I'm an instructor so unashamedly biased ... But yes, it's a great cardio workout if you are prepared to work it when you go. I've seen people come and barely break a sweat because all their movements are tiny, the people who go big and practice full range of motion in all the moves walk out looking like they've been dunked…

Began Starting Strength a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Decided I can't be stuffed trying to fight my stocky build anymore with diets and would rather be strong. Feeling much better since making that decision. Still trying to sort out my food so I'm getting good nutrition to support my weight training ...…

We just started lifting together! Following Starting Strength. I've always been more of a cardio queen so it's been good to do something out of my comfort zone. He's the best gym buddy ever. I get so excited on lifting nights, and on the one night I thought we weren't going to be able to go I sulked like there was no…

Here's a link to the full thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TLfKKppElU You're right, going by this the food in the seventies was actually pretty bad. Lots of processed food and alcohol ... But heaps and heaps more exercise. Love this show.

What a shame you aren't working for the health department, or in the pharmaceutical industry. You could save us all so much trouble with your intimate and expert knowledge of viruses and vaccines!

Probably not. I just peeked at her profile and she wants to get in shape to make people jealous (among other things). What a peach :) Though for entertainment's sake, I am kind of hoping we get a few more medical pearls of wisdom from her. This has been a fun read.

Zumba instructor here. You know what I'm going to say as everyone has said it already :) Go forth and shake your thang <3

In the world. Also it comes from South America. We don't have them in Australia. This fact is of great sadness to me :(

Omg, just started level 2 and the difference from level 1 is crazy! Level 1 had me glowing gently, right now I am DRIPPING. I thought it felt like it went a lot faster than level 1 as well. Keep it up guys! I was told my tummy looked smaller last night so I think it's working!

Do we just do our weigh-in here? Goal weight end of September: 120lb 02/09: 126.5 09/09: 126.5 (argh!) Edit: put in kg, changed to lb :)

Good luck, and would you mind if I add you as a friend? Our height and weight is about the same and I would love to see how this works out for you!

I live Down Under so have knocked over Day 2 ... Used 1kg weights yesterday which was a bit easy but still woke up with some soreness today! Went up to 2kg weights for some of the exercises today. Early days, but I'm enjoying it so far. Love the change from strength to cardio to abs ... Really nice to mix everything up!

Fellow ZIN/instructor here and believe it or not, I also need motivation to practice. I get such a high off teaching that practice sessions kind of don't cut it! Seriously, I get so over-excited when I teach that I really go balls to the wall and practice sessions feel extremely tame in comparison. I guess I miss all the…

If there's room for another I'd like to join.

I started today and went barefoot. The way I see it: human beings have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to become the best long distance runners on the planet and workout shoes as we know them were only invented in what, the last few decades? I don't work out barefoot outside because I'm not a fan of cutting my…

Yeah, except an "habilitation" is not a degree. It is "just" an adminstrative title based on a review by a board of peers for becoming a thesis director in a country that already has most professors at tenured positions. A physician does not need a PhD - one with an habilitation in France means that a) they teach b) have…
-
I'm not in the USA, I'm in Australia. In Commonwealth countries a PhD is the highest qualification possible. People can always pursue education after completing a PhD, but that only makes it post doctoral in the sense that it was done after completing their doctorate. It doesn't mean it's a higher level than a PhD. I guess…
-
So, just for clarification, would you say a medical doctor with a PhD has obtained a post-doctoral degree? Does the PhD then get classed as post-doctoral, when it itself is a doctorate? (I'm not being snarky here, genuinely curious!)
-
Ah. See, where I come from (down under), you can only say you have a doctorate when you've done a PhD. When you start talking about post-doctorates, you're talking about fellowships and whatnot. Dentists and doctors and lawyers graduate with Bachelor degrees, so while we might call a doctor a doctor, said doctor doesn't…

I wouldn't do it. I would think the contestants on those shows are under medical supervision, so it would be ensured they get all their nutrients and people could step in if someone wasn't responding well.

I want to know what a post-doctorate degree is. I know you can be a post-doc (ie obtain a position/job once you've completed your doctorate), and of course there is nothing stopping you from going back to study and getting a different degree after doing your PhD. But what's this post-doctorate degree? And here I was…

Count me in! I'm Sophie and I live in Perth, Western Australia. 30 years old, 5'2", 125lb. I'm at a healthy weight but I'm still a lot fluffier than I'd like to be, and while I have pretty good aerobic fitness, I haven't done any strength training in forever! This is exactly the kind of challenge I need. Goals: I'm a bit…

A pound a week is my DREAM! Granted I don't have much to lose, but when you get to this point you have to fight for every single bit. Keep doing what you're doing. A pound a week is a sensible, healthy rate of loss.

I have a mega sweet tooth so I know what it's like, needing to finish a meal with something sweet (and I've spent two years in France, and know how lovely and abundant your desserts are!). I've found the best way of getting that sweet tooth under control (for me at least) is avoiding sugar altogether. I recently did a…

5'2". We're about the same weight and looking to get to the same goal :) Add me if you like!
