Oh and tips: try to have your eggs, butter, etc room-temperature not straight from the refrigerator. And measure very carefully - in a lot of ways baking is more science than art (the art is in the decorating) and it's a lot less forgiving than "regular" cooking. Finally, use a scoop for cookies and loading up cupcake or…

I love to bake - cookies, cakes, pies (with homemade crust), cupcakes, bread, dinner rolls -- you name it! I usually end up making a batch of cookies for the cookie jar at least once a week - the other goodies I make less often because I don't really eat them and it's just me and my hubby at home now. He's diabetic so he…

What a great tip! Thanks for sharing. Ruth

I do what psulemon does. When I have a meal that I know I'll probably make again in a very similar way, I go into "create a recipe" and enter in every ingredient. I make sure to set the number of servings based on what I call a serving of that thing and there you go! Then it's there the next time and I don't have to enter…

Sorry guys, much as I'd love to believe it's possible to be eating too little, there's tons of research that shows that while, yes, the body will adjust its metabolism to conserve fuel and burn more efficiently, it is not NEARLY a big enough change to make the kind of difference that would cause you to gain weight if you…

I am lucky (?) in that my family isn't big enough and doesn't live close enough to get together for potlucks. My friends also actually tend to eat pretty healthy when we get together so I don't have a lot of experience with your issue. Sorry!

I guess it depends on the social situation. Is this a work thing? A church thing? A close friends or family thing? That makes a difference in how I'd handle it. If it's work or something similar, just eat what you want and if they nag at you - say you're really here to enjoy the company more than the food. If you don't…

Welcome! I just sent you a friend request :) Ruth

I LOVED it! I've watched Dr. Who for ages - "my" Doctor for the longest time was Tom Baker and I was completely unspoiled about the special so you can imagine my reaction to seeing him at the end. I got a little teary. From the reboot Tennant is "my" Doctor so I was delighted he was there and thought the interplay between…

Hi Ann! Welcome. Feel free to add me if you like. Ruth

!!! 8 PLACES !!! wow. That's .... scary bad. I only broke mine in 3 and it's been pretty tough to recover from. Still no high heels for me, and I can't even walk comfortably barefoot at the moment. Sigh. Ruth

I broke mine in January. I'm still not quite to the point where going downstairs is "normal" though I don't have to do the one-step-at-a-time thing on them any more. Wearing heels or running is just a fantasy at this point :) Ruth

Welcome alithekiwi ! Love the name. Feel free to add me. I hope to someday visit NZ - my daughter spent a year in Christchurch at school and just loved it. Ruth

Love your attitude! Good for you.

I wish I knew how to answer your question. I have a similar one about how to deal with marinades...I guess the only thing to do is weigh the batter bowl before and after and figure out how much you actually used?

Welcome! Feel free to add me if you like. I'm 52 and sit at a desk all day, so I relate to your struggle to fit exercise in. Ruth

Welcome! Glad to have you join us and feel free to add me. Ruth

Welcome to the group! This is a great group of ladies. Feel free to add me! Ruth

I've been looking for that too! I'm sure there are others out there, but at the moment I'm thinking the Polar FT4 might be the solution. It counts calories burned and comes with a strap that can transmit in the water.

Congratulations! Sounds like we're very simliar, except I'm not at my goal yet. I'm 5'5" and probably hit the low 180s in recent memory. I was too ashamed to actually step on the scales though so I was less by the time I actually started tracking it. I didn't start until July so I'm getting there, but I'm a bit behind you.…

So beautiful! I love hiking especially in the fall and spring.

Mine's pretty obvious, but I'm Ruth

Strange - my husband is the exact same way! Generally pretty quiet, unless I'm trying to read or maybe do something that takes concentration on the computer... then he's mr. chatty pants! Ruth

Hi and welcome! I'm not super chatty, but I do log on every day so feel free to add me! I check the boards less often than I just look at my home page. Ruth

Wow where to start...I guess it depends on the season, but some of my favorites are Shiner Ruby Redbird or Yazoo Dos Perros (in the summer) Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale (OMG so good right now!) Lots of the Unibroue beers - I just tried Terrible recently -- SO GOOD, also Trois Pistoles or La Fin Du Monde Straight To Ale…

Hello and welcome! This is a very supportive group of ladies, so I think you've come to the right place. I don't post on this message board so much, but add me as a friend 'cause I mostly just post things through that. Ruth

That's my biggest complaint, too. I've been lucky (so far) that I haven't had to deal too often with hot flashes, but I just don't sleep well anymore! Ruth

2 whole wheat eggo waffles, toasted, and about 1.5 tablespoons of peanut butter. This is warm and yummy and very filling for me. This plus coffee, vitamins, etc comes in at around 330 calories.

Feel free to add me! I log in every day, too. Ruth

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! To me the fun of Zumba is that it doesn't really matter what you do (as long as you don't whack into others in the class), it's music and you're moving and it's fun! It doesn't seem like exercise to me.
