Hey there, good luck with your 50k training. Have you tried KT Tape for your feet? You can wrap your feet/toes in them? I wrap my feet daily with it. Very helpful. Might want to see if some runners at a running shoe store near you can help customize ideal shoes for you. I love Mizunos personally and those are my favorite…

Please feel free to add me, I've lost 50 pounds mostly through MyFitnessPal but also through a lot of exercise and discipline. I'm an asthmatic ultramarathoner. Happy to help and be supportive in any way.

Keep it up! We all have to start somewhere! As an asthmatic, I can relate to being out of breath. Used to be able to run only 1/4 mile at a time. But now I run marathons/ultras. Persistence & perseverance are the key. Good luck with your running!

Running the full, I've run both the 1/2 & full before. It sure gets quiet (crickets chirping) when the crowd thins out during parts of the second half.

For those of us with cholesterol issues like me, it ain't a FAD THING! B) Coconut oil is great for you in moderation. Add it to all my kale smoothies. <3 Haven't tried it in coffee, prefer coconut milk for that. :D

Add me to the vivofit lover list! Love that it links with my Garmin watch. I've become much more active since having it. My wife has a Fitbit Flex and that works best for her. But not for me. If you google "vivofitting" you will find my review of the Vivofit from my Running Groove Shark blog (www.RunningGrooveShark.com).…

Ran my first 50k in October. Absolutely, run on the course if possible! (I did & it helped a lot.) Make sure you have the right shoes. I switched to trail shoes since it was a trail 50k and it made a big difference. Hydrate, eat light. Enjoy it! Good luck! B)

Finding out I had high cholesterol forced me to make a lot of changes. Added #meatlessMondays and Fridays. Dropped junk food and pop entirely! Lot more exercise, lifting weights, getting serious about improving my life. Then for me it was a matter of upping the ante to run my first ultramarathon (a 50k), runstreaking…

Agree with the previous poster, get your cholesterol checked, it's important. I'm glad I found out I had high cholesterol, had to make some changes. Egg whites are safe options, though. I've had to cut my egg consumption back from unlimited to 2 per serving to be on the safe side.

WOW! You had me at DARK CHOCOLATE! Will have to try this one. However, I might substitute honey for all of the sugar.

I'm 46, I run (runstreak) 7 days a week. Just ran my first 50k, run marathons and shorter races. Also swim, lift, & walk to boost my step count. Also plank a lot. Wow, there's a plank star right above me! ^^^^^^ Also play actively with my daughter and she's a high-energy kid so that helps. Mainly I run for fun but I vary…

Howdy, please feel free to add me, I'm a TCU Horned Frog alum. (Class of '90). Happy to help in any way. I'm an asthmatic marathoner & ultramarathoner. Have lost a lot of weight with support of MFP and MFP pals. GO FROGS GO! B)

Run:Walk:Run will boost your fun and get you there faster than you might think. :D Run with walking breaks! You can do it! Try reading any of Jeff Galloway's running books (probably at your library or at any major bookstore) or try the Galloway running apps for your phone-I think there's one for 5k. Good luck! I'm…

If you love running, tell the world! No secretive running love allowed! I love running and it ain't no secret!

Don't assume that you've already peaked, plenty of runners are peaking in their 40s or beyond. (Phil McCarthy, my ultra friend who won his first 6-day ultra race at age 45 for one.) For me, yes, I'm slowing down but I'm running longer races to compensate for that. Sometimes workouts need to be adjusted by age/physical…

Tapering for 50k, 50k race, then recovery but still run-streaking= 111 miles.

Yes seriously! (Trust me, I'm a lawyer!):glasses:

Sing a lot (sang professionally with Ft. Worth Opera Chorus in college so yes my love for singing is serious!), also play piano & organ, used to play violin for many years. Sorry, haven't learned guitar yet but it's on my bucket list!

add vegan protein powder-100 calories per scoop. Chia, flax, quinoa, coconut oil & kale will help fill you up more. If I have kale with these other ingredients along with frozen fruit, it's very filling for me.
-
Kale smoothie with vegan protein powder. So much better for you and so much cheaper!

Love stories like this, very inspirational. You can do it. Use the power of the Jeff Galloway system described above ^^^^ (run/walk/run), I use it too and it helps me as an asthmatic. Good luck, keep us posted: we all love happy endings. Go get it! :glasses:

I've had to increase healthy fats due to high cholesterol/triglycerides. Try coconut oil, almond milk (dark chocolate), coconut milk, almond butter on a bagel (highly recommended by Meb as his fave pre-run snack!), chia, flax, quinoa, and DARK chocolate (usually I'm adding some combo of the above if my fat macros are off…

Agree that you should aim for 180 or higher cadence, higher than 180 is better. Keep an eye on your stride length when Garmin measures it. You'll notice when you overstride, your cadence data will be worse. When your form is better with shorter strides, your cadence will increase. Cadence drills are helpful, too. (See how…

Would strongly recommend Vivofit over Fitbit. I have a Vivo, my wife has a Fitbit. Seamless integration with Garmin Connect for runners especially is a big deal. Here is my Vivofit review from my blog if it is helpful to you in making your decision. Good luck! http://runninggrooveshark.com/2014/04/28/vivofitting/

I wear a Petzl rechargeable headlamp that has white & red light options (and blinking option). Also, reflective neon Nathan vest, neon reflective wristbands (one of my wristbands blinks), neon (superhero? ) socks. Also have bright neon yellow running jacket. Make sure you get something bright enough that runners can…

I'm a TCU alum and HFP was available so I couldn't resist seizing it before another alum!

Dead Poets Society & Good Morning Vietnam. Can't forget he was also in the original music video to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy!".

Commando with the winter asterisk. Except in winter, my running shorts liner is my underwear. (We were taught this in high school X-country.) In winter, I do wear the UnderArmour compression layer under the running shorts or tights to prevent freezing and cold snow, ice, & icicle encroachment.

I also started with coconut oil to try to control high cholesterol and high triglycerides. I add it to all my smoothies and cook with it. Haven't tried it in coffee but that sounds awesome. Just wrote a blogpost on the benefits of eating coconuts--it's called CUCKOO FOR COCONUTS! Visit www.runninggrooveshark.com…

I have a road ID that shows I have asthma. I should wear it but I forget, I try to at least wear or carry it on my longer runs. I need a new one actually, the reflective strip on the one i have is completely worn off so it's useless... except for the stenciled info on the tag.
