Please do this in April. I just got a vivofit and it might help push me to run/walk more!

As a plank addict, absolutely yes I'm in! Thanks for suggesting it. I have to keep the PlankPolice off my back on Twitter anyway!

Wow! Is this a "Roarin' Forties" party or what?!? Sweet! I'm a happy-go-running 45er from Nebraska and I login daily. Any of you feel free to add me. Always fun to connect with people in your age group struggling with similar issues. Are any of you 40s insomniacs like me?

Save yourself a lot of $ and buy some SunWarrior vegan protein powder @ Amazon or Hy-Vee. I love the chocolate vegan SunWarrior blend.

Love running in the rain as long as it's not a full downpour. Like today's misty morning. :)

Running my first 50K in October-Market-to-Market- in Lincoln, NE. Surely I'll race some shorter ones before that but haven't found those races yet. Trying to break out of pattern of running the same races in the same places every year. Good luck to y'all in your races!

Jeff Galloway's marathon training plan has worked very well for me. See JeffGalloway.com for details. He's also on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Otherwise, I've tried kind of an ad hoc "full throttle" marathon plan but that has caused burnout/injury. Jeff has two editions of a running book that I have read, plus a marathon…

Yes, I'm addicted to running. Running is AWESOME for your whole body! Get it right people!

I'm Catholic and am giving up technology (unplugging) for at least Will be running "unplugged" a lot more during Lent, too.
-
Howdy Neil, I'll send you a request. I'm "smurf1993" on Garmin Connect if any of you want to add me. -Jeremy

Yes, I'm Catholic and will sacrifice something for Lent but haven't decided what. Need more time to reflect. LENT is coming!

Would strongly recommend Jeff Galloway's running books, he has recommended programs for all length of races, including beginners. I've been running Galloway's system for years (run:walk:run) and it's helped me a lot. Good luck! :glasses:

Do you wear UnderArmour ColdGear for cold weather as the bottom layer? That helps me. The ColdGear traps a little more heat so it doesn't all escape. That plus layering. Also, if you wear a HRM, make sure you're using warm water (instead of cold) when you prepare the HRM. HRM keeps you slightly warmer than running w/o one.

What an amazing effort! The first one is always a doozy for many of us. Once you start passing people late in a marathon and building momentum and confidence, it's difficult to stop-adrenaline & endorphins take over at that point. Those end up being your PR races. There's something about running marathons in Texas that…

I would buy at least 2 rolls of KT tape. Then buy something reflective (maybe wrist blinking bracelet-like those a lot- for running in darkness to round up to 50. ;D

I wear an Adidas HRM paired with my treadmill which works great-even more impressed with Garmin's new HRM with the Forerunner 620 (calculates HR, VO2, cadence, stride length, etc). My old Garmin HRM I got with my 410 never worked so I share your frustration.

Feel free to add me, I'm a runner in Lincoln, NE-not too far away from Bellevue. :D

Try stevia or honey or coconut milk in your coffee, those are my favorites.
-
Coconut Oil is a critical ingredient in my daily kale smoothies (I use about 1/2 tablespoon per smoothie mixed with coconut milk and other ingredients). Also cook with it, even adding it to scrambled eggs. Haven't tried it in oatmeal yet although I will now that someone suggested it-sounds great! ;)

45 & sneaking into the best shape of my life! Feel free to add me! Once you get momentum going with working out and eating right, you just ROLL!:glasses:

Some say breathing in through your nose & out through your mouth helps but that varies by individual and depends on how cold/warm it is. Concentrating on breathing deeper helps-I catch myself short, shallow breathing sometimes when I get tired running. Here's an article by Budd Coates from Runner's World on a 3:2 breathing…

Yaktrax! Can't imagine life without them anymore!

Have you tried planking? If you plank everyday and do other core exercises/workouts, lift weights, it helps. give it a try. Good luck!

Sure, my Runkeeper moniker is: illraceu Would love to have more Runkeeper friends & competition, too. RUN ON friends! :D

Yes & yes. Sorry to hear Dallas was canceled this past weekend.

Born in Omaha, live in Lincoln now. But we go to Omaha so much we almost feel like we live there sometimes! ;)

NOW! (free shipping if you buy through Garmin.com and use the holiday code). I have a Forerunner 410 now and love it (except for the Bezel which is a beast). I've used it for years and the only problems I've had have been the watch being "full" (just have to clear old runs) and the touchy, sensitive bezel. I just bought a…

I don't mind periodic run streaks, seem to help motivate me. I did the Runner's World summer streak and completed it. I'm doing the RW Holiday streak from Thanksgiving to New Years. If I streak too long, I hear about it from my wife and yes, the laundry! Left home today and chuckled at the full laundry basket my wife…

20 degrees is my cutoff. Below 20, I'm on the treadmill unless there's absolutely no wind or I'm not going very far (or running a crazy Turkey Trot race in 10 degree weather like last year). My lungs don't handle the cold air too well with asthma. Over 20 I'm fine. Windchill can adjust the # a bit.

Closing in on 1400 miles this year, should be able to reach 1500 easily. I've been running seriously since 1985 (28 years), got hooked on running with X-country. The running "love affair" became more serious in 1988, when I ran my first marathon. :glasses:
