I'm a complete beginner, and it has been just wonderful for me. I'm six months in and am stronger than I've ever been -- and I'm 50. I see where the shoulder issues could arise if one did not stop when one's shoulder began to hurt. Also, I do not race the clock and compromise my form during the daily workouts. I see others…

Well, either you make time for it or you don't. I realize that doesn't sound very friendly or nice, but it's true. If you want to work out, you have to make time for it and do it. So, you give something up.

If you don't eat them back, you are probably going to feel miserable.

I'm very afraid of Murph. I'll try anything, but we'll see how it goes. :)

Find a new gym if the coaches are not supportive of you protecting yourself from injury.
-
You look happy and beautiful! I bet you feel great, too. Congratulations!

Everything you do is completely up to you. Your coach will do an introductory class with you before you attend a regular class. And then at every class the coach will suggest modifications for those who need/want them. For example, today I modified the box jumps. The prescribed workout included sets of twenty lateral box…

Bumping this post to encourage any of you who may be considering CrossFit! I've been at it for 6 months and I still love it! I can do so much more than I could when I started. I look forward to it every day I go (4x week). The best part is that it is never boring. The variety is constant and the people are great. Second…

At least you know you went over! That's better than not knowing. Now you can try to improve tomorrow.

I use a fitbit with a heart monitor during my crossfit workouts. That gives me a calorie burn for the workouts. And they really vary a lot!

Yes! Yum! I'm on an avocado toast kick. I often skip the egg and just do half an avocado and some tomato slices with salt and pepper.

Living in a culture where food is everywhere all the time means I have to be careful about what I eat -- everywhere, all the time. Yesterday at work I could have eaten (in addition to my packed lunch) maple bars, cheese and crackers, M&Ms, lots of mini Reeses, and handfuls of pistachios. They were all just there for the…

I would eat one of the donuts in the staff room. Sigh...
-
How do you hit that many on a daily basis? That's around 15 miles of steps per day...
-
Yes! We go to a few places where I have to sort of perch on the edge of the booth seat to be close enough to the table to eat. If I sit back, or even sit normally, the table is just way out there. I'll drop all my salad in my lap!

Good advice! I hear people saying they don't want to go because they can't do what the long-timers can do. No one expects you to perform like someone who has been at it for years! And really, everyone is completely involved in their own workout and paying no attention to what others are doing.

I've commuted 3600 miles on my bike in the last 16 months. Most days I really enjoy it. My advice is to invest in comfortable, good quality clothing so you can bike in (almost) any weather (I don't ride in snow or ice). It really is miserable biking in the cold/rain with lousy gear. But with good gear, you can usually…

I hope it went well! My best advice would be to be open to try new things. And be patient to learn the movements first before you start to really push yourself.
-
It is entirely up to you how intense your workouts are. All of the movements can be modified according to ability. For example, yesterday part of the workout was supposed to be something called a bar muscle up. Well, I couldn't do one of those to save my life, so instead, the coach had me do ring rows -- a beginner version…

This is inspiring! Good for you! It does feel so good to be getting stronger, doesn't it?

Do newbies like me do the Open? I'll try anything, but it just sounds intimidating.

Good to hear the snatches might get better. Ugh. I just felt so uncoordinated while doing them. I like split jerks (I think that's what they're called?) and the overhead press things much better. Those are both really fun. And I like working on my deadlifts. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I'd love…

I need some callouses! I've improved a LOT at hanging from the bar (I can do 30+ seconds now -- up from ZERO), but my hands just hurt while doing it. I seem to have the strength in my upper body now, but not whatever my hands need to do much more. My goal for the year is to do one (just one!) strict pull-up. I have until…

I feel that way, too! I would hate to go back to running, or random cardio, or fitness videos. This is just so much better!

I just started reading about the Zone Diet. I don't need to lose any weight, but the 'zone' idea looks like a good way to think about balancing meals for nutrition. And I do enjoy CrossFit so much! Even after today's 100 burpee workout, I was so glad I had gone to do it. I expect to be scaling my workouts for quite some…
