Hey Angie! Good to see you here on the Marathon board.
-
2:04? That's for a half-marathon, yes, not a marathon? Because 2:04 is close to world record time for 26.2 miles :).
-
You have a solid mileage foundation, that's for sure! Good thing you're mixing in speedwork and tempo. What's your marathon in April? I'm doing Big Sur at the end of that month.
-
i agree with the eggs -- you need some protein to make you feel full.
-
I used to eat oatmeal and toast, but I was starving within a couple of hours. So I eat an egg-white and turkey breakfast wrap for breakfast most days now. It keeps me going! The ingredients: 4 Tbs liquid egg whites (33 cals) 1 slice Kraft American fat-free cheese (25 cals) 3 slices of Oscar Meyer deli turkey or ham (30…

I also drink a whey protein shake if I find I'm a bit low on protein, not necessarily after a workout.

Hi, I'm 42, live in Southern California, and using MFP to eat healthier and lose 7-10 pounds. Technically, I'm already at a healthy weight, but to get to "race weight" --- I am racing the Big Sur International Marathon in April -- I want to lose 7-10 pounds. I've always been fairly thin, but as I've gotten older, I found…

I think to really track other folks' progress, you have to "friend" them.
-
I completely agree. New research has shown (New York Times last week) that weighing oneself daily really does help you keep your weight down. It gives you a daily kick in the pants!
-
Yes, I drink whey protein mixed with milk and a few ice cubes after my workouts, as well as a snack in prep for a workout of 1 hr or less. After my long runs of 10 miles or more, I drink Muscle Milk -- TONS of protein.
-
That is SO TRUE.
-
I'm a pianist -- mostly classical and some jazz.
-
Forgot to add that I drink Muscle Milk within 30 minutes of my long runs. After another hour or so, I eat a meal with healthy protein carbs and fats. e.g. seared salmon with teriyaki sauce, basmati rice, and sauteed veggies.
-
I suggest protein and some carbs, especially after endurance training like training runs of 10 miles or longer. Your muscles will thank you if you drink/eat carbs within 90 minutes of a hard workout such as this.
-
I ran 10 miles today. 900 calories.
-
My 10-mile run today was tough -- I don't recommend running with a hangover! ;) But at least I got it done.
-
@ld40: Congrats on the 5K time! @Believe_2012: Re exercise -- having a goal like a race keeps one motivated to keep running/going to the gym.
-
I know, right?! Totally counter intuitive, but I love that it works and I love being able to eat more so I don't bonk in the middle of my training runs!
-
I'm a tad under 5'2 and I'm trying to get to 103-105. I am 110 pounds right now. Very small boned. Yes, I'm at a healthy weight, but I'm trying to get into race shape, which is about 5 pounds less than I weigh now.
-
I agree with everyone here. You need to eat clean and increase calorie intake. Also do try to exercise more -- even walking an extra 15-20 minutes a day in the morning helps! I have increased my calorie intake and have eaten more frequently and healthily to account for my exercise, and I have lost 1.5 lbs in the last week…
-
@scjp926 and @ESMN: To lose more pounds, increase cardio intensity and duration! I'm 5'2" and weigh 110. Trying to get to marathon-race weight (about 5 pounds to go).

SocraticS: Happy (early) Birthday! I love hearing everyone's stories. Keep 'em coming. I did second boot camp session this morning. Lots of free weights, crunches/pushups, and tons of running up and down the stadium stairs in the Rose Bowl. Great workout. I hope I can keep this up!
-
Also, if your husband thinks you're too hardcore, he can do something easier. For example, my husband bicycled next to me while I I did my 6-mile run last night.
-
As you know, you can be thin AND unhealthy. So kudos for you for trying to get him off the couch! Women already live longer than men, so I might say something, like, "Hey, bud, I want you to stick around for awhile" :) I agree that he has to want to do it -- but as an incentive, how about starting slowly and offering a…
-
@hewhoiscd: Do you ever do boot camp? I'm a runner and I found the only way I will get my strength training in is if I do boot camp twice a week. Which I just started again.
-
Hi folks: In my early 40's and trying to get to race weight (running a marathon in the spring). I was never technically overweight, but I know what weight feels right to me -- and that's about 5-7 pounds less than I weigh now (which is 110 pounds). Also trying to eat more healthily so I can maintain energy for my…
-
Lucyhoneychurch -- I love the "Room With a View" reference! Love your story -- what do you to maintain your weight?
-
I've had it for a few weeks and I really like it. My Fitbit is a good reminder to get me moving in the middle of the day, when I'm on my computer at work.
-
You deserve a better guy than this one. Cut your ties. Unfriend him. Block him from texting or calling you. And don't call him. He's a waste of time and energy.
-
Ran 6 miles at 6 a.m. That makes 33 miles so far this month. On another note: My run tracker disappeared, and so did everyone else's! I wonder what's going on.
