I was taught that fewer reps with higher weight helps to build muscle mass. More reps with a lighter weight (often done at a faster pace as well) helps to tone and lose weight.

I am just over 5 feet tall, and I am with you! It has always killed me that I can say that I want to lose a few pounds and people act as though the tiny amount I mention is insignificant. On my frame, 5 pounds is a pants size. That's a big issue when some of my friends are closer to 6 feet tall. To make matters worse, I…

How tall are you? I'm just over 5 feet tall and I wear a size 6 or an 8, but I DON'T look really skinny. Naturally, your BMI is what you want to have in a healthy range.

I have a 32 oz. Camelback water bottle that I drink from. I know if I finish it twice then I have consumed my MINIMUM of water for the day. I keep it with me everywhere I go, so it's a lot of general sipping.

My husband fell for one of their ads. He ordered the "free" product, fully intending to get his money back if he didn't see results. Naturally, he forgot to cancel the next shipment (they claim that the initial stuff they send you will only work for the first month and that every month after that you MUST change to a…

One of my favorite snacks is a couple of tablespoons of hummus with cucumber slices. OR...since summer is coming, LARGELY diced tomatoes, cucumber slices, and red wine vinegar...TOO good and very low cal.

One thing that helped me was to cut out lighter green leafy veggies. The darker green, the better for you. I found, for instance, that any time I ate iceburg lettuce I would bloat. Also, make sure you are eating multi-grain or whole wheat. White, processed flours, sugars, and potatoes are also huge causers of bloat.

It can be a little time-consuming, but create a menu each week around the foods that are on sale at your favorite grocery store. I try to use each ingredient twice each week since it's on sale--and then I have a bit of variety. Also, avoid buying prepackaged foods. Most of those aren't really good for you anyhow (calorie…

The base of 1200 is what MFP gave me with a goal of .5 pounds lost per week. I am just over 5 feet tall. Also, with a fractured hip (that is going to be replaced in a month), I entered my daily exercise as very little on my initial profile. There are days when I am quite mobile, and some days when I am confined to a…

I'm just over 5 feet tall, and I have what might be described as a small frame (very tiny wrists, etc.). My mom was my height and weighed just over 100 pounds. I always thought that was way too small.

I added you. Our goals are similar...though I am a bit shorter than you are. I've loved the support I've gotten here, and I hope you get some great inspiration as well!

I drink sparkling water every day. It's not the only water I drink, but since I gave up sodas (including diet) when I started trying to lose weight, it satisfies my desire for something bubbly. I usually drink plain sparkling water, but from everything I have read, the nurtritional value is exactly the same as water.…

As far as I can tell, they have been submitted by users, and every user is different. I stopped using the calorie amounts on the site because they seemed really low to me, so I invested in a REALLY good pedometer (wasn't too expensive--maybe $25). I had to program it with my weight, height, and my own specific stride…

I am only 41 and I am already having to replace my hip (it's pure degeneration, but extra weight isn't helping the daily pain). I want DESPERATELY to be more active and to have the body that I know is inside there somewhere. 10 years of being sedentary because of my pain has made weight loss nearly impossible. So...when my…

Stationary bike is out because I literally cannot bend my left leg at the hip. Swimming would be great, but I don't have a pool available to me until after Memorial Day. However, I am going to try the Jillian Michaels--modified to work for me right now. I've had some good days lately and have been able to burn quite a few…
