Bananas, man. I make smoothies too. I tend not to be hard on myself if I go over my caloric limits but I've done so because of fruit/veggies. Because health. I figure that if I've gone over calories with fruit or veg it's a good thing. Also:

You know what I forget when logging stuff from restaurants? Extras. Like my sammich toppings for Subway stuff. And the extra pancakes you get with your meal at IHOP. Oops. :/ Sneaky calorieses.
-
Eyeballing it. I've been cooking and baking my whole life and very nearly went down the path of becoming a professional chef. I can easily figure a tbsp, tsp, and the varied cup measures. What flummoxes me is dry weight. I can grok liquid oz, and oz in regards to a serving of meat but dry things like pasta? It just doesn't…

All of these revelations, I have had them! I'm still mid portion-size revelation though. I don't want to accept how tiny an actual portion is. I get hungry just thinking about it. :/ You're welcome! I'm loving this thread a lot, glad everyone else is too!

I've measured out my wine and calorie-wise the half bottle I have when I split one with my boyfriend usually isn't that bad. I tend to be very specific about the varietal though. Some wines are more dense or sweet and therefore more calorie rich.

I will eat veg and water all day just to have my salami. I ADORE SALAMI.

After reading everyone posting about pasta portion sizes being so wee, I decided to break out the measuring yesterday when I made pasta and shrimp with garlic scape pesto for dindins. ...Let's just say I really had shrimp with garlic scape pesto and the pasta was kind of a vague hallucination that was gone before I sat…

Spice calories aren't all that much, but they aren't negligible, especially when you use them in the quantities that I do. 30-16 calories per recipe. Poo. Poo, I say.

Good gods, THIS. I've created "recipes" for a lot of the things that I get from the cafe at work, stuff that I've seen them make so I know the ingredients. Everything else, I have to sweat bullets looking for an equivalent and even when I find one I'm always sure it's incorrect. The stress and frustration totally makes me…

o.o I love toasted pine nuts. Love them. 300 calories for 30g, though!? *Sniffle!*
-
I kind of love this. Long live the snickers!
-
That is madness! O_o

Tonight's zomg moment: Spices and herbs have calories. Craaaaaaaap.
-
Errrm....well 32oz of black coffee (four 8oz cups) is, like, 16 calories. So sorta negligible. Ish. :/
-
I know I do. I'm forever confused about which measure matters when calculating calories, dry or cooked. Same with popcorn.
-
Another revelation: I did not think that unsweetened black coffee had any calories. Guess who was wrong! Yep. Weird thing is that unsweetened straight-up tea doesn't have calories. My theory is the different brewing methods and volatile compounds extracted and stuff. Yep. I'll stick to that.

...I am so not looking forward to strictly measuring my portions. :/

Aside from free beer my employer often gives us free pizza and salad. I too discovered that my two slices weren't all that bad macro/calorie-wise, so I still indulge. I just try to eat a huge helping of the free salad first. Filling my belly with veggies before I have something fatty and yummy helps a lot.

THIS. I thought that grazing on what I believed to be healthy food was supposed to be good for my metabolism. WRONG. I was just hoovering calories, salt and starch. Constantly. Hooooovering them up. Now I track my snackies, even though I'm tempted to cheat myself and just pretend they didn't happen. This means fewer…

Grocery store trips. BRILLIANT. Setting Yelp to "grocery stores" so I can find one within reach no matter what.
-
That is so tragic. I can imagine the pie and my tummy rumbles at the idea, but dem calories! EGADS!
-
Yeah, this. I thought that I was eating out, hitting the vending machine and having bourbon/scotch only every once in a while. Then I started tracking and realized that every once in a while was ALL THE DANG TIME. Yeesh. The ways we manage to convince ourselves of things are in themselves fascinating and omnipresent. MFP…

I do! On special occasions or when we're working overtime. Or when deadlines happen and we're crazy busy. Then there are beers. Sometimes pizza, but I resist that nowadays. ...Don't tell me about the ribs. I love ribs! o.o

I've learned that even unbreaded wingies are deep fried most of the time. I LOVE wings. So I bake them at home and make my own saucy concoctions to drench them in. Helps a bit!

Weekends are for vodka and jaeger. Mm.

Dinners out are always madness with the calories and sodium. Salt and sugar and fat make things taste delicious and are comparatively cheap to add. So...they do. And the food is delicious. But yikes, the calories!
-
Yanno what else I'm noticing with surprise? I regularly exceed my vitamin A and vitamin C recommended percentage. As in every day. I suspect my neverending love for fruits and veggies is the culprit, but man, that's weird! Also weird? I never get enough calcium, iron and protein. Like, ever. I need to find delicious foods…

Fruit sugars are totes worth blowing your sugar macro for. Mmhmm.

I have totally done that rounding up thing. Totally. I do it with my monetary budget too, but when I save money, I don't end up hungry!
