  • T R Y  Remember the "Little Engine that Could"? If you listen to music, find something that gets you going. Whether its a ballad or rap song. Also, eat/drink right and sleep. The more rested and fueled you are, the more likely you will be thinking positively. It's mental as well as physical. The best motivation you…
  • Sure. If the barbell falls on top of you. Seriously though, failure probably doesn't cause the injuries. Lack of common sense is the most common cause. For instance, just starting a workout plan and trying to heavy of a weight.
  • Failure is reaching the point where the muscles can no longer produce enough force to complete the activity. Fatigue is similar, but I would attibute it more to a "lack of sleep" feeling all over. It probably is a mental thing as well. You know those times you go to work out and you 're just "too tired"?
  • The main guy from Dexter... Michael C. Hall. I've not seen the show, but I'm guessing it had to do with my hair color. *quickly googles dexter* Guess he's not hideous. Great. People think I look like a serial killer.... I think you need a giant, uncombed beard to complete that look though.
  • Check out http://www.jefit.com/exercises/triceps/ . Tricep extensions of any variety will tone those up for you.
  • That is the biggest complaint I hear from people who drink diet sodas. A friend of mine's blodd sugar plummets if he drinks diet coke and then does anythign physical. I can't believe that artificial sweetners are a good thing in the amounts that some consume. Personally, I limit artificial sugars more than real sugars.…
  • What are your stats (height, weight, age, etc)? And less cardio. I workout 6 days a week. Only one of which is all cardio. The other 5 days I get on the treadmill prior to help warm up my muscles and get the heart rate going. But my goal is muscle building not fat loss. Figure out what you want out of your workouts and…
  • Good advice here. Green, white/silver leaf teas are much more delicate. Brew them right and you'll enjoy it much more. I like Octavia Ginger Peach myself (its a white tea). I buy it loose so I can brew it to my own strength. For those concerned with caffiene, check out the chart from Octavia:…
  • Yes it's a fad and no I'm not against it at all. I think the concepts of the diet are great. Who can argue against eating less/no processed foods? In fact, my diet is very similar. Those that argue "lifespan" aren't taking into account medicine. We've come a loooong way since then. In the end, do what works for you.…
  • Seems to be an influx of "paleo" threads lately. As with any fad diet, it doesn't work for everyone. The concept is great though: don't eat processed foods, sleep, fatty acids + protein + unrefined veg/fruit/nuts, etc.. Personally, I try to stay away from these diet crazes. I know what works well for me (lots fo trial &…
  • You sure you don't have something in your teeth? Maybe some toilet paper stuck to your shoes?
  • As far as heel striking goes, it's best not to try for it. However there's enthusiasm of people who run that way very well. The key again is shoes. Shoes that work for heel striking typically have a very padded heel whereas midfoot or ball striking will have less of a heel. Again I can't stress enough how important it is…
  • Ask your OB/GYN. A quote from the wife's OB/GYN, "It took you 9 months to gain that weight. You won't lose it overnight". Patience. You aren't far off from your target.
  • I eat bread. Whole grain when possible. But I don't eat as much as I used to that's for sure. Peanut butter toast is one of my snacks. ;)
  • First, slow down run/walk. They won't get better if you continue. Also, new shoes aren't always the right shoes. I'd visit a local running shop and have them take a look. Lots of people buy the wrong shoes for their feet. Not such a big deal for everyday shoes, but running is a while 'nother story. Again, slow it down. I…
  • 2300mg for people under 51. 1500mg for 51 and over, black, high blood pressure, kidney issues, etc.. Sodium is still needed. It helps maintain fluid balance and it's an electrolyte. But there's a surplus of sodium in just about everything these days. That's even more true with "diet" foods. They takes the fats out (aka…
  • Sundays are the "cheat" days in our house. You have to reward yourself once in a while. Just have to remember that once & a while isn't every day.
  • Just popsicles? You will lose weight, but I imagine you'll feel pretty run down. The week after you'll likely put back on some of the weight. There is no easy way out.
  • That's key right there. Feed yourself the right foods and you'll be amazed at what your body does with them. The wife is always giving me a hard time for eating as much as I do. But what I eat is what my body seems to love (lots of chicken, tuna, salmon, oatmeal, etc). And like some mentioned, take a minute to learn about…
  • I wouldn't weigh in everyday. Once a week at the most. That aside, take pictures of whatever parts you're trying to improve. You'll feel even better when you reach your goal.
  • I wouldn't eat them if I were solely focused on running. There's much better options out there with grains + protein. That said, I eat the PowerBar Harvest Energy bars and Pure Protein bars. I eat 2-3 a day as snacks. Just have to make sure you're doing "something" along with this. They aren't a low cal snack.
  • As suggested above, check out www.bodybuilding.com. It's a great resource and its not just for meat heads. ;) And yes, you will need to up your calories. Just make sure you eat good calories. Oreos won't help. ;) Here's a beginner's routine that's easy to work with: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843…
  • It's also not just about how much protein. The kind of protein matters too. Just tossing that in as well. I don't like almond milk. I've tried a couple brands (Silk & Blue Diamond). I do like the flavored soy milks. Those are great in cereal. But on a day to day basis, I use skim milk. Mostly for cereal/oats. My coffee is…
  • Depends on what you're wanting to track really. Endomondo and Runkeeper are great for runners (non-treadmill). Cardiotrainer works well for treadmill runs (has a pedometer feature) as well as other activities, but lacks some of the mapping features that the previous two have. I use MFP as a food diary and Cardiotrainer to…
  • Yeah I'm scared to even look at that game. LOL Summer is around the corner and the last thing I need to do is be locked inside!
  • I just cancelled my subscription. Hadn't logged in over a month. Love the game, but it was taking too much time away from other things. I played in Gorefiend (alliance) with the guild Relentless....
