I find that the biggest issues with digital scales is that they need to be used on a flat level surface. Bathroom tiles can throw them off a little. Also make sure what ever one you end up getting can be calibrated by the user.

I have issues with pineapple as well. I get around it by cooking it on an electric griddle.
