Also, what is important is to preserve the food correctly. I would invest is cello wrap and/or containers that close right. It's a part time job almost to cook for yourself or your family, thinking ahead of your leftovers and what you can do with them so that you stay on budget. Freezing is also great for conservation, and…

I would say stevia, but to me, it tastes funny in tea and coffee. You can go for agave syrup (same cal count as sugar but you will use half as much), maple syrup tastes yummy. You could also find 'fructose' at the organic store (brand name 'Vivis'). Like agave syrup, it has the same cal count but again, you will use half…

All I know is that I do not use margarine because the vast majority of them are loaded in hydrogenated oil (that is why they stay firm at room temperature VS vegetable oil which is liquid) and therefore loaded with trans fat. I would say to follow your nutritionist advice, and also pay more attention to remember what they…

I'd like to know how you get your iron. I always have a slight defiency. (Sorry for side tracking here)

Nutrional yeast is not active yeast, it wouldn't make a dough rise and i don't think it can be found in 'normal' foods. You could get the fortified version for a nice fix of B12 vitamin.

With a body like yours, that's a shame. Just sayin'...

Maybe it is time to indeed seek professional advice. The natural supplement/treatment for hair and nails is nutritional yeast, which you can sprinkle on salads or eat in yogurt.

That's a good one ! I liked the comment about them not being the ones shooting you with insulin. I am fortunate enough to have a supportive bf and supporting family. My co workers however will gaze at my change of ways, just because they knew i used to never turn down an after work beer and now i have pledged no alcohol…

I have never been on WW myself but from the friends who have, i gather it is a good 'eye opener' in terms of the extra calorie and the poor nutrition food people eat on a regular basis with the usual good reasons to do it (i'm too busy, i work, the kids etc.) Also, my understanding of the 'points' is that it is a…

Amazing people, amazing journeys, amazing results !

I find myself in the same predicament... Eating when bored, eating when stressed, eating for the sake of eating, eating, eating, eating. With the eating and the boredom, there seems to be only 2 things you can do : A) Not get bored. Or discract yourself with something as soon as the "boredom" creeps in. At work, I…

This is not near as fun as eating a guinea pig or counting sperm, buuuuuuut A good friend of mine is totally "in the zone" right now, so when he logs cardio, it's like "So and so burnt 10 zillions calories biking 10 000 miles at 80 miles an hour" and then his diary is like "egg / egg / tuna / whey / turkey / M&M's / turkey…

Great posts and great people here. I love this place, and it makes me feel better to know that I am not alone in this on-going battle against myself. The worst thing about being overweight used to be the teasings at school, the idea that no one would ever love me, that I couldn't find any clothes that fit. Now, I feel…

I use vanilla soy milk, which sweetens and flavors my coffee. Otherwise, +1 on agave and stevia.

Hello Katecatgal, First off, i'm gonna send you a friend request, because i love cats too and i am confused about the net calories and i've been good for 3 weeks and the scale has barely moved to the left. Lol I have come to believe that while calories, gross or net or whatever, are important, what is paramount is to eat a…

From Dr. Joseph Mercola : 'There is only one oil that is stable enough to withstand the heat of cooking, and that's coconut oil. So, do yourself a favor and ditch all those "healthy oil wannabes," and replace them with a large jar of fresh, organic, heart-supporting coconut oil.'…

At alcoholic anonymous, they say relapse is part of recovery. I think what it means is that a momentary relapse is the perfect occasion to ask yourself why it happened and what you could do in the future to avoid such relapse. It's not easy, i know, but it's worth soul searching a little and put the correct guardrails in…

I would say it is normal as well. I just got back to exercising after a two-year relapse, and i am amazed at how sore i am. It's like they are muscles i never never use ! Yesterday at 'total conditioning' at the gym, even the sole of my feet were sore! I am taking an easy day once every two days. What i mean by that is…

Amen to that! I couldn't agree more! Now as far as subs etc... In my opinion, Subway is probably one of the least 'bad' places you could go to when you haven't had the time to fix your own lunch. I don't know how 'good' their bread is (maybe full os sugars and saturated fats, maybe even trans) but still not a bad choice in…

When it comes to oil and cooking, i'd be worried about which oil is ok to heat and which ones are not. While canola (rapeseed) oil and coconut oil are ok to heat up, grapeseed and olive oil should not be heated. They deteriorate into all kinds of 'nasty oxidized stuff' that's bad for the health. Grapeseed oil is greatin…

I was not expecting such replies. I always read or heard that a balanced day should be a large breakfast, a smaller lunch and a smaller even dinner. Since food sustains your activity level throughout the day/night, your intake should match that level. I have also read that eating carbs at diner is fine, since it is energy…

As with most grains - maybe even all grains - the nutrients are in the shell of the grain. That's why we sould eat grains that still have their bran on. Personnaly, rice is the only food i cannot eat the 'full version' of... I don't like the taste, whereas i love the taste of rice cooker white rice so much! I'd say whole…

Over here (in Europe), i don't fit in anything from the regular stores because i am right above their limit in size. I have to shop in the 'plus size' shops. Come to think of it, even when i am thin they have scarecely anything for me. I'm 5'11 also. I hate sizes !

Maybe start a new ritual of brewing yourself a nice cup of organic herbal tea? ( i know it sounds real grandmotherish but it's good, it takes a while to drink in small sips and it has 0 calories )

Super ! MERCI :-)

These are all very very good pieces of advice. For me, this is what worked once (3 years ago - before I lost my mother and relapsed. I have now decided to get back on track again.) I am not on a diet. I am changing the way I eat and I choose to exercise and do fitness. I strive to eat balanced meals not to be thin but to…

Cheese... And chocolate! If i start eating chocolate, it's over! I have to eat the whole thing. I get totally compulsive because it is soooo guuud ! ;-)

Wow! Thank you everyone! What a warm welcome :-)
