying medical condition, don't radically change your diet, just cut back on how much you eat. Cut your calories now and worry about adding exercise when you've lost some weight.

I've used spiral cut cucumber and it has a similar texture. I found it was too low in calories, though.

Isolate means the protein has been isolated, rather than just concentrated. Both soy and whey protein can be isolated. A protein isolate has the most protein per gram. It's almost pure protein. My unflavored whey protein isolate is 25g protein for a 28g serving.

I think it's good to fit things you like into your diet. I do find that apples help control my sweet tooth, though.

Ricotta cheese is basically the same as cottage cheese with smaller curds and less sodium. 1/2 cup has 14 grams protein. Mix in some fruit or instant pudding.

If you are getting all your calories and nutrients, awesome. But you said you are eating once a day "if," which makes it sound like you don't eat every day.

An activity tracker with a continuous heart rate tracker will give you a relatively accurate calorie burn for the whole day. If you just want to track exercise, you can get a HR strap with a watch fairly cheap and it will be the most accurate.
