I was a solid size 10 forever. Then I dropped to a 9-9.5. Now the 9.5's are getting to be too big. It was very sad in the beginning because I had so many great shoes....

The point is not to go into your grave "perfectly intact" with little to no wear on your body. That sounds boring as hell. I'd rather go into the next life having worn this body out entirely and knowing I lived every moment and experienced life without fear. Just my two cents.

I did Phase One of South Beach for an easy two months straight (DON'T). I dropped 30 pounds....but I zero energy, zero brain function, and was so freaking skinny fat it was disgusting. So yes, they're probably unaware of their intake (up or down) but you have to imagine that we can't know what their daily burn is either.
