  • Girls who can take care of themselves right meaning non-smoker, non druggie, non drinker, fitness oriented, and for me a healthy vegan, are always the most attractive. So if a guy wants you to drink or can't respect your decision to not, I'd say ditch him in heartbeat. Much better guys out there.
  • Eat more whole foods. The closer a diet we can all get to a whole foods plant based diet the better. All the little processed things are nice but are more special occasion food. So just buy more whole foods in bulk is my suggestion, cheaper and healthier. If you really want to still get some of those E2 products, I bet…
  • Don't be afraid of carbohydrates. They are your friend and are what EVERY cell in your body runs off of and needs for proper function, and that's also why our taste buds crave and desire sugar. And when I say carbohydrates, I'm talking about ones from whole foods like potatoes, rice, grains and other starches as well as…
  • Why don't you put that anger to doing some research and be constructive.
  • A blogger debunked scientific and peer reviewed research. Don't be so gullible. Go do real research on something and understand it before pulling a website out of a hat of someone who has no credentials and is claiming to disprove a scientific study. Please for your own sake.
  • Vegan and studying to become an MD too thanks :) But have you honestly read anything related to nutrition outside of your current beliefs or opinions on the matter? If you want some recommendations, I'd be happy to supply them to an intellectual who would appreciate them.
  • Well then we should be walking around in a society of body builders then huh? I mean everyone is consuming 15+% of protein in America. You get muscles from lifting heavy things. Not by consuming egregious amounts of protein. Look at gorillas. They eat mostly greens and fruits with some bugs and they could outlift any of…
  • Lulz, a blogger debunked scientific studies and peer reviewed research. *Slow clap* If you want to believe your bro science, go for it. When you want to do real research, go read some books and scientific journals before picking the top search result off of google :)
  • Sure. Go read "The China Study" which is a that study examined more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys from 6,500 adults in more than 2,500 counties across China and Taiwan, and conclusively demonstrates the link between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. It goes into what the optimal…
  • Why do you think you need to each so much protein? Excess protein (especially and almost exclusively protein from animal sources) causes liver damage among other things. Optimum range is 5-12%, 15% if you really think you need it even for someone looking to put on muslce. At the end of the day, if you want more muscle, go…
  • I am 20 :P Have somewhere around 30lbs. to lose, about a 1/4 of the way there. Feel free to add me and let's do this!
  • If you have the body of a small child 1200 is enough. 1200 is not enough unless you want to become a practicing anorexic or end up binging later. Been there, done that, don't advise anyone follow such an extreme caloric deficit.
  • Spaghetti and marinara sauce (get bulk quantities) Rice and beans/no fat refried beans (no oil or disgusting lard) Those are 2 really good tasty and healthy meals I can think of that I stand by and use a lot.
  • "When you make things fun, you take care of motivation."
  • That being said it is still pure fat. There is no logical reason to consume it unless you just want to throw away calories. It's devoid of any micronutrients and is 100% fat (I checked just to make sure it wasn't different than the oil).
  • As lotion for hands and body (not face!). That's about it. Wouldn't recommend eating it or any other refined oils for that matter because they are just 120 empty calories of fat per tbsp.
  • Count them but don't go overboard on eating them and try to eat less calories because of it. Tricking your body by putting a lot of mass inside it without there actually being caloric sufficiency is a crime in my books :P The only things I don't bother too much on tracking are spices and condiments like lemon juice. The…
  • That's awesome! If you want other good recipes, check out some stuff by Dr. McDougall. He has both an excellent scientific basis behind eating in this manner as well as recipes, his latest book was The Starch Solution and I highly recommend that. He has a bunch of free recipes on his site too drmcdougall.com . Happy eating…
  • Don't worry about protein. As long as you are eating sufficient calories, protein is a non issue. In fact, there is no medical term for protein deficiency. It's a good thing that your carbs are high. Continue aiming for them to be at least 70% if not 80%+ of your calories everyday for optimal health and energy. Humans…
  • Just eat clean whole foods. You don't need specific days to "detox" if you eat clean and healthfully meaning focusing on high carb foods like starches (potatoes, rice, grains etc.) and fruits and vegetables and eliminating refined oils (as much as you possibly can, completely is ideal). Other than that, pump the lymphatic…
  • Yes processed sugar, not what you should be eating. To say it is the cause of obesity however is ludicrous. And to lump fruits and starches like steamed rice and potatoes in that category is laughable. Look at the Chinese. They eat rice every meal and are some of the skinniest and long lived disease free people in the…
  • http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2013/01/07/CTM_wheatbelly_17_480x360.jpg Picture of the author. Looks like whatever he promotes is bunk if he follows it. Pretty chubby fella. And yeah, wheat doesn't make you fat. Check out the middle east, the bread basket of the world. They are all skinny as heck. If anything, eat more…
  • Go lift heavy things if you want to put on real muscle. More protein really does diddly squat except inflame them because it spikes insulin levels. It won't give you real functional muscle, just the appearance of it. And it's not particularly healthy either (nor is dairy or eggs). I guess if you don't care about your…
  • Food coloring aside, I'm still eagerly awaiting when Subway announces they will introduce the vegan subs everywhere. (For those unfamiliar, last year they tested 3 vegan subs in a few locations for a limited time.) It would be equally good for vegan food and for people that aren't vegan (yet) just looking for a healthier…
  • Just tell her to lay off eggs and dairy and refined oils and focus and high carbohydrate foods like potatoes and other starches. If she keeps the fat low and the carbs high it won't be a problem. If she tries to starve herself eating just low calorie vegetables then she will binge out on the junk. Recommend to her that she…
  • I mean if you want to unnecessarily afflict yourself and eat a higher fat diet it's fine but it's not optimal. Read the scientific literature. Not the recommendations of governments (Australian, American or any for that matter) which have been corrupted by vested interests (meat and dairy industries) to say that more fat…
  • Essentially, 80/10/10, what Dr. Mcdougall recommends, Dr. Barnard's recommendations, etc. They all recommend high fruit/starch consumption with little to zilch of refined oils. So that translates into high carbohydrate low fat vegan.
  • Save it for birthdays and by all means make it vegan :) We need less than 10% on average of our calories from fat and that is easily met consuming just fruits, vegetables, starches like potatoes, rice, quinoa, millet, wheat, etc., legumes, beans, and small amounts of nuts. Anything more leads to health problems long term…
  • I'd skip doing fasting, just messes with metabolism in the end, along with severely restricting calories. Unless it's a religious mandate, don't worry about the how to, just don't participate in it.
  • This looks like a yummy recipe but it is still more of a treat or special occasion food and should be treated as such. Even if it is vegan, it is still junk food and not health promoting. 21g of fat?! Might as well just drink some of the oil :/ Eat some Dates for a much healthier treat. It will satisfy the sweet tooth…
